Description: Unfortunately for survivors, the mall was built to let people in instead of keeping people out. There are numerous entrances and exits scattered around the mall, and that doesn’t even include the direct entrances and exits some stores have. Everyone agrees that a lock isn’t enough. Rather than have the worst happen, everyone is encouraged to scavenge and locate what they can from the mall and use it to help barricade and block off entrances. At least one entrance has been barricaded and set up to use as a main entrance and exit. The rest need to be reinforced.

Goal: RP your survivor finding something to help barricade the mall. It can be a table or chairs from one of the many stores, or even one of the stands out in the middle of the mall floor. Have them add it to a barricade. There are barricades that lead directly to the mall, as well as barricades within stores themselves.

First time doing this quest? Please write a minimum of 100 words for 1 Arcade Token.

Repeating? Minimum word count jumps up to 300 in order to claim your 1 Arcade Token.

Feeling wordy? Go above and beyond the bare minimum for additional tokens! You need to meet this word count while doing the quest, so no going back to pad your quest to claim tokens! These token bonuses do not stack, so you can't write 100 words to claim 1 token, then add 300 words to claim 2 more tokens.

500 words = 2 Arcade Tokens.
600 words = 3 Arcade Tokens.
700 words = 4 Arcade Tokens.
800 words = 5 Arcade Tokens.

Stumped? Now’s a great time for your character to reflect on the crazy things that have gone down. Maybe they’re upset and need to calm down by nailing things into the barricade. Maybe they’re feeling creative and think the barricades could use more color and decide to go crazy with some glitter glue. The only requirement (aside from the word count) is that your character is doing something to improve the barricades protecting them and everyone else from the infected.

Whistle While You Work: Doing stuff alone is fine, but you don’t have to solo! Feel free to play along with some friends as you work together. The word count can be spread out throughout your total posts for the day.

Granny Smith Searched out anyone who happened to be near by the entrance she had spotted. First the original barricade got toppled over, and second, it clearly needed some heaver things anyways, and there was no way she could move it herself.

"You you and you! We need to get this barricade up by that big entrance. I'm not letting any infected into here. I'm too old to fight them 24/7."

He didn't really like being told what to do, at least not the way she did it. But old people were gonna be just that, old people. So with a snort Drew stood up, giving Leiah a "more work, let's go" look before walking over to Granny.

"Sure thing," he said while looking over the current barricade. It did look pretty flimsy.

Well, it wasn't like they were doing anything important so Leigh got up with a smile, nodding at Drew and bouncing over to granny. She seemed old and cranky, but neer judge a book by its cover, especially if the old lady had the potential to be somewhat similar to the awesome Betty White. That old woman had jokes and pranks for days! Leiah may or may not want to be her whenever she got old...IF she got old.

Man that was depressing.

"What do you need us to do granny?"

Reinforcing barricades would be a welcome return to what passed for 'normal', as far as Megan was concerned. Hauling stuff around was much less dangerous than fighting off bandits with a bar stool.

The short little Asian hopped up, full of pep. Weird how some excitement can make you appreciate what little stability you have in your life. "Ready to go, any ideas where to find materials?"

So this was normal now. It's been what, a month since the outbreak? Whoever heard of surviving a zombie apocalypse by holding out under siege? This way certainly worked for overall survivability, but maybe that's why it was never really used as a plot except in that one movie. But then again, the guys running the base in that movie turned out to be evil and these people really weren't so bad. They fought off those raiders together, didn't they? Strength in numbers!

She didn't care if they thought she was grumpy or cranky. She was stylish and right too. Her boa flowed with her.

"We need to find a store to raid." Granny Smith looked around. "I think I saw some good stuff this a way. Pick up the pace, don't be slow, infected could come at any second you know. It's easier to keep them out than to let them in and try to get them back out again."

Everyone knew that. This wasn't call of duty, they couldn't just head shot theses Mofos and then clear out the bodies. Once they were in the only option would be to disable and trap them and then hope that they didn't find a way out again.

Granny found a store and pointed at it. "This one still has a few shelves left. That big one over there I can't move on my own." she pointed at a large display case. "I think that one will do as the main one for the doors. If we each grab a side, we can pull it over there. it's not doing any good here."

For someone her age she sure could move.

It was a passing thought the kept the amused look on Drew's face as Granny led the away to some store or another. The shelves did look more than usable, as did the display case she turned her focus to almost right away. They'd be able to come back for a couple of other things after they got the display case out and against that entrance.

Drew picked a random corner and waited for the others to do the same. "On the count of three?"

Goodness Granny could move with that feather boa! Leiah almost had to speed walk to keep up, graoning just slightly at the thought of lifting stuff, but if it meant she wouldnt be hit in the face with a bat again she'd take it. It was still painful as hell to talk, so she made sure she carried around a notepad that she found at spencers. so she could write what she needed to say and not be in pain because of it.

Leiah also picked a random corner, smiling at everyone and waiting, taking a deep breath before she looked to granny: "Youh gonna lyft tooth?" Ugh, the pain of not sounding like herself was more painful than her jaw.

Megan had to jog to keep up with the group, thanks to her small size. Good thing she was a good runner! That granny was fast, no wonder she survived the initial outbreak. When they stopped, she eyed the display shelf that had been chosen. It was a big one for sure, sturdy and heavy. Would they need to tie it down or would it be okay to just cram it into the barricade? Guess they’d have to see when they get there.

As the other young people chose their corners, she did the same, looking for a way to get a good grip on it. Everyone else was pretty tall, so she expected this to be awkward for someone of her stature. Then again, lifting large boxes with coworkers was always awkward for her. She bent down and got her hands under the shelf. “Alright, let’s get this moving.”

"Of course I'm going to lift too! I'm not weak and pathetic. I survived this long because I aint afraid to roll up my sleeves and get stuff done." she told the girl, Linda was it? She couldn't remember her name so well, Granny was loosing her ability to do that. Anyway, she told the girl with the bruised jaw.

Her jaw might not have worked but her body was fine, well enough to lift this shelf. Besides she was managing to speak well enough. Too much if you asked her.

"The count of three sounds fine Dean." She said to Drew. That was his name, right? "Alrighty now, one two three!" Granny pulled and lifted. She wasn't so strong but with three other helpers, if they pulled they would be able to get it up. and when they did she slid much slower than her earlier pace, careful not to drop it. they would make it about half way before she would yell loudly, "Alright I got to set it down. I'm old and need a breather." once down she collapsed onto the nearest object tall enough to sit on. To be honest that shelf was just really heave, just the ticket for keeping out unwanted infected.

Granny took a moment to herself, eyes closed and shaking her arms out before standing once again. "Alright crew! places Everyone! One two three!"

And off they were again hauling the heavy shelf into position. "Just set it in front of these doors here. The ones that slide sideways. Yeah that one. Those are glass, that glass won't hold for a second."

He knew better than to correct Granny, so he kept his mouth shut and followed her lead. Soon enough they were hauling a** back to the flimsy barricade--though thanks to Granny there were plenty of stops in between. Not that he minded the pauses, it gave him a chance to check on Leiah every so often. Injuries like hers generally meant no heavy lifting, but there didn't seem to be any stopping her from making herself useful.

Eventually they managed to get back to the barricade and he, along with the others, positioned it according to Granny's orders. Once done he leaned up against the sturdy case, just nearby Megan whom he nodded by way of greeting before turning toward Granny again.

"I think I saw some tables in a couple of those shops we passed on the way back," he said, though a breather was a good thing. Damn case was heavy...

So granny had some fire in her huh? Leiah just gave the older woman a smile, lifting the case was a bit harder than she thought and she stumbled slightly, glad they made stops in between so she could get her footing. Even though she kinda wanted to just walk it all over there in one go so she could move onto the next thing.

Yeah, next item she hopes they just take it in one go, her arms were killing her and she hated stopping now that she thought about it. When Drew mentioned chairs after they set the case down, Leiah was quick to volunteer, scribbling on her note pad:

I CAN DO THAT!!!

She would rather lift chairs then shelves any day.

Once they got the shelf into position Granny stepped back and admired their work.

"Tables are good. I'll grab some chairs. Anything and everything. Try to stack in a nice fashion though. I'm not living in a pig sty. Also a couple of vases for up top. We can use them to decorate and to make a lot of sound if they get bumped. Nothing like an early warning system." she walked off to grab some chairs and a table cloth to throw over the heap of a mess.

They kids were doing fine, volunteering even. Good. They got the one heavy thing done, time to relax and just do a little work now. "Make sure anyone trying to get through has to make a lot of sound."

So they wound up just shoving the thing into the barricade? That works. Despite the breaks on the way there, Megan was glad for the chance to take another breather. She paused to catch her breath and wipe her brow before heading back the way they came, glancing in at the stores as they went by. A few stores were just big piles of broken junk at this point. What a waste.

“Tables? Were they round? We can tip them on their sides and roll them, it’ll be faster!” She’d moved round tables that way before while moving house, it was pretty easy. And here, they wouldn’t need to fiddle with pointless crap like protecting floors with a trail of cardboard sheets. That’s assuming they were round, of course. Square tables tend to suck for moving and it would probably take two people to move one. Chairs would be workable though, one person could probably take two at a time.

"I...think they were round?" He wasn't actually sure, but no sense in getting her hopes down so soon. He got up and started making headway to the various stores, nabbing what breakable objects there were and making note of whatever else could be shoved up against the barricade. He set a vase and what looked to be some busted up metal thing.

"It'll clang if it falls," he said to Granny before going back to work. "Meg, I think I saw those tables over there some place," and he pointed in one direction, then again in another direction. "Babe, there are chairs over there. I'll grab what I can from the stores further down."
