James moseyed on over to the health department slowly. He was still trying to recover from whatever he'd done to his ribs, and a first aid lesson sounded like just the trick. The health department was fortunately not a difficult walk, and he made it there only slightly winded.
He entered the doors and nearly got bifurcated by a metal table. "HEY!" he cried, dodging at the last second. "Be careful with that -" he glanced at the surface, and fell silent, mesmerized by all the awfully dangerous looking implements carefully laid out on a cloth.
He carefully stepped around it, and into the main area. There were beds against the walls, and a curtained off area in the center that he assumed were for the more seriously wounded.
There was also a height and weight scale, but he chose to ignore those. He didn't imagine potatos and chips had been good for his figure.
He decided to eye the surgical instruments again, careful not to touch. They looked mildly horrifying, and it was sort of macabre fun to try and guess at what they were for.

One of the beds on the wall featured a plastic mannequin, whose bed was equipped with a small tray of 'supplies' that consisted of clean socks, shears, and alligator clips. James was steered to this station by another attending university member, and then mostly left to fend for his own devices.
He cut one sock into strips, merrily braiding them together. After a few determined minutes, he had made a lovely wreath, which he draped around the mannequin's head.
"You're supposed to be making bandages," someone commented, but there were also a few appreciative snickers.
Obligingly, he cut larger strips this time, and wrapped one of it's hands clumsily, securing it with the clips. He stepped back to admire his handiwork. Not bad, if you were blind, had two broken arms and were a quadriplegic for good measure. He sincerely hoped no one would really need him to ply this trade in the field.

After that lackluster showing, someone gently led him to another table in a corner, whose main adornment was a can of peaches and a paring knife.
Food prep. This was something he was more comfortable with, and he happily squared the peaches, whistling and remembering happier times. It was almost like the old days, plating snacks for the preschoolers. Well, except they used organic fruit, and it was never canned, always fresh.
He almost felt like singing - but he was terribly tone deaf, and wouldn't want any of the good people of the infirmary missing a stitch on account of a sour note.
