She had woken early in the morning, likely out of sleepless anxiety. In a situation like this, who could really blame her. She would work hard to find whatever she could to help barricade the doors. One set of bandits trying to break in was bad enough. But what if that area had been left wide open without anyone knowing and it was only a matter of time before something else managed to creep it's way in.
Grumbling to herself Ritsa moved around the mall in search of anything she could use. It seemed like things had been well removed from most of the safest locations. Understandably. And she had even seen some things that she was sure was once posted at the barricade to make someones sleeping place a little more comfortable. People needed at least some form of comfort if they were going to last six more days in this kind of situation.
Pausing as her eyes scanned over the empty showcase at Tim Hortons, Ritsa's eyes narrowed. She knew from experience that most Tim hortons had rolling showcases. And while somewhat easy to move because of their wheels, she could break those off to help add support. And if nothing else at least the rods and shelves could be salvaged to repair broken windows and add weight to the barricade and help make it harder for anything else to enter.
Nodding to herself Ritsa approached the counter, looking over towards the other side as a precaution. Lifting the entrance part of the counter out of the way Ritsa moved towards the showcases and tugged to see if it would come. Nope, it was heavily bolted to the floor. An older model no doubt. Thinking further Ritsa leaned against the counter to think. Where else could she find items to help her with a barricade. Her eyes scanned over the showcase again focusing on the several rows of metal even they looked solid in there. The light fixtures on the underside of each shelf however looked like it could be separated. But what use would shattered glass do?
Her eyes moved across the hall from one end to the other until her gaze narrowed on what appeared to be lone shelving. That could always be used to help reinforce the barricades right? So far she had seen no sign of weakness in it compared to the last little while. Save for the odd item that had been removed for someone to sleep on.
Scurrying around the counter towards the hall, Ritsa darted for another store. Hot topic, while it had been looted, the metal shelves were still in place. Maybe this time with a little luck she could get the shelves to move. Giving the shelving a tap as she ran around towards the back end Ritsa gave the structure a heave. Feeling a little pride as the shelving responded to her pushing. It was slow and very noisy, and the woman was sure it would wake anyone who was sleeping nearby.
Once clearing the shelves from the store itself, Ritsa stopped to take a breath. It was heavy, and there was no way she was going to be able to carry it around the store in search of any breach. The best she could hope for now was to move the unit towards one of the entrances and hope she had guessed right. Ritsa pushed for what felt like a good hour or two before someone ran up to her shouting a direction she could push it. And two more men took hold of the other edges to help her shift the shelving forward.
"We were coming back for this. The more we can put in front of these glass doors the better. Someone removed a mattress that was placed in front of the door so this would make a great replacement."
Ritsa silently nodded pushing and shoving at the case as she had been instructed to do. Every little bit counted, and it was a relief to know that there were others just as determined to block up the entrance's and openings as she was. "Thank you." Ritsa began, "I'm sorry I didn't get this sooner."
"No, no, it's alright." One of the men grumbled as the shelves moved swiftly over the floor. Once at the barricade it took several more of them to wiggle it into place. Having to back it up and change angle's before it could fit in a way that satisfied the man ordering everyone around.
