Step One - The Key Card Individual #1Each resident has a key card that they must carry on their person at all times. The key card readers are the only things that have a working source of power in the building, and as long as they are active, no one without a card should even be able to get through the glass doors without resorting to violence. Ideally, you should be able to just stand there while they let themselves in. The person approaching produces their key card and passes through the front doors without incident. Move on to Step Two. Probably one of the only daily tasks Lorena didn’t like doing was the security screening. She wanted to let these people in, they needed help! But she also understood that supplies would go down much faster and you never knew what kind of people you were letting in. She understood these principles but she didn’t like them. Someone was coming up now, Lorena motioned them over to her, holding up her hand to stop them.
“Key card?”
They nodded, digging into their pockets and producing the requested card. They put it through the little machine that lets people in and the door opened for them.

Step Two - The Umbrella Individual #1This is a simple umbrella check. Ask to see the resident's equipment. An umbrella is successfully produced for inspection. Examine it. Hold it. Comment on it. Move on to Step Three. Once they’d gone through, Lorena stopped them again.
“I’m going to need to see your equipment.”
Again, they nodded and handed her their umbrella. It was purple with pink polka dots, quite pretty compared to her solid brown one. Everything looked to be in order, though Lorena hadn’t seen this person around before. Granted she couldn’t know everyone in the whole building right?
“All good, just one more thing to verify before I can let you in.”
She’d seen a couple of people fail at the next part, she didn’t know where they got their key cards from or umbrellas, but this was where they usually failed.

Step Three - The Salute Wrote: Individual #1Every Clearview resident must know the Clearview Salute. It changes weekly, so if you have a poor memory, stay inside. In order to make sure the person trying to enter knows the salute, you must take them behind one of several cloth screens and watch them perform it. Upon noticing that entry requires a salute, they scream in terror and run back outside. “If you’ll follow me please.” Turning Lorena lead them to a little section that was covered by a cloth, she held it open until they’d stepped through before stepping in herself.
“I’m going to need you to show me the salute.”
And just like that, the person’s eyes grew large, a scream erupted from their lungs and they dashed out. Dazed, Lorena stepped out just in time to see the person had cleared the locked door and was now running down the street still screaming. There were others in line, no time to dwell on this one person who clearly hadn’t known the required salute.

Lorena took up her post again as she waited for the next person to step through. One individual was refused entry and also ran off. Today looked like it was really hard for a few people, she felt bad for them. Sighing softly, she waited until someone actually was able to step through. An old woman put her key card through and the door popped open. She stepped through smiling as if she’d just won something.
“Over here please.”
Lorena motioned for her to follow her, she didn’t want to crowd the entrance and usually moved people a little to the side once they’d gone through.

The woman nodded, producing the umbrella that she’d hung across her back with a make shift sling. This one was blue with white rolling clouds against it. It painfully reminded her of the beautiful skies they’d once had that were now gone replaced by a bleak greyness.
“That’s a really pretty umbrella.”
The woman muttered a thanks and was about to leave when Lorena stopped her.
“Oh just wait a sec, there’s still one more thing you need to do.”
Lorena was suspicious now, everyone who was from the apartments knew there was a hand shake, could this be someone faking it?

They confidently perform a salute, but it's not the right one. They're going to have to go. Again, Lorena lead the person into the closed room that was closed off with a cloth.
“I need you to do the salute for me.”
The woman paused, looked around sheepishly and began doing a salute. It was not the right one. Sighing softly, Lorena opened the clothed doorway for her.
“I’m sorry, you’re going to need to step back outside for me,” Lorena motioned to some of the others that this lady needed to go back outside. She didn’t struggle as she was lead back out into the street. Someone was stepping up to the door again, Lorena hurried on over woman forgotten for now.

Ideally, you should be able to just stand there while they let themselves in. The person approaching has no key card. They beg you to let them in, but you stand firm. Eventually they give up. (It is up to you how much they fight before they go/are chased away.) This man was waving at her through the window; Lorena shook her head and pointed to the key pad.
“Key card please.”
She had a feeling this one wasn’t someone who lived here; no one just waved at the door and was let in. The man shrugged and waited at the door. Lorena shook her head and pointed to the key pad again. This time the man banged once in the door making Lorena jump back a bit. She shook her head at him. She couldn’t let him in, he was a liability to them all. Lorena turned her back to him and moved away a bit, maybe it was time for a little break.
