Duties weren't terribly aggravating, moving around outside in the somewhat fresh air was a nice little change from the monotonous inside the building. Not that she minded that either, Juliette was very capable of sitting around all day and finding something to occupy her time. But before that had been surrounded by so many cats. And now she only had one, one she was still getting acquainted with. So being outside was a nice new change.

And doing security duty was going to be a nice other new change. She was sure she would be able to handle such things, it seemed a simple enough task. And one she would be able to sit during and continue her embroidery while passing the time. Today she was working on piecing together bits of fabric to make Duchess Dirtypaws a new collar. (Of course with the usual small umbrella patches she constantly worked on edging for all the residences).

Ever since the laundry room had been breached, Zelda had become a little obsessed with the building's security. Though she knew that the actual doors to the place weren't the problem, for now this was where she lingered, watching those who manned the entrances with just as much scrutiny as those who sought to enter.

Juliette was here today. Nice woman. They were all nice. She wasn't sure how the old lady would stand up to anyone who might try to force their way in, but Zelda had been surprised before. Maybe Juliette would incapacitate them with a bevy of tiny needles.

"I've seen your patches," she said in lieu of a greeting. "They're cute and they keep morale up." She smiled as she sat on a nearby folding chair. "So thanks for that."

The few guards on duty today had been less than talkative, she had found after trying to start up a conversation or two. Well, silence wouldn't have been all too bad, the older woman was about to resign to until she was greeted by a familiar face. "Oh, hello Commodore," a greeting would come from her end at least. Aa, how their fearless leader reminded her of the beautiful calico that she once had; so in charge and demanding yet sweet (especially if no one else was looking).

"Oh, it is no trouble dear. The least I could do with the few supplies I managed to keep after all that had happened." She smiled as she reached out and pat one of Zelda's knees, "and it keeps these fingers busy between scavengings."

Which someone approaching the door looked to be coming back from. A very familiar someone with their hands full from the looks of it. "Oh, Fluffles?" But he apparently didn't seem to be attempting to bring out his keycard or perhaps it was because his hands were full? juliette spared a glance at Zelda and then shot a look to the guards. Yes, the keycard was a very important step in gaining access to the building - it was why her's had been secured very tightly with a pull cord just in case. But.. Fluffles.

Juliette very casually tipped over her jar of pins, "oh goodness!" She exclaimed as they all scattered, "I'm sorry dears, could you help me gather them up?"

While they were hopefully distracted, she carefully got up from her chair and opened the door.

Commodore. Zelda was unaware as to where Juliette got her nicknames from, she was just glad she hadn't ended up with Mr. Pickle Wickle. It was a bit of a wonder that the woman had lasted this long, but if renaming all of Clearview's residents and sewing kept her alive, then nicknames it would be.

Zelda sat back, raising a hand to wave at the man who approached. She recognized him too, but there were no exceptions when it came to—

"Oh!" She straightened as the tiny waterfall of pins splashed onto the floor. "No problem. I'll just..." Bending over, she and the other guards nearby started gathering the pins, completely unaware that Juliette had let the man inside. Zelda did narrow her eyes at the pair when she was done, but said nothing further about his keycard.

A few pins had managed to roll close to the door, allowing Juliette to pick them up and not blow her cover completely. Being where she was also allowed for a much closer inspection and it seemed one of the guards had managed to clean up his area as well and joined her.

"Umbrella?" She asked the possible Fluffles - she was 97% sure it was him right now, even though he was acting rather oddly. He didn't seem to be saying a word and gestured with one of his arms - hands still being full - but when she craned her neck over she didn't see anything there. (Did he wear one of the patches she had made him? That she had never gone about to check sadly).

"Oh, I'm sorry dear.... I think you're going to have to go back out and find it." She sounded downright sorry for it, but not having the keycard was one thing, while not having the symbol of their faction being another. "I'm sure it hasn't gone too far." Honestly, she would have kindly escorted him outside the door but the guard seemed to have other ideas. His bag was pulled from his hands and he was promptly pushed back out.

"Good luck Fluffles!" She called out before the door was securely closed again.

"I do hope he finds it, but he is always so good at hunting." She shrugged as she returned to her seat and placed the pins she had collected back into the tin. "And thank you very much for helping me with these."

It was times like these when she wondered why they had a security system like this one in place, but it seemed to work all right most of the time. Zelda watched the man... Fluffles... get pushed back outside with a bit of a frown, then turned back to Juliette.

"It's no trouble. Wouldn't want anyone stepping on them." The guards started to settle down again, free to pay less attention than they would have if they were completely alone. "If you don't mind me asking, where do you get our nicknames?"

Juliette's finger went straight into the box of pins and moved about the rearrange them so they were a little more parallel to one another, and a little more orderly. "Oh, there is nothing worse than stepping on a rogue pin," she laughed softly. Yes, clearly in this day and age.

She pulled herself back and gave Zelda one of those grandma looks with a small "oh ~" A hand went to press against the other woman's cheek, "so many of you remind me of my sweet departed cats." Though, she had never found out if they had truly died or were simply lost. One day they were just gone. She hoped for the best.

The sound of a keycard being swiped and cleared was soon heard and the door opened without much trouble. Someone else was returning.

The answer surprised her and she grinned before realizing it might have seemed condescending, even if that wasn't what she'd intended.

"That's a ringing endorsement then," she said, glancing at the new arrival. She'd never met Juliette's cats, nor did she know that they had simply disappeared, so she quickly changed the subject again, hoping she hadn't depressed the woman.

"I was thinking about throwing a party. I mean, we don't have any music or anything, but I'm expecting an interesting shipment that might raise some spirits. You could give out patches." Zelda looked at the person who had entered, waiting for them to produce an umbrella.

Zelda's response wasn't taken in any way offensive, Juliette took it as she saw it. That she completely understood and accepted it, maybe even found it to be a compliment with the comparison to one of her fur babies.

The woman who had entered didn't seem to been an audio prompt for producing her umbrella and relinquished it over to one of the guards for inspection before passing her gaze to the two women seated and conversing. Juliette vaguely recalled her face but was unable to place a name. (Oh goodness, did she socialize mostly with the men? Oh how silly of her).

She turned her attention back to Zelda, her eyes widening, "oh, a party?" Her hands clapped together, "you should ask around to see if anyone is musically inclined," she suggested, "you know those young people take up something or another to express their feelings." A chuckle.

She had to wonder about a shipment though, how long had they gotten one of those? Had they gotten one of those before? "I do hope its those kind of spirits ~"

Spirits? As in alcohol? Zelda chuckled. "It might be." She had a feeling what they would receive would be pretty close to the exact opposite of alcohol, but there was always wishful thinking. She hadn't given up on things yet, including wishing for the occasional beer.

"I will certainly ask about the music though." With all the other oddities they'd found over time, maybe there would be a bunch of acoustic instruments lying around somewhere.

Zelda watched as the woman temporarily gave up her umbrella. This was definitely going smoother that the last one.

It would be wishful thinking for something a little more exciting in this apparent delivery. But basic needs would have also be welcomed of course, it was such a sad time when something as abundant on Earth as water was actually very scarce and in need.

At least instruments could be fashioned if they found willing musicians to play them.

Juliette turned back to the woman attempting entry as her umbrella was handed back. The last step needed was the salute. Which wasn't performed right away. She looked puzzled, Juliette wondered if she was trying to recall this week's or if.... oh goodness, was it another one? (Hm, did the old woman even remember it? ..... hm...) The woman was at least attempting something before she just stopped. The guards took her by the arm and escorted her out. At least she didn't put up a fuss. "I hope she didn't steal everything to get in," that would mean their actual resident was injured or dead.

Maybe she just forgot and would try again?

Maybe she had been too quick to judge their security measures. Zelda watched as the woman was led away, reassured by the fact that she still didn't really recognize her. She too pondered the possibility that the woman had injured one of their own to get her hands on a keycard and umbrella, but she pushed the thought away quickly. If her people didn't group up, even in the daylight, she couldn't guarantee they'd be safe, no matter how much she wanted to.

"I hope so too."

Juliette's fingers went back to work on her small little project. If only she had a d-ring or a parachute clip for this, she realized while she was testing to see the size of it. Maybe she could make it just big enough to slide over it. Well, things to worry about when the edges were done.

"Is the laundry room holding up alright, Commodore?" She asked just as another person was sliding their card to enter the building.

Zelda nodded. "Yes, for now. I hope that some of what comes in the package will help shore that up too. The whole thing was bad news. We've done so much for security around here and the walls are still falling down around us." She tried to remain an optimist, tried to do what she felt was best for this place, and things like that kept happening. Like they weren't meant to have a moment's peace.

She shook her head. "It'll all be fine in the morning." Zelda picked at her umbrella as she watched Juliette work. She had never been very crafty. There had always been too much to do to take up hobbies, but it was nice that the woman was able to find the time. She supposed they had enough peace, all things considered.

"That is good to hear, and I do hope the poor girl that was down there when it happened is alright. I didn't get a chance to check, but a few of the others got to her." Juliette nodded, adding in what she could remember of the incident yesterday. What this mystery package was now got her ever so curious.

"You have done a marvelous job with the building, wouldn't expect anything less of the brave efforts of the Commodore and Mr Pickle Wickles!" And of course she couldn't forget the other occupants, "it is nice that everyone works together."

What would also be nice if people didn't try to break into their compound as well. Just as the first who entered on her shift, this one was sans umbrella. But unlike the first, he attempted to put up a fight. Two of the guards had to handle him while a third went to the door. Juliette stayed where she sat, not even moving a muscle - well, except to wave goodbye. "I wonder if they managed to take the card away from him," she tapped at her chin.
