In light of the recent surprise infected mob, Corey has created a new duty for the University Faction: Building Maintenance. The goal of this quest is to patch up holes and create traps in an effort to protect the overall group.

Quest Notes
- This quest can not be completed solo. There must be two or more people in your group.
- Each person must do all the steps and dice rolls. No tag teaming!
- Your group is given a rather heavy bag of equipment. It's clearly all items from the maintenance shed, and includes such items as a hammer, some nails, a screwdriver set, some fishing line, a measuring tape, etc. Building maintenance supplies. These do NOT count as materials, just aids to help you ICly.
- This requires some imagination - after all, there is a very real chance you might be clogging a broken window with a bucket!
- No new people may join an open Building Maintenance Thread once the group moves on to step 2.

Step One - Material Gathering
- Before you can begin the maintenance, you must gather some materials!
- Roll a 5d12 in one post, and match your result to the materials below:
  • 1: You break a couple desks, and now have TWO pieces of wood! (+2 Materials)
  • 2: You find…a bucket? Well, alright. (+1 Material)
  • 3: There are a bunch of backpacks lying around. Three of them. Might as well bring them along. (+3 Materials)
  • 4: You lucky deviant! You found the Janitor's cart. It only has a mop, some cleaning supplies (a bottle of windex, some bleach, and 4 unused garbage bags), and precisely three towels. One of the towels is a grease rag though, at least the other two are clean. (+10 Materials)
  • 5: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+1 Material)
  • 6: You manage to pry down a dry erase board. It's got to be good for something. (+1 Material)
  • 7: You find a projector. Hurray? (+1 Material)
  • 8: WILD CARD - You can find TWO items of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+2 Materials)
  • 9: There are a bunch of bells in a box. Three of them. We're not sure why. But there they are. (+3 Materials)
  • 10: You find a bottle of alka-seltzer near a bottle of coke… (+1 Material)
  • 11: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+1 Material)
  • 12: You find a stack of boring looking books. Three of them. Might as well put them to some use. (+3 Materials)

- Pool your resources. Make a master list of what was found, including how many of them there are. These will be the materials you get to work with as a group!
- Continue on to Step Two.

Step One-Point-Five: Choose post order
- This can be done however you want! You must go in post order for step two.

Step Two - Makeshift Maintenance
- Hurray, you have materials! Now to put them to use.
- Each person in the group rolls a 1d10 in turn, until there are no materials left to use. Pooled materials will be used on a first chosen-first used basis.
- Match your rolls to the problems below, and do your best to fix them using the pooled materials your group rolled earlier! This means you get to be a little creative with how some of the items are used.
- Once a material is used, it can not be used a second time. Once it's used, it's gone!
  • 1: You find a small hole in the wall. (Requires 1 material to fix)
  • 2: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
  • 3: There is a slightly broken window. (Requires 1 material to fix)
  • 4: This window is very broken. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
  • 5: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix)
  • 6: Some of the flooring is compromised, and has a foot-shaped hole in it. (Requires 1 material to fix)
  • 7: There is a large hole in the wall. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
  • 8: This floor is a mess. A whole person could fit down there (Requires 4 materials to fix)
  • 9: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix)
  • 10: One of the vents is open. It's a large vent. Someone could fit through it, unless you fix it. (Requires 2 material to fix)

- If you don't have enough items to finish the last fix - don't worry about it. Really. As long as all your materials are gone, this quest is considered complete!

Course Credits
- If you and your team mates complete this quest - meaning everyone has completed their dice rolls and has written at least 400 words - you all receive FIVE course credits.
- This is all or nothing - meaning all of you have to meet the criteria to get the credits. If one person doesn't finish this quest/word count, nobody gets it!
- Don't forget to link completed quests and earned credits in your journal!

"I'm not sure how much of a handywoman I am," Hitsu admitted aloud. "I hope I don't just make something even more dangerous than it was before I tried to fix it."

She stepped carefully, knowing that there had been word of some of the floors becoming damaged here and there. The last thing she wanted to do was take a step on something covering a hole. She shuffled things around with her feet, mostly papers that for some reason or another were still littered about instead of already being gathered up to burn.

"It's alright, even with a base knowledge of construction there is very little I can to with the things we have to make them completely safe. We just need to do our best is all." He moved around one of the larger holes in the floor that had a bucket stuffed into it and just glancing around it looked like the walls were full of bells. Why bells?

"Yeah definitely be careful of the floor. The Level Harvard and I worked on had more than a few holes. His foot went through one and I nearly became the building material to fix the other." He smiled to let Hitsu know he was joking. "So let's see what we are facing."

"I guess you're right, but ideally we want what we put together to actually work in keeping strangers out. Or at least let us know they're here. I guess them tripping up on a bunch of junk would count." She chuckled a little at that, since with some of the handiwork it was quite likely that someone might hurt themselves even on the repair work. Just hopefully not one of their own.

Hitsu wandered over to one of the windows, which was a bit of a slow process to avoid other obstacles. "This window is broken. Is there anything big enough in here to block it off?" She looked around as well as she asked, settling her attention on some of the desks that hadn't had their wood salvaged for burning or other repairs. "We could use the desktops, maybe?"

Cecil looked to the desks as Hitsu pointed them out. "Yeah, that would probably work." He moved toward them and grabbed hold of one of the desk tops and wrenched it free of the legs. It was sturdy enough, it would probably work. "Here, take this for that window and I will patch this one with..." He looked over the supplies, handing the desktop off to Hitsu. "This I guess."

Pulling the dry erase board free from their pile Cecil moved to station it in one of the other broken windows. It would do at least.

As Cecil pried one of the desks apart, Hitsu went to their equipment bag to fish for a handful of nails and a hammer. "I'm surprised we haven't boarded up all of the windows yet, as it is. Considering that most of them are broken anyway..." Though, that would make it darker, and then it would be even harder for her friend to see.

"I'll use another desk for the next window," she said, balancing the desktop he'd pried off for her to the window and nailing it into place. She handed off the hammer to him after, going to the other desk and trying to pry it apart like he had.

Obviously she wasn't nearly as strong as he was, and resorted to going for a screwdriver to disassemble the piece of furniture as not to deter him from the task he was on at the moment.

The next thing Cecil came across was a vent. It was rather large and open. Before he had covered it with a projector and dry erase board but the stuff that Hitsu had collected gave him an idea. "What do you think about stuffing this in the vent?" He held up the skeleton likely used in anatomy class. "If someone comes crawling through I am sure it would probably make them at least double think about it." It was like his own personal joke and he smiled about it. "I find it quite humerus myself."

It was darker without what light they could get from outside being blocked from getting through, but that was better than someone letting themselves in through a very tempting, unsecured window.

Hitsu looked back to Cecil when he spoke, looking from the life-sized skeleton, to the vent and back again. "Go for it. I'd certainly be deterred, if only because crawling into a corpse would be gross."

And there was a brief pause at Cecil's pun, and she made a face at him. "Oh Lord, not puns." Despite scolding him, she still grinned and was unable to keep from laughing at it. Just reinforcing bad behavior...

She moved away to patch a hole in the wall with a smaller scrap of wood that looked to be left over from a much more thoroughly broken desk.

Cecil grinned at Hitsu's response and lifted the skeleton's hand to wave at her. "Oh come on Hitsu, its going tibia okay." He laughed at himself before tossing the skeleton into the vent and reaching for the bottle to seal up the small hole in the wall with exposed wires. No need for someone to get shocked.

There was a mixture of a laugh and a pained groan that time. "Do we have anything over there that I can seal the hole in your face with?"

Maybe she could put one of the backpacks over his head.

She thought rather seriously about that as she secured a thick chunk of fiberglass over a hole in the floor. Sure, the hole was still visible, but at least they couldn't actually lose a foot into it...

There was a hole in the wall and Cecil looked through the things they had. There was the box of bells. He knew he had seen bells everywhere. Where had the come from? Was it some sort of Christmas display that had gone wrong? Regardless he picked up the box and continued the trend of stuffing bells in the wall.

"Ah come on Hitsu. With an attitude like that I wager your blood type is B negative." He gave the girl a wolfish grin, sure to tuck behind something if she decided to retaliate. Cecil thought himself hilarious but obviously Hitsu didn't share his glorious humor.

Hitsu might have made a sound like she was being physically hurt, because puns were terrible. Even if Cecil was good at them. It was too much.

"Is it too late to shove you in a vent? Do you think you'd fit? You might be able to chase away trespassers too."

The jingling of bells had her looking to see what he was doing, between her own small repairs. "What on earth are you putting bells in the wall for?" He hadn't been the only one, either, from the metallic clinks of bells hitting even more bells. "Can't we... String those up across a doorway or something? Actually use them for something other than filler? I'm absolutely sure that metal makes really bad insulation."

"So cold." He chuckled. "I feel like I would be attracting the best sorts of people." He looked down at the box in his hands and then at the handy work of what he had done to the walls. "I guess that would make more sense but I was keeping with the trend."

But regardless he strung a few bells along the next vent and blocked it with a few books to at least make it a little more difficult to get through.

"Well, let's be honest. You are quite likable, terrible puns aside." Hitsu admitted, smiling fondly. "Seems to be a trend with my family, at least. Some more than others."

Considering she had no bells to follow the 'trend' that was going on, she resorted to stuffing one of the backpacks into the hole she next discovered in the wall. At least it was useful for something?

The mention of her family had Cecil's smile fading. He hadn't given himself a lot of time to dwell on it but when night came around and he was left to his own thoughts it was all he could think about. Neither one of them had heard from her brother, either of them, in over a month and he had asked through the radio the first chance he got if anyone knew of someone with the last name of Vang. It was a desperate attempt but it had come back with nothing. There was still a chance that he was around and no one really knew him but Cecil's hope was running thin and grief was circling the remains like a hungry wolf. He just didn't know if he could tell Hitsu that.

"Like I said..." His voice was a little softer now as he replied her to statement. "The best sorts of people." There was a waver in the way he spoke but he cleared his throat and coughed like he was trying to clear dust from his lungs. Honestly this place was a wreck, there was more than enough dust and dirt to make that plausible.

"We should get this finished up, yeah?" Cecil forced the smile back on his face as he shoved a few books in the new hole he found.
