Emmanuel figured that then was good of a time as any to go scavenging. He was bored anyway, if that was possible during a zombie apocalypse.
Well, he supposed it was.
He went to the front where there were some bags and fished around for the biggest one he could find. Thankfully, he found one. He'd come back with it later, preferrably filled with some things. Emmanuel set out for one of the supermarkets nearby, figuring that was as good a place as any to find a lot of stuff.
There were plenty of things to find here, noted Emmanuel, even though it had obviously already been looted. There were things scattered around the floor and the shelves, and perhaps some of it could be useful to him.
He went for some cans he found on the ground, plucking up one near a shallow puddle. Beefaroni. This was perfect! Grinning victoriously, Emmanuel collected the item and dropped it into his inventory -- err, bag. This wasn't a video game.
He picked up a can of sardines as well, even though sardines were nasty. Food was food.
There was a stick on the ground nearby. He didn't think it would be more useful than his knife as a weapon, but perhaps it could bludgeon. Blunt damage? Good enough for him. It went into the bag, too.
It was getting quite full, but there was enough room for a rather skimpy bikini he saw hanging on a rack. He whistled at it immaturely before he dropped it into the bag. Maybe one of the ladies would find this useful for the pool...
When he heard a noise, Emmanuel decided that perhaps he should be done here and so, he left in a hurry.
6 - You find a can of Beefaroni. Zelda Approves! 1 - You find a dented tin of sardines submerged in a shallow puddle. Mmm. 5 - You find a hefty stick. Maybe someone can use it to hold open a door or something. 7 - You find a bikini.
Umbrellas. Emmanuel didn't get the obsession, really, but he figured it was like anything else in games: a weird faction with a weird requirement to get in good with them before they respected your authority.
He was already good with them, because he had lived there in the first place, but he needed to level up.
Emmanuel decided to go back to the supermarket to find himself some umbrellas. He was pretty sure he had seen some in there that had not been looted yet. Was just a key of locating them, which he could do. He had a quest item sense.
After making sure he didn't hear any more strange noises from inside the building, he walked in and headed towards the outdoor gear section. He was pretty sure a lot of things had gotten scattered, but it was as good of a place as any to start looking.
The area was predictably pretty picked over, which wasn't surprising because this area would have had the most useful things for surviving outdoors in that chaos, but he saw a pile of things that were shoved aside that he moved towards. Hm. Making sure there was nothing in the pile first by chucking part of a shelf at it, he then approached and dug through the pile.
Eureka, umbrellas!
They were awful looking umbrellas, sure. He was pretty sure this ugly brown and blue one had to be some manufacturing defect, and the dots and stripes did not go at all on this second one, but it didn't matter. Zelda didn't care how the umbrellas looked, she just wanted everyone to have them. And so he grabbed one ugly umbrella after another, even plucking up one that for some reason had a floating plastic bag pattern.
Who thought of these things? Were these umbrellas made by Undying?
No matter. Once he had gathered five on his arms, Emmanuel headed back out of the hotel to hand over at least three to Zelda. Perhaps he'd keep one for himself in case his current umbrella broke...
Emmanuel decided to obtain another bag so he could go and gather some more things from nearby locations. It struck him that perhaps he should just stick to looting some of the apartments, but perhaps he should save that for desperate times. For now, he could go out and bring more things in.
The cloth bag he picked up unfortunately was nowhere near as big as the last cloth bag he had used, but at least he could get a couple things with it. And so, he set outside of the apartments and darted over to a convenience store. Going to a place any bigger with this tiny bag would be silly.
Emmanuel wasn't surprised that it wasn't the most stocked place. Plenty of video games and movies had taught him that most of these places would be pretty picked over when he got to them, but with just enough of the right items to keep him going. Perhaps he should look for some umbrellas in here after this...
As he was looking around, his eyes fell upon a bottle of water. It was an incredibly tiny bottle of water, though, and Emmanuel scoffed at it. What use was this?
Well, better than no water, he guessed. It went into the bag.
This bag was very very tiny, and the small bottle of water almost filled up the bag on its own. That was when Emmanuel found the figurative quest goal, though, and it was just small enough to fit. While half the batteries were missing, the rest of the batteries in this package would be extremely useful. He placed those in his tiny bag, determined it was full, and decided to look for some umbrellas to carry back...
4 - You find a very small bottle of water, probably one of those ones they give people on planes. 10 - You find a half used package of batteries. Zelda approves!
Emmanuel was not sure where they would have umbrellas in this store, but he figured going near the area that had some outdoor toys for kids was as good as any.
It so happened that Emmanuel was correct in his assumption that the umbrellas would be near the outdoor things. There were only three left, but that was good enough for him. He probably couldn't carry much more than that anyway. Each of the umbrellas were the ones that expanded when a button was pressed, which he supposed could be useful as a sort of projectile bludgeon damage. Plus, they were umbrellas. Zelda would like them anyway.
They were all rather plain because they were cheap, but that was fine. Wait, did he hear some dragging? Time to go.
As he calmly attempted to speed out, he plucked up a paddle ball, because why not. He'd play this in the lounge. Once he was safe from the Undying.
4 - no umbrella 8 - umbrella 4 - no umbrella 3 - umbrella 5 - umbrella
3+ umbrellas = 2 cocktail umbrellas from Zelda

CLEARVIEW MAID SERVICE - DAY 3
Emmanuel was not one for intense cleaning sessions.
Still, he was much happier to be assigned cleaning now, after all the chaos had been ... removed, than the alternative. Emmanuel shuddered. He was perfectly fine doing the Undying Destroying (or trying to, anyway), but having to clean up after the messes they caused (and were)? No thanks.
That wasn't to say he was happy having to clean up after people, though. Hopefully he would be able to put in minimal effort and have that be enough. Maybe he could go back to playing paddle ball.
(Was he that desperate to go back to playing games?)
Emmanuel headed to one of the furthest places on the first floor, cleaning supplies in hand.

This room didn't seem to be so bad.
Emmanuel entered to find that the room, while a bit dusty and dingy, was not actually all that dirty. Perhaps staying on the first floor for his cleaning duties was the best idea he had had all day. Grinning, Emmanuel strolled into the room, determined to take on his task of cleaning the place up as quickly as possible.
The first thing he did was pick up some of the smaller knick-knacks off the floor. No one needed them anymore, he presumed, but it might be nice if anyone wanted to claim the room to have some decorations.
Alternatively, could be good for cash later. If they ever got out of there anyway.

Once all the knick-knacks were scooped off the ground, Emmanuel looked around for anything else that might need his taking care of.
Not much, it seemed, but he could probably afford to make this room a little less dingy and dusty. His nose tickled just being in this room. So, he took out a washcloth and some cleaning sprays and did just that. It took a while to sweep the whole apartment, so he ended up needing more than just a few spritzes of cleaning supplies, but he made sure not to overuse them because supplies were definitely at a premium now.
Once he started to notice his nose tickling a bit less, he figured he had cleaned up the major amount of dust that had been scattered throughout the room. As a bonus, everything looked rather shiny! Perhaps Emmanuel should hide out in here if his room ever got infected for some reason.
He was pretty sure it didn't work like that, though.
With a shrug, he gathered up his things and left.
Done

BEYOND THE BARRICADE - DAY 3
With that hole in the wall, it was important to make sure they kept the barricades up.
Emmanuel gathered something from the unused room he had been cleaning, a few plastic laundry bins, stacked. He wasn't entirely sure why this person had had so many laundry bins, but it didn't matter. He would find another use for them now.
He headed towards the windows of this apartment to see if they needed any reinforcement.
A lot of reinforcement, it looked like. Well, time to get to work. Emmanuel lifted the first plastic bin and started finding ways to pin it to the window.
Who had debarricaded these windows, anyway? Had someone broken through them? Emmanuel guessed it didn't matter. It was a bit like those repeatable quests in video games. Every day, for some reason, the same thing reset, and then they went back and fixed it again for rewards...
It was fine, Emmanuel could handle this. Though he had more trouble lifting things than he thought.
Why was it so hard to put these bins together? They had stacked just fine, but barricading them stacked against windows was apparently a different story.
Finally, it started to make more sense! It was like a puzzle. Perhaps if he pieced these ones there and those ones over there, that would be enough to make this work as a barricade. Even if they were kinda flimsy plastic.
That even left one left over to add to the still intact barricade over there...
