In light of the recent surprise infected mob, Corey has created a new duty for the University Faction: Building Maintenance. The goal of this quest is to patch up holes and create traps in an effort to protect the overall group.
Quest Notes - This quest can not be completed solo. There must be two or more people in your group. - Each person must do all the steps and dice rolls. No tag teaming! - Your group is given a rather heavy bag of equipment. It's clearly all items from the maintenance shed, and includes such items as a hammer, some nails, a screwdriver set, some fishing line, a measuring tape, etc. Building maintenance supplies. These do NOT count as materials, just aids to help you ICly. - This requires some imagination - after all, there is a very real chance you might be clogging a broken window with a bucket.
[/Step One - Material Gathering - Before you can begin the maintenance, you must gather some materials! - Roll a 5d12 in one post, and match your result to the materials below:
1: You break a couple desks, and now have TWO pieces of wood! 2: You find…a bucket? Well, alright. 3: There are a bunch of backpacks lying around. Three of them. Might as well bring them along. 4: You lucky deviant! You found the Janitor's cart. It only has a mop, some cleaning supplies (a bottle of windex, some bleach, and 4 unused garbage bags), and precisely three towels. One of the towels is a grease rag though, at least the other two are clean. 5: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! 6: You manage to pry down a dry erase board. It's got to be good for something. 7: You find a projector. Hurray? 8: WILD CARD - You can find TWO items of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! 9: There are a bunch of bells in a box. Three of them. We're not sure why. But there they are. 10: You find a bottle of alka-seltzer near a bottle of coke… (This counts as one material) 11: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! 12: You find a stack of boring looking books. Three of them. Might as well put them to some use.
- Pool your resources. Make a master list of what was found, including how many of them there are. These will be the materials you get to work with as a group! - Continue on to Step Two.
Step One-Point-Five: Choose post order - This can be done however you want! You must go in post order for step two.
Step Two - Makeshift Maintenance - Hurray, you have materials! Now to put them to use. - Each person in the group rolls a 1d10 in turn, until there are no materials left to use. Pooled materials will be used on a first chosen-first used basis. - Match your rolls to the problems below, and do your best to fix them using the pooled materials your group rolled earlier! This means you get to be a little creative with how some of the items are used. - Once a material is used, it can not be used a second time. Once it's used, it's gone!
1: You find a small hole in the wall. (Requires 1 material to fix) 2: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 2 materials to fix) 3: There is a slightly broken window. (Requires 1 material to fix) 4: This window is very broken. (Requires 2 materials to fix) 5: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix) 6: Some of the flooring is compromised, and has a foot-shaped hole in it. (Requires 1 material to fix) 7: There is a large hole in the wall. (Requires 2 materials to fix) 8: This floor is a mess. A whole person could fit down there (Requires 4 materials to fix) 9: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix) 10: One of the vents is open. It's a large vent. Someone could fit through it, unless you fix it. (Requires 2 material to fix)
- If you don't have enough items to finish the last fix - don't worry about it. Really. As long as all your materials are gone, this quest is considered complete!
Course Credits - If you and your team mates complete this quest - meaning everyone has completed their dice rolls and has written at least 400 words - you all receive FIVE course credits. - This is all or nothing - meaning all of you have to meet the criteria to get the credits. If one person doesn't finish this quest/word count, nobody gets it! - Don't forget to link completed quests and earned credits in your journal!
7: You find a projector. Hurray? 11: WILD CARD - Leftover meeting minutes from last year's student council meetings, all packed up in one three-ring binder. 4: You lucky deviant! You found the Janitor's cart. It only has a mop, some cleaning supplies (a bottle of windex, some bleach, and 4 unused garbage bags), and precisely three towels. One of the towels is a grease rag though, at least the other two are clean. 5: WILD CARD - Found a stapler with only a third of the staples left. It also seems to jam off and on. 6: You manage to pry down a dry erase board. It's got to be good for something.
So... One Projector, one binder, mop, windex, bleach, 4 garbage bags, three towels (one greasy), brokenish stapler, and dry erase board.
Kelly took a few minutes to lug the maintenance bag to the set location, leaving it there with the leader before running off to find something to build with. It seemed a bit tedious, but considering the fight she was just in she knew it was important to maintain their home. Security was already weak without the holes and cracked windows around the school.
The best place to scavenge were the large halls around campus, although not a lot of options were left thanks the time. Eventually they would need to branch out to other locations, but for now they found some things. As she walked around, Kelly tried to imagine some sort of use for every item she found.
The first things she tripped across was an old projector, that clearly didn't work. It was on a rolling cart that was rusted, and there was a binder underneath. Flipping through it, she realized it was meeting minutes from an old student council meeting - Corey probably knew more about those notes than she ever would.
As she walked out, she found a cart filled with janitor supplies in a locked closet - one nice kick got the door open. It took awhile for her to drag both carts along, but eventually she found a room with an old stapler that had staples, and was able to pull down a hanging dry erase board from the hall.
All in all, a good find, and so she made way back to the group with her items.

Anya, after dropping her large plastic bag off from scavenging, was tired. That run back had taken alot out of a girl on rations and not used to exercise. Though she had found some items of use on her way back, mostly a few desks that had apparently been tossed out windows due tot their placement and the glass shards about the, She'd paused to take apart, taking the nails and wood with her since maybe they would be handy. But her day was not over; one look at the building supplies in her bag and she'd found herself directed towards a group and told to help out... Today was just not her day.... Couldn't she just hide and nap for a bit?
She offered a rather unenthusiastic smile at the small group she'd been directed to.
"Hey, I'm Anya."

Akane followed after Kelly, probably one of the only people she truly trusted in the university compound. They were roommates, if Kelly hadn’t killed her yet well then she didn’t think the girl ever would. So she trusted her a whole lot more than the rest. Their first task of the day was building maintenance, they had to go out and scavenge for some items to use and repair the place or make traps. Akane didn’t excel in any of those, but she could look for stuff and it didn’t mean she couldn’t help out. Every little thing helped out here.
The first item she came upon was a bucket, it was better than nothing so Akane picked it up. IN another room she found not one, not two, but six backpacks. They were children sized so perhaps this part of the building had been used to keep the summer kids items? Akane stuffed the backpacks into each other and dumped it into her bucket. In the next room, in the back corner she found an old school tv tray. The TV was gone but there was a projector in its place. Akane put the bucket on top and began to wheel the thing out of there.
Back at the small group, Akane leaned her TV tray on the side.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Akane.” She spotted Kelly who had also returned with her items and nodded to her.

Dr. Hubertson was an unassuming older professor with little in the way of what some students would call an "engaging" personality. He helped best he could hauling the supplies but greatly relied on the younger, more fit students around him. Years of grading paperwork and walking from his office to his classroom did not prepare him for heavy labor.
As the students worked to find supplies, the shorter man walked carefully, mindful of nails and calling out for everyone to be careful. It wasn't like the school had tetnus shots.
A lot of school supplies had been tossed and thrown about in the wake of the chaos and were left rotting out. Wandering, he found a old desk and pulled off two side panels, mindful of any nails. Tucked under his arm, he walked and picked up three backpacks that little here and there and slung one over his shoulder and out the other two inside, leaving it open to put more inside.
His haul was more like picking the remains of what had been his life. A projector left neglected from spreadsheets and class lessons only depressed him more, and a dry erase board still had a smeared row of equations left. Lastly were the books, all from classes he didn't teach, but textbooks paid but never poured over before a final. It was not heart warming to see them with wrinkled, stained pages.
Returning, he zipped tha bag up and smiled to the students around him. Short and balding, the fifty-something year old adjusted his thick glasses to look at them all. "Hello." He mumbled, his voice deep and mumbled though a nasally tone of voice. You half expected him to call out 'Buller. Buller. Buller. " I'm Dr. Morris Hubertson. I taught Occupational Safety and Health in Braun Building. " The building was further off and he rarely saw it these days.
Glancing to the first girl that walked up, Kelly gave a nod after sensing the girl was a bit worn down. She could relate after hunting down for supplies, and they weren't even done yet! As Akane walked up, Kelly gave a nod back to her roommate.
"I'm Kelly, looks like we will be working together today."
She nodded to the entire group, before eyeing the location before them. Might as well get started, all things considered, and as she stepped in she noticed the floor had a nice, foot-sized hole that needed patching up.
"Better get this over with, yes?"
She asked as she grabbed a piece of the wood and laid it down over the hole, hopefully people would be smart enough to walk light with this patch-up. Who knows, maybe they had something else that would eventually help?

(also having her find the rest of the items she spotted earlier
As she followed the group, Anya spotted a med kit hiding in the closet Kelly had found and broken into. It was empty except for a few items.. but she took it along anyways. Maybe they'd need to patch themselves up if they fell through the floor or hit their thumb while nailing things in.... She nodded at the professor, nice to see some of them are still alive, it also gave her hope her professors hadn't bitten the dust yet. She liked her geology teachers!
"How'd it get so badly damaged?" She muttered as she looked around. "I mean.. not like there's been to much fighting inside right?" The outside of the building she could understand.. but not the inside! Like that vent... why was it open? Infected could use it to get in! She sighed and took a garbage bag and stapled it over it as a quick fix to keep the heat inside from leaving.

“I’m sure there was fighting here at some point.” Akane murmured as she continued down their current hallway. She spotted five large holes, two of which were quite close together. This wasn’t safe at all, especially during the night, someone could trip up and go right down and die down there. Moving back, Akane went and got one of the dry erase boards and covered the two large holes next to each other. She hammered down the board and moved on to the others. One of the other holes wasn’t very deep but quite large; Akane grabbed one of the buckets and turned it over so that flat surface was on top. It fit perfectly into the hole. The last two holes he covered with two pieces of wood. Akane stepped back to look at her work, it looked about right.

"We are constantly being under attack and the campus is large." He breathed out slowly, his tone a character of Eeyore in nature. "It's hard to put up any walls with just the likes of us. Maybe if some of the maintenance personnel stayed or...hadnot gotten infected, we would have had better walls. It's also been a while."
He moved along the wall with them, pausing as he spotted a support beam that pressed against the wall to keep the heavy weight of infected from pushing the wall down. The plyboards weren't that thick, but the beam was becoming unstable and trying to move. Moving, he took a backpack and walked over, loosening it's arm straps and tying the beam to the other beams to keep it stable and in place.
"The windows also are no place for safety" She responded to the professor, seeing a window beginning to crack. Narrowing her eyes, she knew there was no perfect solution, so instead she took one of the garbage bags and tore it down the seam, pressing it into the window pane until it seemed to stick.
"Not much, but maybe it'll keep out prying eyes..."

"Or more engineers..." Anya agreed with Dr. Hubertson. She had no knowledge of building and fixing things and knew that most of the university campus was like her, which was not a good indication for their sruvival if this building got destroyed! Where else would they find the same quasi-safety?
She spotted another open vent and wrinkled her nose... it'd been busted up either by someone entering or leaving through it... Taking one of the backpacks she crawled into it until she found where it narrowed and did her best to set up the packs across the opening to attempt to block it. It wasn't sturdy but maybe the noise someone would make would alert people. Then she crawled out and sneezed, the dust from inside making her eyes itch as well. The second backpack she unzipped and did her best to tear it up so it could cover the opening and keep drafts out.
"None of these repairs will really keep the infected out... slow them down but not really anything else." She muttered as she eyed the haphazard not-really-a-fix.
