They had been irritable all day. The two wasps had felt the oncoming storm as an uncomfortable vibration and Swarm in turn reacted to their discomfit. They didn’t snap at each other but Brother was quick to chase after any creature that stumbled onto their path, the immense wasp zooming after them with an enraged buzz.

They spent the day searching high and low, marching through the swamp in search of somewhere dry and safe. It was only as the sky closed over with heavy dark clouds that they found the old mangrove hollow, not quite big enough to fit them all comfortably. The wasps clambered in and settled down, squished at the back.

Swarm stood outside, trying to work out how to best shove the ungainly Kimeti body into the space. The wind howled through the treetops and then rain began to fall. This was no light pitter patter but instead a torrent, cold and drenching.

Moonlit Waters had been wandering about the swamp, like wise trying to find some place safe to coop up for this storm that was ruffling her hair and threatening to dump water all over her. She didn't like to be wet when she wasn't washing her self and she did not like the wind making knots out of her hair! She would need to find some nice someone to help her fix it....or find one of her siblings if she could.

A large gust caught her hair and whipped it about violently as she stumbled along, knocking her into an old mangrove tree. She felt the bump knock the wind from her body as she coughed and tried to regain her hooves under her self. Looking up through her crazed hair she thought she saw another kimeti trying to wiggle into a near by tree just as the rain poured down on them and she cried out. "Well damn...." she said as her tangled hair now went limp with water and she tried to stumble forward and find another empty tree like the smart Kin ahead of her.

The wind had other plans though as it blinded her with hair and water and she stumbled into that female Kins tree and cried out as she tried to shake her wet hair from her eyes.

At first she’d tried to make herself fit but within moments she was drenched and since she didn’t have delicate wings to think about, it was easier to simply stand and endure. Thunder crashed and rumbled and Swarm didn’t even notice the other doe until she was right on top of her, blundering right into the mangrove where the wasps were sheltering.

Swarm instantly reacted with aggressive, protective instinct. She moved to shove her shoulder into the other doe, trying to move the drench and half-blinded creature away. She didn’t utter a word, didn’t think to try.

Stumbling back as she was pushed Moonlit looked around as she gave one good shake and her hair finally moved back enough for her to see. "Im sorry." she said over the sound of the storm. "Just looking for my own tr-" she said before a large bright flash lit the sky, striking not far away from them, and then moments later thunder thunder that sounded like it rolled from the clouds right above them and even louder then the other crashes, had Moonlit cowering against the tree.

She was soft hearted and loving and she didn't like most loud noises in general but she had never been so with out shelter in a storm like this before. "I just want my own safe place till it passes....please don't make me be alone..." she said softly, her legs trembling as she looked around, head low and her hair slowly falling back into her face again.

Swarm angled herself until she was blocking the entrance to the mangrove, stubbornly pressed against the opening with legs planted wide as if expecting opposition. What she got instead was a cowering creature that somehow seemed even more drenched than Swarm was.

She stood rigid but emotions rolled beneath the surface; annoyance, surprise and most startling of all, caring. The bedraggled doe looked so needy and plaintive, something inside reacted to it. Swarm gritted her teeth. She was a wasp and a wasp did not need weak emotions. They didn’t need to be soft and caring… and yet, she remembered that Brother and Sister had been with her since she was young. They cared.

"Come," she ordered. There was no shelter to be had here. They would have to seek somewhere else. Her shoulder brushed the other doe again, but this time insistent and reassuring. "This way."

Moonlit trembled as she watched the female through her fall of wet hair and worried that the female would just brush her off or charge her and send her away as she cowered in fear of the storm around them both. She didn't like the idea of having to move out to look for shelter alone in this...But the female surprised her and said to Come with her.

Bobbing her head down and then quickly up she tried to shake some of her unruly and wet hair out of her eyes again to properly follow the female where she was going. It was hard but she kept up, jumping at least a few inches off the ground each time the thunder shook the air and trees around them. She wanted to be safe again and not wet or scared! "Thank you..." she stammered out softly as she tried to make sure she kept her eyes on the female next to her as they looked for some place safe.

Swarm only grunted in response to the thanks, busy choosing the safest route. The ground had quickly become a muddy mess, engulfing their hooves and making travel difficult. When she could, she used the solid mangrove roots, leading her new charge forward to less dangerous terrain.

Kindness isn’t weakness, she had to remind herself, then couldn’t help wonder if First Strike would do the same thing. No, she didn’t believe the striped doe would. That one had a mantis heart. A wasp knew how to care because they had a hive to protect, a queen and many siblings. They became one mind. The mantis remained alone.

"Keep up," she snapped suddenly, unwillingly.

Nodding and hurrying along she kept close to the female and did her best to not lose her as she tried to keep her feet below her. She stumbled and stuck and tripped, at one point she almost fell face first into some mud but just her legs went in, falling to her knees. She whimpered and tried not to start crying, she didn't need to get any more wet then she was, an quickly scrambled to her feet again and caught up with the female ahead of her.

She didn't know what to say to her, she sniffled through the rain on her face, her held back tears and her need to want comfort from someone she didn't know at all. She could only hope that the female wouldn't mind her crying when the found some place dry.

Swarm didn’t help whenever the doe stumbled but she did stop and wait, head turned to watch her with an unreadable expression. The struggle would make her stronger, she had decided. Though when the wind grew so strong it nearly knocked her off her hooves, she shifted her body like a blockade, taking the brunt until it had passed.

"This way," Swarm said, finally spying shelter and leading her up a hill, ending their gruelling walk at a high bank that arched inward, two trees blocking not all but most of the rain. It wasn’t completely dry but it was better than being out in the open.

Moving undercover, Swarm shivered and shook her head, sending water droplets flying.

Doing her best to keep up she followed along and hurried when she could see where they were headed to now. She nodded to the stripped female when she called out to her to follow and as she got into the over hang she sighed softly and shook off as well, doing her best to shake her hair out of her face again.

"Thank you....Its really hard for me to see with all the hair when it rains...and i do not like the loud noises of the thunder..." she said as she looked around and smiled glad to be some place safe and away from most of the storm. She did not know what to call this female though...

"I am sorry for asking for help like i did....My name is Moonlit Waters. Its nice to meet you and im very glad of your help." she said with a smile.

Swarm had already started settling in, sinking down beneath the overhang, side pressed against the earth and legs curled up neatly beneath her. She looked up at the bedraggled doe with no answering smile, just a flat stare. It seemed ridiculous for anyone to be afraid of thunder but here one was.

“It’s fine,” she said finally, uncomfortable with pleasantries and words. A silence followed as she closed her eyes, as if to block out the presence of the other doe. And then she grunted out, “Swarm.” Another silence. Her eyelids pinched together and her mouth set in a grim line. “That’s my name.” Just in case it hadn’t been obvious.

Watching the female lay on the ground she looked about and used a hoof to pile some of the softer leaves around her and into a little bed. She lay down as well and shook her head again cause of her hair. She sighed softly as she watched the female and nodded. "Nice name. I like it. How long do you think this is going to last?" she asked as she looked out to the rain and sighed.

She knew she was kind of a little kid about this stuff, she wasn't the most brave of any one she knew but she did her best with stuff that wasn't loud or boomy or trying to eat her. She flicked her ear and snorted some drops of rain off her nose and yawned as she watched Swarm, a little fascinated by how antisocial the female seemed to be.

Swarm lifted her head a bit and took in a deep breath through her nose, examining the myriad of scents with all the experience her time in the Swamp had given her. “Until daybreak,” she answered. Though with how it was now, you could easily imagine it lasting longer, some instinct told her that once they’d slept through the rapidly oncoming night, it would be over.

She popped her head down on the earth and gave a stiffly order, “Go to sleep.”

Frowning a little she sighed and looked at the falling rain as the female told her it would not let up till morning. She didn't like that she would sleep in wet leaves all night but there was no helping that now. She nodded to the female and lay her head on her legs and watched the falling rain quietly as the other female told her to sleep.

She wanted to, and should do but she just was a little too shook up. She watched the falling drops and sighed. The thunder kept rolling through the sky and she couldn't believe that it was so loud...the flashes and lights were bright. She sighed again and looked about wondering if she could even manage to get to sleep.

It took a while, she didn't know how long for sure, but she soon shut her tired eyes and sighed as she drifted off to sleep in the storm.

Her eyes were closed and her breathing even but Swarm didn’t sleep, not until she heard the other doe finally settle into dreamland. Only then did she let herself relax properly, letting the sound of the rain lull her into a light rest.

It was just before dawn when she woke, the rain still falling but no longer the torrent from earlier. Her tipped her head to the side and regarded Moonlit Waters’ still sleeping form and then stood easily, shaking off leaves and dirt.

Without a backwards glance, she left the doe and returned to the mangrove where Brother and Sister had taken refuge. Pitter patter, pitter patter, went the rain as the two wasps emerged, rising into the air with a drone of their wings. Swarm said nothing, but an expression emerged, almost a smile, as together they turned and left, heading deeper into the swamp.

Tiger_Kisa699
It felt like a natural end point for Swarm! I hope that's okay. 8D
