After safely returning back to the mall, Ellie returns to 'Her' store and tucks away the potato and the extra bottle of water away in the cafe's fridge.

As she walks out from the back and see's the mess before her, she frowns... She had a lot of work to do if she was going to make this place a home...

Well, first things first! After tucking her bag away and figuratively rolling up her sleeves, Ellie begin's taking every book off every shelf and sorting them!

It took a while, a long while, but finally Ellie gets every book sorted and moved to the store room. Which was now her book vault.

As generous and kind as the shy brown haired girl was, she now considered everything in the store to be her's now! She wanted her stuff safely tucked away so looters wouldn't ransack the place again... The only thing anybody really had taken from the bookstore was the food from the cafe. But, that didn't mean they wouldn't come back wanting other things!

Once all the books were put away, she accepts the preoffered help from before to move the bookcase. The Manager, a few remaining employees, and a couple of friendly burly guys helped her move all the bookcases along the wall so the whole store practically was open in the center!

The rug was filthy... Using brooms and dustpans they raided from Walmart, the crew begin cleaning the carpets and floors as best they could. When they finished, it actually looked pretty good!

With the floors cleaned, it was finally time to work on the layout!

Ellie had already decided her 'room' would be the special kids section in the back. Her bed would be the little stage area. The curtain provided a great privacy screen and also kept in the warmth. She'd need bedding though...

With her room established, Ellie set out sectioning off 'rooms' using bookcases. She had a changing room, a treasure room, a reading room, a guest bed room, and in the center she moved all the lounge chairs into a square so she had a general living room area!

She still needed a few things though... She left all the cafe furniture where it was, so she needed more tables and chairs for her 'rooms'... She also needed trashbins and curtains or something to act as doors...

But that all would have to wait. She had another pressing issue...

As she stood there looking at the broken display window, a musing frown forms on her face...

It didn't take long for the Manager to notice this and come over to stand next to her, a frown forming on his face as well... It had been a nightmare in the beginning when the Infected and Undying came around... They all had to retreat to the store room and wait it out... Now that this was going to be Ellie's home for the next seven days, that simply wouldn't do any more...

"Hm... I think... Before you can call this place a home Ellie, we need to barricade it to make it safe." The Manager says finally which causes her to look at him and nod silently.

He was right... But where to begin?

Where to start... That was a bit of a tricky question... One that could only be answered after knowing a few important details about 'her' store.

First of all, the Barnes and Noble wasn't your traditional big name Mall bookstore. Because of how crammed the giant mall was, the company opted to go small and go elegant. This Barnes and Noble didn't have a second story, and nor did it have the huge entry way most did. Instead, it was themed off the kind of mall bookstore you'd see at a outdoor mall or shopping center!

First, the doors comprised of two large mahogany doors with beautiful hardware. Despite the thickness of the doors, they were surprisingly easy to open. The doors open up into a sort of mud room. This is where tables would display the best selling books usually and have a welcome mat to wipe your feet off of. Then another set of doors identical to the first would greet the visitor before they'd enter the store proper. The interior, as previously mentioned, was smaller then most Barnes and Noble stores. More akin to Books-a-million size. However, what it lacked in space, it made up for with elegance!

Replicated marble columns lined the walls at evenly spaced intervals while a beautifully elegant chandelier marked the center of the store. Four fine, comfortable, lounge chairs were placed parallel to each other while the sturdy bookcases added charm. To the left of the entrance was the cafe with it's pomp and elegance.

Unlike most big name mall stores, this one didn't have a big mall entrance in the back. Instead they had choosen to put the kids area in the back and make it a bit bigger then what was common in malls. A trait more common with outdoor Barnes and Noble mall stores.

Finally, two LARGE display windows with fairly thick glass sat on either side of the centrally located door. Ellie still wasn't sure how the Infected had managed to break that one window...

And of course... After Day Zero... A lot of the elegance had been sullied... Quite literally in fact... Blood stained a few various places of the once rich, elegant, carpet, and the whole place looked unkempt... Especially now that all the bookcases had been moved...

Still, it's where the shy, brown haired girl had decided to call home, and that was good enough for her! Least the bathrooms still worked. And, the kitchen still did on occasion as well! Though the power was pretty sporadic... The lights worked too, but they reframed from turning them on for fear they'd attract unwanted attention...

With the building understood, it was now time for the hard part, patching up the window...

It didn't take long for them to decide on taking apart the bookcases to use as wood. But, they needed building supplies... That meant raiding any hardware stores they could find... And looking for more wood yet...

Well, there was no time like the present! And they needed to hurry! It was already some time after three! If they didn't finish all this before dark and didn't at least block out the windows, they could be in serious trouble... Undying/Infected trouble...

With a plan made, the group get to work disassembling the bookcases.

Ellie helped as much as they would allow, and when mutterings of who would go out to fetch supplies floated through the air, it was determined Ellie should stay there. She wasn't having any of it however! She wasn't going to let them do all the work on her home! And so, after grabbing her red messenger bag, she and a few other's set out to scavenge!

It took a good while to find everything they needed. Most of the stores had been completely ransacked! It was hard to find a hammer or a drill much less nails and screws!

Finally however, they found everything they needed. It often involved lots of running and hiding but it was done!

When the group returned victorious, they were met with cheers and piles of neatly stacked wood. It was time to begin!

The most important place to start was the broken window.

Board after board was nailed or screwed in place. Building it like a wall, the made the barricade at least three layers deep. They also offset the boards for extra strength. Hey, it turned out one of the big blury guys they'd gotten to help was a construction worker! Once the initial barricade was up, they begin stacking things behind it --Mostly stray furniture from outside that wasn't all bloody.-- till the display shelf was full.

The second window, which was still intact, didn't take as much wood or furniture to secure and it took almost no time to finish. Finally, the windows of the ornate entrance doors were boarded up and the back entrances were barricaded.

Her home was secure!

Standing back, Ellie wipes some sweat from her brow with a satisfied smile. The Manager also steps back with a pleased expression. "Good job everyone! I think it's as secure as it's going to get!" he announces jovially! "Now, all we need to do is test it!" he states happily before carefully heading outside with the rest of the group following suit.

First, Ellie tested the side with the broken window, being careful not to cut herself on the glass. No matter how hard she kicked and shoved the boards they wouldn't budge! Next, the manager and employees tried their hand. The results were the same! Nothing budged! Not even the doors when they were dead bolted shut! Finally, the burly guys tried. Once again the defense stayed strong!

Her home was completely secured and safe! In fact, it very well could be one of the safest places in the mall! Least it seemed that way.

As the group walk back inside and look at their handiwork, Ellie couldn't help but feel extremely grateful! "T-thank you s-so much!" she exclaims in a shy but very thankful tone! Her shy thanks was met with smiles from everybody and a hand on her shoulder by the manager. "Congratulations Ellie! Your a home owner now! Hah hah! If even for just seven days!" he says jovially before nodding. "Now, we need to get our homes set up. If your ever in danger or need help make sure to use your whistle. I'm sure someone will come." he says in a more somber tone. She nods and he smiles.

After waving her farewells and shutting the door, Ellie sighs happily. She had a safe home now... One all to herself... And while the alone bit wasn't all that comforting, the secure home part was! Finally, after relishing her new home a bit more, she opens her eyes and realizes just how... Bare it was now... With all the bookcases gone it felt so large and... Empty...

Looks like it was time for a trip to the dreaded... IKEA... She knew the group wouldn't approve, and this was one instance where she was glad to be on her own. They definitely would have tried and stop her. But she was determined! She was going to make her house a home, and that was that!

And so, after grabbing her bag and the key to the front door, she locks up her new house and carefully makes her way to IKEA!

Upon arriving at IKEA, she was met by the myriad of warning signs... She couldn't help but giggle a bit at the sign suggesting bring a ball of twine. She'd never been in a IKEA before, but could it really be that big? After shaking her head a bit in amusement, she bravely steps in the omnious super store...

It turns out... That it could be THAT big... She was halfway through the maze when she started wishing she'd brought string... Well, there was nothing for it. She was already here, better to just get things done.

Fortunately, she had no trouble finding floor models she liked. While she forgot to bring string, she had brought a notepad and pencil! Whenever she found something she liked, she'd write down the needed details before moving on. Once she had a good list of things, she decides it was time to leave the maze and find the right boxes.

Only... Which way was out...?
