Fresh from her and Greta's bout with that undying, Monica returned to the base. Of course, it wasn't for relaxation: she had work to do. Like always, she thought glumly.
But hey - there might be a promotion in this for her. Well...another promotion, anyway. She scooped up a bag and headed out. She hadn't seen Cory in a while...but maybe that just meant he was staying safe in his room. A likely story.
She strolled out onto the streets a little more confident of her abilities. Was that a computer store? She entered it with interest. If they could connect a computer to the internet in the prison, where they had electricity...
Wait, no. Everything here was broken. And there was no water to speak of. She needed to go some place else.

She hopped into a different store next. It'd been missing its title, although she could make out the letters "CO" on the sign outside. That wasn't very helpful - most stores were companies, right?
She had to squeal when she saw what'd been left inside. Tons of pictures of puppies! This was Monica's kind of store. But that probably meant it'd been a pet store. Which meant that she was out of luck when it came to a search for water. On her way out, though, she was lucky enough to spot a sign.

That...sounded pretentious. But it also sounded like there was water in the store, that someone less observant would've overlooked. Monica dashed over to behind the counter and lo and behold - two big bottles of Evian. Victory.

In the next building Monica just saw a bunch of empty chairs at empty tables. Oh - it was a restaurant. Or...it had been a restaurant. Monica shrugged. Time to loot the stock, wherever it was?
Someone else had had the same idea, though. There was only a lone bottle in there. Better than nothing, she supposed. Water: 3 water HP: 36/50

It was probably the stupid injury, making her dizzy. She'd already been through this computer store, and she'd already realized there was nothing there for her.

It was then that Monica saw it again: the wholesale food store! Yessss. She pushed the large garage-type door up and dashed inside. Ugh - it was really dark in here. But if she remembered right, the water bottles were...there. That was five for Team Prison. Go Monica, go, she thought to herself. Hey, it was hard to not be impressed at her own abilities!

But she only needed two more bottles of water and then she could be out of here, on her way back to the prison. (She didn't - couldn't - notice the infected following her like a dog that wanted a bone. Except in this case the bone was her water.)
The next store she ducked into was a strangely familiar petstore - but it was also very clearly not the same building as the previous one. The next in a chain, perhaps? Monica didn't know. Well, who cared? They kept there water in different places but there was undoubtedly still water, and it was all Monica's now.
Time to hightail it out of there.

There was a loud groan behind her, though, and Monica turned with a shriek. Wait a minute. It was - it was -
Oh no. "Not you again!" she grumped, though it was clearly a different thing than the one from earlier. She kicked uselessly at it. "I've faced scarier things than you!" she said. It seemed at least a little perturbed by the thought, but it was hard to tell. Could these things even think any more?

Why was kicking so ineffective? Monica wondered. She looked down at the bag of bottles in her hands, shrugged, and swung it wildly at the infected. Maybe this would hurt it some!
With a loud smack, her bag of bottles hit the infected's side. Score! It looked pretty dazed, but Monica didn't bother chasing it down. After all, she wasn't the one with the knife skills. It was time for her to just head out of here.

And that she did, running as quickly as she could on her way back. Unfortunately the bag had split open a bit when it'd smacked the thing in the face, but hey. She'd noticed the hole and gathered the bottles up more securely.
...five bottles was still better than nothing, right?
