Quest #1: Barricade the Entrances
Goal: RP your survivor finding something to help barricade the mall. It can be a table or chairs from one of the many stores, or even one of the stands out in the middle of the mall floor. Have them add it to a barricade. There are barricades that lead directly to the mall, as well as barricades within stores themselves.
Sereva felt her muscles tense up, in fact the entire day her body had become more ridged the longer she sat around. Maybe it was because of the bandits, or maybe it was because of her restless sleeps as she heard the news that they would finally be able to escape from this deteriorating society. She only hopped that the rest of the world didn't become a desolate place. Closing her eyes for a moment the woman would place one of her arms over her face, sitting up against one of the mall walls she began to let her mind wander. She couldn’t sit there any longer, she needed to do something, to become active. Sereva had spent too long sitting on her a** doing nothing and she knew it. With hope so close to her things needed to be done, she needed to kick herself into gear and to put her body to the work she knew she could. With the recent bandits attack it wouldn’t be long before fear grew inside of her, that was the first thing that the young woman wanted to work on.
Having a safe environment was especially important in this time. “Only a few more days” her words escaped her mouth, as if talking to the cool air that surrounded her and nothing more. She had already tried to reach out to the other survivors at the bar, knowing she would have to keep her word and go for a supply run with them. She just didn’t want to think of the pending danger that was not only inside the mall but also outside. Picking herself from off of the wall she attempted to stretch her body. Letting her arms reach above her head as her legs trembled for a moment. It had been quite a while since she had some hard physical labor, excluding when she helped fight the bandits off. She had only been able to do so much as she acclimated to this sort of life style. But now was the time to act.
Creening her head around her eyes skimmed the area around her as she began to walk through the mall corridors. Seeing a large empty area every so often, shops picked clean, and nothing but the sound of her own footsteps and the occasional haunting moan breathing its way through the atmosphere. Her footsteps slowed as she reached the barricade. Looking up she analyzed its integrity, even with it looking pretty good in shape she knew it still always needed to be added on. With the longer the hell hole continued to be corrupted, the more powerful the weather and infected seemed to get. Letting out a heavy breath she then turned back around and started to look for something she could add onto the barricade “I don’t need to deal with anyone finding their way in here if they aren’t invited that’s for sure” she muttered to herself.
Searching for an item was almost all the work in itself, everything seemed to have already been taken, stolen, or destroyed to the point of it not even being useful. But the young woman was determined to be able to help their cause of survival. If she gave up on something as little of this then how would she feel down the road when things got tougher? She wasn’t about to make the mistake of belittling herself even if no one else was there to see it. So Sereva trekked on, continuously looking for anything tangible, until she set herself upon a little rubble pile, it was furniture trash that had been thrown about because no one else thought it would be useful. But her eyes caught onto a long light wooden end table with at least three of the four legs still attached. The only problem was it was cracked down the middle, and any possible movement of it seemed like it would snap. But to Sereva that wouldn’t be a problem, placing her hands on the material she started to pull, planting her feet steadily on the ground in order to get the piece of broken furniture away from the trash pile. It took a bit of work but with a few more movements it was out. She had already started to work up a sweat, and that wasn’t even half of it. The table had splintered and broken just like she expected, but hey as long as there was still two whole working pieces then it would still benefit her right? Wiping off sweat from her brow she then gripped the two pieces, hauling them up while making sure her grip wouldn’t slip from them. It was going to be a workout to get them all the way back to the barricade, but hey at least it was keeping her occupied? Her footsteps were heavied, and sluggish as always when carrying something heavy, but she didn’t stop once to rest. Knowing that it would only make her muscles burn more the longer she decided to stop and stand there just to know she was going to have to walk more.
Working her way back to the barricade she finally was put at ease, seeing the structure her hands immediately gave out from holding the pieces. Letting them be placed on the ground as she rubbed her wrists to get ready to move the material. One last push and it would all be over. She carefully picked the pieces back up and wedged them in the necessary areas, even with splinters poking out it would actually help in defense. At least that is what Sereva told herself. Maybe accomplishing something like this will finally give her the encouragement she needed, and to remind her that even if the city was crumbling, didn’t mean she had to go with it.
