Something next to a small over turned trashcan darted as Harper grew close, only pausing for a moment to turn around and hiss at her before taking off to hide elsewhere. Cat, she sighed for a brief moment, since the day zero she hadn’t really thought about what had happened to animals. There was some relief that they were not like some of the zombie movies where even they turned into zombies attacking and eating flesh.
Creeping still along Harper paused pressing her back against the hallway wall, peeking round the corner she watched as her eyes widen with fear. The black shadow shifted and move, the inkling of its head searching for something as Harper pressed herself flatter against the wall. Moving even slower than before she crept back down the hallway noting to mark that route as unsafe. For the time being she would do her best to avoid any other noise, there could be even more of them in the building and running the risk of meeting them was not on her list of wants.
Backtracking Harper returned to the first fork she had come across in the building and took the opposite direction from where she had seen the undying. Her head throbbed with pain as her focus faded in an out at times, but not having to run or fight made the mission easier to deal with the blood loss. She passed by a room, something that must have been one of the IT departments considering the few piles of computers scattered about with other various electronics. Something low to the ground shifted around on the floor almost like water, but when Harper grew closer she realized it was rats eating something. Taking a few steps back she returned to the hallway not wishing to explore what the rats had found or what else could possibly be in the room.
Further down the hallway was a smaller room that without the door would have almost seemed like an adjacent cubbyhole versus a full room. The door was gone, ripped from its hinges at some point as papers were scattered across the floor. Somewhere blank pulled from their shelves above the copier while others were filled with colored images. Crouching down Harper picked up a few that had something last copied on it, the first few where blurry with only hints of figure parts such as fingertips and arms. A few more showed the look of terror on someone’s face while a gleam of a bloodied knife was held across where the copied took the image. Staring at the room for a moment Harper dropped the rest of the pages and stood up before backing away, a feeling of sickness settled in under the dizziness.
There wasn’t anything else to explore in the office, as Harper headed back silently to the Harbringer’s base. She reported finding the undying as well as the various creatures such as rats feasting and a stray cat but made no mention of the pages she had found from the copier.
