Freshman Quest: Food Prep If experience has taught us anything, noisy packaging can ruin a perfectly good plan. Since the 'Great Sunchip Bag Fiasco Of Two Weeks Ago' and 'Twinkie Wrappers of Two Days Later', we spend some time to transfer packaging safely. This is where you Freshmen come in.
To complete this task, your character is given a temporary key to the food storage units. All of the food had already been counted and accounted for by the time they get there. Their only two objectives to their time in Food Prep are as follows: Organize by type (i.e. perishable vs non-perishable), and Repackage everything that can/needs to be. Once they are finished, they are to return the key, and their work is once more counted - to ensure they haven't taken more than what they are rationed to take.
To complete this task: - Roll 4d20 however you'd like. (You can either do 1 post of 4d20, or 4 posts of 1d20)
First Dice: How many pieces of food you organized. Second Dice: How long it took you to perform the organization. Each number represents one minute. Third Dice: How many pieces of food you repackaged. Fourth Dice: How long it took you to repackage the food. Each number represents one minute. - Example: I roll 4d20. I get 17, 11, 11, 5. I organized 17 pieces of food into perishables/non perishables, and it took me 11 minutes. I then repackaged 11 pieces of those foods, and it took me five minutes. - You can make excuses as to why the numbers are skewed - in this case, I would say that something happened outside of the kitchen area, and they had to stop me from continuing my work. Or, you know, my character was lazy and the last six pieces sounded like much too much work. If you have excess (example: you organized 5 pieces, but repackaged 20), assume someone else left organized food without repackaging them. More work for you! - Once you roll your 4d20, and write a post of no less than 500 words, you can consider this quest completed, and may count it towards your rankings.
Obtaining Credits - Add up your dice, divide it by 4, then divide that answer by 2. This is how many credits you earn. - Example: I rolled 17, 11, 11, 5. I add them together. 17 + 11 + 11 + 5 = 44. I divide 44 by 4 and get 11. I divide 11 by 2 and get 5.5. Round up, and I managed to get away with 6 course credits.
If you wish to do this in a group: - You may! - Each player in that thread must roll 4d20 - after all, they're there to work together, not all do the same work. - Basically, you can just RP with each other while you play with food.Quote: OOC Rules - Assume the key giving, key returning, and counts are all done off-screen. You can just mention them in RP! - When it comes to obtaining credits, always round up if there is a decimal point. - This quest will be considered complete if you roll a 4d20 and write at least 500 words. Because of the ability to win a substantial amount of credits, we will be checking this using this word count tool, so make sure you are getting at least 500 words!

Food prep was always a little slice of torture, because it seemed like Liam was always hungry. He ate, of course, but their portions were strictly rationed, and the boy wasn't immoral enough to pocket any of the food he found while scavenging, though he was like 90% others did. He hadn't even reached the storage unit with the food locked safely away, and already his stomach was growling at him. And worst, dinner wasn't for another few hours. With a sigh, he slid the key in the lock to let himself inside. then slipped it into his pocket as headed for one of the crates.

Unknowingly to Liam, there was already another presence in the room. Someone who technically shouldn't even be here, but seeing as no one had kicked him out when his time was up, he took it as a sign that they were okay with it and simply lingered. Only to fall asleep shortly after. Which is where he remained; tucked away in a corner on a pile of old sacs filled with what he assumed was now musty potatoes.
It wasn't until he heard the key turn and click in the lock that he opened an eye and spotted the other man letting himself into the room, presumably to work. Which to be honest, didn't really interest him. But seeing as he was awake and now bored, he was at least going to pester the poor man. So without warning he announced his presence with a-- "Liam! What's up?" --from his throne of spuds.
( Apologies for the re-quotes. Spotted some typing errors haha )

Mr. Morris could only do so much at his age. He hadn't done weight lifting as his class wasn't in any way physically focused. He could get by with holding up a board, nailing a plank, and moving thrings around that were a few pounds, but anything more and he was a sweating mess and had to take a break, holding his heart and wishing he had some water.
Pantry organization was a great place for him to be useful and not underfoot.
Walking inside, he noticed the two young men lounging inside, one in a corner and the other at the door.
"Hello Mr. Johnson. Mr. ...Rook." Without access to registration records, he never was able to figure out Rook's last name.

He wasn't proud of the little yelp he let out when Rook popped awake in one of the corners, but he couldn't take it back. Better to pretend it hadn't happened. "Hey, Rook. What are you-" Another arrival and Liam had to step out of the way to let the older gentleman through the door. "Dr. Hubertson." A smile was offered to the older man before Liam shot Rook a look. What had he been doing in here? It was supoosed to be locked up. Hell, it had been locked up. Liam had had to use a key to get in. How how had Rook? He wanted to ask, but not in front of Morris. Maybe they should just get to work instead. Heading to one of th tables, Liam began organizing, but he found himself glancing back to Rook after only 2 pieces, brows furrowed. Maybe he got locked in here?

Liam could pretend all he liked, Rook, unfortunately, had heard it and he wasn't about to let it slide so easily. "Oop! Sorry, didn't mean to startle yah! Though to be fair, you're like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. You seem a little tense, man." He raised a hand in peace. But it was clear from the wide lazy grin, that he wasn't sorry for having startled him. Not at all.
When it was noted that another was present, Mr. Morris got a similar greeting. The only difference being that the elder man already knew Rook was there and therefor there was no element of surprise. Instead, with a bob his head and a light wave of his hand the red head welcomed him with his usual chipper tone, but otherwise didn't move from his corner. "Evening pops!"

The droppy-faced professor looked through thick glasses to the pair, slowy blinked at them both, and waved back.
"I see we are busy in the pantry today." His voice was dry, deep, and nasally as he sighed at them both. "Let's get to it."
Moving past them, the slightest breeze caught the flimsy whisps of his graying hair as he took a few items at arm's reach (going on a stool was far too taxing), and grabbed items down from the shelf to set on the table.
As was his habit, he only grabbed a few items, taking his time to set them on the table, and then he set them in a row. He turned about, looking around before he found a chair further back, and walked over to dust it off, checking the side and pushing on the back to make sure it didn't break. Then he moved it over to the table and set it down. He gave it a few more testing presses of his palm before he sat down.
Safely sitting, he picked up the first item, adjusted his glasses on his nose, licked his lips, and started to read the label for proper packing procedures. After 5 minutes, he set one article to the right under perishable and then picked up again, slowly reading the label in it's entirety and even bothering to pull on a tab that showed "additional information."

Liam should have been focusing on what he was doing, but really, it was kind of hard to pull his attention away from Mr. Hubertson. The man was moving like, well, like a slug. That wasn't to take away from the obvious care with which he was preforming this task, but the speed...surely this wasn't very efficient. Not that Liam was being all that efficient, and Rook wasn't doing much of anything. He gave the other young man a questioning look, brows raised. The chances of Rook being helpful were probably less than the chances of Morris finishing a round dozen items sorted while on the job. That being the case, Liam felt he had to, maybe, compensate a little. So he tuned his attention down to the job at hand. Repackaging. Which was pretty easier. He had over a dozen down after about a minute.

Rook, really wasn't doing anything. He may or may not have dozed off a little again, head propped up against the wall. He would have attempted a conversation, but in all honesty, watching the old professor slowly go about his task reminded him of the dull, long, and tiresome days ( though not that long ago ) of when he was in class and it just was downhill from there.Beejoux Feel free to nudge him awake now or towards the end. I figured I'd give the option in case you both wanted to get through this quickly. O VO Sorry for missing the notification until now, as well sdtgfhn

As if switching to a different mode, Mr. Hubertson moved to a set of 16 packages, all divided, all organized, and set the packaging supplies beside him. Then, eyes distant, he adjusted his glasses on his nose, sniffled once, and organized one by one by one without stopping. It was a fluid motion without consideration, but each with the same level of attention, each seal and fold done to make sure each item was wrapped and sealed in the same manner regardless of size or shape.
He paused ony to look at Rook, who was sleeping against the wall. Going back to what he was doing, he finished and then reached over, picking up a large manual that was sitting on the counter about food safety. He took this book, got off his seat, and then walked beside Rook.
Morris looked at Liam, and on his droopy gowls, a little twitch might have been mistaken as a smile on those glum features. Then Dr. Hubertson dropped the book loudly on the counter beside Rook.
Ahh. It felt good to feel like a professor again.

It was just a little memorizing watching Mr. Hubertson work. He wasn't fast. Nothing he did was fast, but he was very efficient, and he moved in a way that seemed both mechanical and fluid at the same time. Liam found himself caught up watching the way his hands were moving, then twitching back to himself as the older man got to his feet and picked up a Manuel. Brows furrowed, Liam opened his mouth to ask before he saw that faint twitch of a smile, then just shut it again, smiling himself as he watched. And Rook ca''ed him a scared cat. They'd see.

The second the the manual hit the counter, Rook was on his feet; wide eyed and now visibly tense. He hadn't screamed, but there had been a brief yelp of surprise.
"I bet you have been just waiting to do that again, haven't you?" his eyes narrowed in suspicion at the old professor. "Just about gave me a heart attack, you did." He muttered with a smile, picking out a stool across from the the counter and perched there. He wouldn't be falling asleep here again. Hell, he wouldn't be falling asleep anywhere near the elderly man ever again and even made a little personal note about it somewhere in the back of his mind about it.

Morris looked at Rook. "It's not good to sleep during a job. I taught my students that much. It's hazardous." He moved past him, patting his shoulder and moving to the door.
"Get some rest, students. Exhaustion leads to accidents." And with that, the Occupational Health and Safety Professor left them to their work.

Liam just sat back snickering softly under his breath as he watched Morris deliver that sagely advise before taking his leave. When he was gone, and it was just the two younger boys again, he turned a grin towards Rook. "You fell asleep in here and got locked in, didn't you?"
