Peter was feeling some accomplishment that amongst other things, he and the team had managed to bring back the electricity to a few areas in the campus and consequently, some semblance of security in those few areas. It was a tricky dilemma between conserving the energy to last them a bit longer, or to take back more of the campus from the darkness. For now, the most critical areas have been covered, but as scavenging expeditions were beginning to result in less and less, the time to expand was getting sooner.
The professor arrived at the gym lockers, almost sure by now that the important equipment have all been taken. The empty bag in his hand rustled pathetically, and the man resolved that he would have to be content with bringing back anything that could be even vaguely useful.

Stepping into the room, Peter noticed how the lights were flickering between full capacity to a dim glow. If they were to clear out the entire area eventually, perhaps they could simply shut this place down.
Moving towards the lockers, he found a pile of notebooks and pens littered the ground – the aftermath of what was apparently a mass raiding of the lockers. It didn't surprise him to see that the students did not value them very much, but he would take them now, thank you. The lack of computers meant a return to the analog, which he didn't mind so much as long as there was enough paper.
Speaking of which, there was more paper lying about in the corner of the room. The professor leafed through a few of them, noticing a few names here and there, before stuffing the lot into the bag. Records of students held some sentimental value, but for now they are better served as fuel for fires.
Passing through, the rest of the lockers along the row would not budge, and the man knew better than to make a ruckus of forcing them open. There was no need for any unwanted attention, or for scaring anyone else unnecessarily.

Peter remembered a time when the bookstore was a safe haven from the crowd of noisy students, a place to supply all his needs because somehow, the pens were always vanishing from under the stacks of paperwork he dealt with. Now it was just an abandoned mess, a hell hole of disorganisation. Stray pages from textbooks and miscellaneous brochures were strewn all over the floor, stepped and crumpled into a faded grey layer than was almost merging with the floor. He sighed as he passed over a page that he recognised to be from one of his textbooks. Oh sadness and sorrow.

Sifting through the pile of papers had only brought him pain – from the fall of education, and also the numerous papercuts on his hands. Which also meant that these books were new.
Unfortunately, the bag he had with him had already been filled with paperwork scavenged from the gym, or he would have taken some of these morsels of knowledge with him.
The collapse furniture in the room formed mounds of matter which he hardly dared to venture into, lest he might find something waiting under the piles of debris. The bookmark stand was picked up and used to poke at some slowly, mostly unveiling more paper and collapsing the pile into itself further.
The metal stand eventually caught onto something, which he gingerly pulled at to find a bag hooked at the other end. Not a bad catch, he observed, fishing it up and patting it down. Useful for the expedition team, he concluded, slinging it over his shoulder and picking up as much paper as he could to go along with. He could come back for the rest later.
