gaia_crown [ OBJECTIVE 3: ]

- Try to make communications with the outside world
OOC: Try to make communications with the outside world. There is a RADIO CONTROL station set up. Unfortunately, masses of the infected wander around it. You need to sneak around the masses undetected to try to get to the top of the radio tower to work it.

[ Step 1 ] Radio tower detection is determined by how much your character is carrying.

A player character NOTHING in their (minis) inventory rolls 1d4. A victory is a 1-3

A player carrying 1 item in their minis inventory rolls 1d6. A victory is a 1-4

A player carrying 2 items in their minis inventory rolls 1d10. A victory is a 1-5

If you roll a FAIL, the mobs of infected notice you, and begin to chase you. GAME OVER (this task is a FAIL). Otherwise, continue forward.

[ Step 2 ]

You reach the top of the radio tower. Now, you see why this is an issue. At the top of the stairs is a room, and it is filled with hundreds of different communications lines. You would have to try each one to see if it works. It would take hours, days, if not months.

Roll 1d100. Match your dice roll to the result below an RP it out. You may keep on rolling until you are satisfied with your result, and then you may leave at any point.

1- 20: You get static on your line. It didn't work.

21 - 40: You get what sounds like someone talking on the line but it is difficult to make out.

41 - 60: You hear something. Someone shouting "Hello? This is-." It gets cut off.

61 - 80: You hear something. It comes loud and clear. "This is prerecorded emergency broadcast. If you are listening to this, you are in critical danger. Find the nearest shelter immediately and hide until further authorities notify you. Do not attempt to contact local authorities. Do not leave your house. This is not a drill."

81-90: You hear something. "- supplies shipped in daily. We try to do it from the air but we don't have many choppers left. They will dwindle after a while. --- seven days --- then ----" It cuts off.

91-100: You hear something. "-- you don't know me but I'm here to help you. Don't listen to anything they tell you. They have it wrong. -- Listen closely. -- undying are not the problem. The thorns are. They cannot be destroyed. Avoid them -- contagious -- do not touch. -- spread. That's how the virus replicates. -- too late for you. They will not let you leave."

She'd heard there was a radio tower nearby and she was going to check it out. She'd wanted to bring someone with her, but with everyone hurt and trying to help out their own faction people were scattered and there was just no time. She'd do this one on her own and get something somehow, or at least she hoped. There were plenty of infected around, so she needed to be quiet an cautious. She couldn't just run through and expect things to be okay. Her arm hung at her side useless at the moment, but luckily she still had one good one to help her with doors and everything else. It was a close one, but with a little luck and skill she managed to make it through and into the tower without the undying noticing her. Now she just needed to get into the control room to see if anyone answered her. Even if it was just a word, any sort of communication was better than nothing.

At the top of the tower she finally found the controls she needed to access the lines. With how high up she was she could feel herself getting nervous, but she had to calm herself down. This was no time for panicking when this was the least of her worries. She needed to pick a line and try it, hope that someone would answer her and tell her something she wanted to know. Like if people were coming for them or not. She knew it was a slim chance, especially for the ones like her in the prison. The authorities would always save the people less likely to be criminals first and she knew that, but if there was any chance for them she had to know. Nodding in decision, she picked up a line and tried to get an answer.

"Hello? This is Diana Vyn speaking. Is there anyone out there? Anyone at all? Please respond we need help," she called out, hands shaking as she waited. Static fizzed on the other end, the sound a huge disappointment to her. Maybe another line would work! There were so many of them she was sure she could hear something if she just tried another one.

Still nothing! The line was static once more and Diana was getting a bit frantic about it. Come on she needed to focus and not panic. There were more lines, and maybe she just needed to try this one another time. She had to tell herself that and hope that they hadn't abandoned them. She knew that the authorities would rather rescue people they didn't think were criminals, but she had to try again for her own sake. She wanted to know what was going on, and if it took her hours to find out then so be it. She would sit there and figure out line by line which ones worked and which ones didn't. Anything to have a response.

"Please won't somebody answer me."

One more line. She was sure this was the one. Holding her breath for a moment before calling out on the line, she prepared herself for the disappointment she knew was probably coming. It was a hopeless effort and she was tired from trying so many, but maybe this one. Maybe this one would work.

"Hello, this is Diana Vyn. Is somebody out there? Please answer we are in need of help. We're running low on supplies. I don't know how long we'll all last." She waited for a moment, and she thought she heard something but it was soft and distant. Was she just imagining things now and getting her hopes up over nothing. She was about ready to give it all up when she actually did hear something.

"Hello? Hello what do you mean? What thorns? It's not too late for us we will get out of here and survive!" she called back, but the line was dead now and all that greeted her was static. She had to tell the others, had to let them know about these so called thorns. Maybe it would help them out in some way. With that she ran from the radio tower before the undying could find her and catch her.
