FOOD PREP

Quote:

If experience has taught us anything, noisy packaging can ruin a perfectly good plan. Since the 'Great Sunchip Bag Fiasco Of Two Weeks Ago' and 'Twinkie Wrappers of Two Days Later', we spend some time to transfer packaging safely. This is where you Freshmen come in.

To complete this task, your character is given a temporary key to the food storage units. All of the food had already been counted and accounted for by the time they get there. Their only two objectives to their time in Food Prep are as follows: Organize by type (i.e. perishable vs non-perishable), and Repackage everything that can/needs to be. Once they are finished, they are to return the key, and their work is once more counted - to ensure they haven't taken more than what they are rationed to take.

To complete this task:
- Roll 4d20 however you'd like. (You can either do 1 post of 4d20, or 4 posts of 1d20)

First Dice: How many pieces of food you organized.
Second Dice: How long it took you to perform the organization. Each number represents one minute.
Third Dice: How many pieces of food you repackaged.
Fourth Dice: How long it took you to repackage the food. Each number represents one minute.

- Example: I roll 4d20. I get 17, 11, 11, 5. I organized 17 pieces of food into perishables/non perishables, and it took me 11 minutes. I then repackaged 11 pieces of those foods, and it took me five minutes.
- You can make excuses as to why the numbers are skewed - in this case, I would say that something happened outside of the kitchen area, and they had to stop me from continuing my work. Or, you know, my character was lazy and the last six pieces sounded like much too much work. If you have excess (example: you organized 5 pieces, but repackaged 20), assume someone else left organized food without repackaging them. More work for you!
- Once you roll your 4d20, and write a post of no less than 500 words, you can consider this quest completed, and may count it towards your rankings.

Obtaining Credits
- Add up your dice, divide it by 4, then divide that answer by 2. This is how many credits you earn.
- Example: I rolled 17, 11, 11, 5. I add them together. 17 + 11 + 11 + 5 = 44. I divide 44 by 4 and get 11. I divide 11 by 2 and get 5.5. Round up, and I managed to get away with 6 course credits.

If you wish to do this in a group:
- You may!
- Each player in that thread must roll 4d20 - after all, they're there to work together, not all do the same work.
- Basically, you can just RP with each other while you play with food.

Quote:

OOC Rules
- Assume the key giving, key returning, and counts are all done off-screen. You can just mention them in RP!
- When it comes to obtaining credits, always round up if there is a decimal point.
- This quest will be considered complete if you roll a 4d20 and write at least 500 words. Because of the ability to win a substantial amount of credits, we will be checking this using this word count tool, so make sure you are getting at least 500 words!

Organizing things was, perhaps, not the best way to utilize Charlotte's fleeting attention span. At some point she had picked up a bag of chips, and continued to walk around the room with it, looking for somewhere to put it but constantly forgetting what she was doing.

After all, there were more important things to be thinking about right now. Like the living dead! They'd been barricading them outside, but had anyone really stopped and talked to them yet? Looked for a cure? Or performed a proper Shinto exorcism of their vengeful spirits? It was cryptozoology 101, people! Communicate, Rehabilitate, Eliminate. The old CRE, part of an even longer acronym, CREEPY. It was kind of a big deal. For shame, University, for shame.

Charlotte continued to wander in wide circles around the room, occasionally pressing the bag of chips toward small openings in the food stocks that it most certainly did not fit or even remotely belong to the categorization of.

It was Caroline's dismal lack of ability in retaining her memory rather than a flighty attention span that set her wandering off throughout the campus, but the results were largely the same. She walked past, through, out of, and through the storage room several times before ever taking note of the fact that someone else was there.

With a thoughtful, momentary pause, she watched several failed attempts at placing the chips in their proper location before finally speaking up.

"Nothing belongs where it used to any more." Her tone was sympathetic, if a bit strange around the edges. "If it's lost, it will have to find a new place."

"Hello, professor," Charlotte responded brightly, if a little delayed. She was trying to hide the chips between two boxes, to no avail. Anything that was pulled out of this mess was essentially orphaned by it, a lost supply to be reshuffled but never the way it once was. Poetic, she supposed.

"I've been trying for almost six minutes, but there's just no place for chips any more." With a resigned sigh, she dropped the chips in front of the pile of canned goods. This was your new home now, chips. Be free. "This will have to do for now."

"Are you looking for something?" Charlotte asked. "Or someone?"

"Or," and she lowered her voice considerably, taking a step toward the assistant, "Are you looking for the answer?"

The greeting was not returned, as Caroline opted instead to watch her select a 'place' for the chips. They stuck out with an impressive obviousness, as one might expect of a bag of chips that had been dropped in front of a stack of cans. This prompted the start of a great internal debate - was this better for the chips, or worse? Had they been doomed to a tragic inevitability?

Her eyes flickered towards Charlotte, faint green glimmers beneath the mess of hair that fell over them.

"I don't need anyone," she scoffed, though it was immediately evident that she was reconsidering this. "Well. I don't right now. Later, maybe. Tonight. I think. Yes. Possibly."

This would have gone on into a near-endless loop of unnecessary specifics, had her last inquiry not been so intriguing. She glanced over her shoulder before leaning in, matching the conspiratorial demeanor.

"Yes. The answer, yes." Then, more suspiciously: "What question are you asking?"

"How to stop it. How to stop her." If Corey was around, this was the time she would have been shot a knowing look, or maybe a glare. Instead, Charlotte could only hint vaguely at the true enemy. The ban on her entry into the chem lab was really putting her behind schedule. It was almost like she was doing it on purpose. "The only question worth asking: how do we stop the so-called 'zombie virus'?"

"All we've done so far is hide, and pretend that there aren't things scratching at our walls every day and night, hoping we will join them. We're waiting for something to change, but we don't change. We just stay here day after day, moving bags of chips around the same room over and over. It's mindless." Charlotte had no abandoned the secretive voice level as her excitement ramped up. She was particularly proud of having noticed the college campus conspiracy. "But that's what they want us to do. They want us to look away from the signs, the writing on the walls. It all points to this - that we are doing exactly what they want us to do."

She finally realized she'd been practically shouting the last few lines, and reduced her tone back to an acceptable near-whisper, folding her arms. "I believe there's another way."

There was a particular 'her' that Caroline was especially interested in stopping, if that thing was granted a technical gender, but she had no intentions of having any sort of a direct hand in doing so. She pursed her lips and considered the viability of a human girl of Charlotte's age and size actually being capable of stopping a terrible creature who was at least slightly older, and it wasn't long before she scrapped the idea entirely.

She was silent as she spoke; not out of patience, or a respectful effort to not interrupt, but from a weighty fog of half-blurred vision and weariness as she listened to the words.

There were too many years behind her that shared such similar descriptions. So much time spent hiding in a single room to escape that thing, the one whose footsteps trapped her in. Waiting and waiting for something to be different, for him to come around and care about her instead of the creature, but the creature had stolen him. They were supposed to do great things together, yet she spent every day wasting away, losing more and more of her mind until he never even looked at her the same.

With this so heavily permeating her thoughts, slyly filling all the holes and gaps, she was hooked for all the wrong reasons.

"Other questions are worth asking," she prefaced her response, now looking a bit distant. "But nothing is worth hiding. Not again, not again. I want freedom. I was doing good. Good, important things, making up for time they kept me in captivity. No more. No. Have you seen the way out? Is that your answer? It's the nines, I think. I always find the nines."
