Description: Malls are big, and there's more than enough room for every Mall Rat to make their home there, and your home can always use improvements! Collect some supplies, find a safe space to sleep through the night, and, well. Make yourself at home away from home.
Goals:
Step 1: MAKE IT HABITABLE. You as a survivor need to find something that will work as a bed, something to store your personal items in, and a way to get some privacy for changing. (No washrooms, because no store in the mall has enough space to dedicate an employee-only bathroom). That and people keep taking your furniture to help reinforce the barricades... Looks like it's time to replace everything again.
Roll 1d10. If even, you succeed. If odd, don't worry! Just roll again till you get even. If you have to roll more than 3 times, consider it done, and you can move on!
Step 2: MAKE IT DEFENSIBLE. Use any loose items you can find to protect the front of the store you've set up in. While most of the mall is safe, there are some shops that aren't, and you've got to prepare for the worst.
Roll 2d4 until they match. If you have to roll more than 3 times, consider it done, and you can move on!
Step 3: MAKE IT DEFENDABLE. With another survivor-- played by a player or one you NPC-- check the strength of your defenses.
Both roll 1d10. The higher roll determines the outcome. If you are NPCing, the first roll is yours, the second roll is the NPC's. If the barricades stay up, you get 1 bonus Arcade Token for completing the quest.
Otherwise repeat Step 2 until your dice matches, then try Step 3 again to make sure it can withstand the "assault."
If you have to roll more than 3 times, consider it done, and you can move on!
Step 3: MAKE IT LIVABLE. There is an IKEA in the mall, and that means you get to raid it for furniture! ...Easier said than done, though.
Find the kind of furniture you want! Feel free to just RP it out and pick what you want! Escape the labyrinth: Roll 2d6 till they match. Find the boxed version you need to put together: Roll 1d20 till you get an even number. Put the furniture together: Roll 1d20 till a 15 or higher.
If you have to roll more than 5 times, consider it done! Congratulations!
First time doing this quest? Please write a minimum of 100 words for 1 Arcade Token.
Repeating? Minimum word count jumps up to 300 in order to claim your 1 Arcade Token.
Feeling wordy? Go above and beyond the bare minimum for additional tokens! These token bonuses do not stack, so you can't write 100 words to claim 1 token, then add 300 words to claim 2 more tokens.
500 words = 2 Arcade Tokens. 600 words = 3 Arcade Tokens. 700 words = 4 Arcade Tokens. 800 words = 5 Arcade Tokens.

Granny Smith walked out from her little store and into the great wide mall. It was almost like going out side. Wide open spaces, she had an arcade just down the hall. Life, for what it was, was relatively good. other than the constant need to forage supplies, she could pretend that nothing was wrong. Hey she even found some stale beer, life was good right? Or at least that was as good as it got with the un-living around.
But she was tired of sleeping in a pile of rags. Today she would get a bed at the least from Ikea. Though of course she got immediately lost.

Ikea was driving her crazy she decided to start somewhere else. Gracie found a couch in wall mart. "Well this will do.... oh hey I can use this pallet mover to get it." Why work? Why work? She also found a decent shelving unit on display. Someone had used it as a Nerf gun hide out but now she could use it for her stuff. She also grabbed bedding and towels for herself. There were a few laying around. Oh that body pillow looked nice. Food was scare, other things were less difficult to find.
Oh hey was that a pumpkin scented candle? That was coming with her too.

Next was defense she supposed. Granny Smith didn't exactly have the required material, though she found a few nice things to go on top of whatever she found. Vases and beads were collect in her cart that she brought along as she "shopped".

She debated the empty cans and then shrugged an threw them in. They would make good noise makers for the barriers later. Those glass bottles would be good in a few key spots. She didn't want to break them... Except over possible intruder's heads. But it never hurt to have more things. She did rinse them out first though because gross. She wouldn't drink the water but the bathrooms could dispose of waste just fine.

Now this was what she was talking about. Good sturdy boxes. heavy sturdy boxes full of pots and pans and the like. The good stuff. She would have liked to take it home with her, but she didn't really need them to cook. The cooking supplies were already out and they weren't exactly agreeable with home cooking wear.
Still it was excited to have something go smoothly as she stacked up the boxes in front of her store, making a nice little area she could see over. Shelves and chairs were lined behind the makeshift wall. Gracie found some shelves to use as a door... on the outside so it pushed in. The infected weren't smart enough to actually you know move things.
She added her vases and decorations on top. if she heard those fall, she was probably in real trouble but it was a good defense box to start with. she might add a layer of maze like wall for protection later. Easy to push out but not to push in.

"Alright hun go ahead and take a whack at it. I mean it, a big whack. I got this sucker up good. it's as strong as the great wall of China. Ok maybe not the great wall of China but, close alright."
She got her neighbor oh Joe something or other to help her out. he took a big swing with his bat and, didn't even dent it. Granny smith gave him a sly grin and crossed her arms in pride. "See, it's good." she was quiet proud of her work. It would keep Joe something out, it should keep the infected out too. hopefully. At least for a while. there was a reason she chose a smaller store and this was it, easier to defend. She was too old to be running anyways.

"Ok I really do want a real bed. I'm getting one." and she went diving into Ikea.
"This one is good, only a twin but easier to move and get in there." she started to cart it away.
"Oh wait that shelf there will do well to give me some privacy. I'll take that one too."
Luckily she found what she wanted close to the front. Plus people had been taking things out, it just made it easier to navigate.

Unloading was a chore. Getting things pass the defense even more of one. She had to take down her make shift gate and nudge a box over to slid the mattress in and then the bed frame. She hid it in the corner, plenty of time to get up and fight things, right?
Besides the couch could be used as both a wall strengthener and a nice sitting zone.

Next was the shelf. Oh she wished Charles was here. Thankfully this was mostly a tool less put together but her cane became a best friend for a while as she got banged some stuff together.
Joe somebody was unhappy. "Sorry Joe, I got to put this together! I don't want you peeping on me when I change."

Finally she got it set up and ready to go. "There nice and cozy." she stuck the shelf as part of her wall along with her earlier one. a nice changing space for now.
"Now to find a few more decorations and we are good to go. You'd better not raid this set Joe!"
