Among all of the equipment and sports gear that lie around ready for common use on the playing field, there is a section squared off for another test that the faction has created for new members. It's simple enough - you're given a paintball gun with a silencer on it - this is important, because guns are too noisy to be fired out in the open field, even if it's still protected by the electrified fence. It might attracted too much unwanted attention.
A crudely made mechanical device pops up cardboard cut outs of what looks like were once poster advertisements of various people. There's a busty woman smoking a cigarette and leaning on something that might have been a car. There's a young man in jeans that hang too low, trying to look like James Dean in a black and white photo. There are several of these cardboard people, most of which are only from the midsection up, that pop up at random times like Whack a Moles. Interspersed between them are similar cutouts - except these have been altered. The skin has been colored to green, eyes have been blackened or reddened, and blood seems to have been drawn everywhere. These are the infected. It's your job to shoot them. And only them.
The test isn't necessarily a chance to practice your shooting skills - it's meant to test your ability to make quick decisions, and a crude attempt to lesson friendly fire casualties. The cutouts pop up fast, and at random, making for a hectic challenge; so it's also a stress test.
Step One: Roll 6d6 in one NON-RP post. Each dice is considered one cutout, in the exact order they are rolled. Even means it was a human, odd means it was a zombie.
Step Two: In your next post, roll 6d6 again. Each dice is considered the shot for the cutouts in your first roll. The first dice tells you whether you hit the first cutout, and so on. Even means you shot it, odd means you did not shoot. -You must roleplay each cutout individually, although you may do them all in this one post. Just describing what you hit is enough. -This post in total must be a minimum of 300 words.
Example: -I roll 6d6 and get 5, 6, 3, 1, 5. This means I have a zombie, a human, a zombie, a zombie, and a zombie, in that order. -I roll 6d6 again, and get 6, 3, 5, 1, 2. This means I hit a zombie, I did not fire at a human, I did not fire at a zombie, I did not fire at a zombie, I hit a zombie.
IC Modifiers: -Your character might be wary about shooting anything (This is your roleplay choice based on your character). If so, you are allowed to choose to change one of your six shots to a no-shot, each time you do this exercise. -Your character might be trigger happy (This is your roleplay choice based on your character). If so, you are allowed to choose to change one of your six shots to a hit, each time you do this exercise. -You may not do BOTH of these each time. Just one. -You may choose to do neither. -The choices you make do affect your end score.
Rewards: For every zombie you hit, you get 1 bar. For every human you did not shoot, you get 1 bar. For every human you hit, you lose 1 bar. You cannot get negative numbers, so if your third shot hits a human and you are at 0, you remain at zero. You may do this once a day.
Human = Miss Zombie = Hit Human = Miss Human = Miss Human = Miss Zombie = Hit
Maria walked with the small group to the playing field, a little green on the cheeks as she thought about her upcoming task. She had avoided this for awhile, choosing instead to hide in the medical ward. However, everyone needed to be tested, and so she was inevitably hunted down and dragged with a group of stragglers to firing range.
She was nervous because it involved shooting paintballs at targets, in an effort to see who would make a good scavenger and who would be better suited far away from heavy arms.
Rubbing her face a bit as she listened to the instructions, the girl eyed the field as cardboard cutouts popped up, some looking human and others looking inhuman.
After the demo was done, a few stepped up and took their turn, and it seemed that the popups were fast. She stayed near the end of the line, watching and growing a bit nervous. However, she remembered her need to prove herself, and so as it got closer to her turn, she felt her nerves fade away to something else.
Instead of thinking about anything more, she turned to another close by and send a half smile.
"Trying to get out beyond the gate?"

"Not likely!" Sylvi snorted, grinning wryly at the other woman. Aptitude testing for shooting was a neccessity, but not one she particularly relished beyond its purpose; having a good handle on firearms would come in handy, she was sure, at least if all the zombie flicks were anything to go by. That didn't mean she had to enjoy it.
"Nah, I'm quite fine staying here." She nodded, punctuating her own words. "What about you? Looking to adventure?"
Not that she could imagine many people were, in their current situation. The undying rising up kind of took the fun out of things, at least as far as she was concerned.

Nodding, Maria agreed silently with the idea of staying behind and in safety. It wasn't the most comfortable place, but she couldn't imagine anywhere else making her feel the way she did. Even the howlers didn't make her worry, because she trusted the walls she hid behind.
"Well, I'm not looking to get killed, so if I ever have to face adventure, I know I need to know something...I guess I've just been dragging my feet a bit."
She let out a nervous laugh before the instructor walked up and all but shoved the paintball gun into her hands. Giving minimal instruction, he pushed the girl forward, and Maria sent a bit of an eye roll toward Sylvi.
Stepping up, she let her shoulders relax as the leader barked at her to get started, and her shaking hand was pulled up as she closed one eye and focused. Green is bad, white is good. Red means hit, clean means stop.
In a rush, she let out a breath and just shot, seeing her strikes hit and not aware of what was good and what wasn't. More than once, she struck toward a human, and at the last second tried to move her paintball gun away with hopes that she might miss.
Odds were, this was no Men in Black trick test.
As she heard the last cutout drop, she let her gun fall with shaking hands. The cutouts all popped up at once to show how she did, and Maria quickly studied them.
First one was a human, and she was happy to say she missed it if by a little hair.
The second one was a zombie, and she seemed to hit it near the shoulder.
The next was another human, and another miss.
And another human. She was a bit meek to notice she had still shot at them, but missed them as well.
The last human was also a miss, but this was the closest yet. She saw her paintball lodged near the ear.
And finally, a zombie, and this one was right in the chest.
No headshots, but she did some damage. Grinning at the instructor, she bounced back toward Sylvi and gave the girl a nod.
"It's not too bad...good luck!"

Humming in agreement, Sylvi sent the other woman an encouraging smile as a paintball gun was shoved into her hands. Her reasons had sounded much like her own, and she hoped the brunette would be able to survive whatever adventure came her way. The way things had gone, it was unlikely any of them would be able to avoid it entirely.
And then she relaxed her stance, watching as the other woman completely nailed it. Running her eyes over the targets once the brunette had finished, she let out a low whistle, impressed. "That was some ace judgment!" She'd tried keeping track of the targets as well, and Sylvi knew there were a few of the humans she'd have fired at.
Well, now was her chance. "Thanks," she nodded to the other woman with a wry grin, taking the paintball gun and moving to the spot that she'd vacated.
She had a moment to get ready and then the targets were coming up.
The first one looked like a zombie, but she'd pressed the trigger before even being certain - sheer reaction, and then that one was going down and a new one coming up.
Another zombie; the first shot had been nerves, but the second was more calculated. She felt surer this time, more aware, and the shot hit the cardboard cutout nicely in the chest.
The third was a zombie as well and this time she recognized the signs quickly, shooting it neatly out of reflex.
The next one was a human and she almost shot before realising it; thankfully she held herself back at the last moment and didn't.
The one after that was a zombie - okay, s**t, so it wasn't, Sylvi realised as she stared at the decidedly human target now with a blob of paint on it. Ah.
There wasn't time to ruminate on her error though, as the last target came up and a quick look over it assured her that it was human.
The instructor announced that she was done, and all the targets came up. She'd... done okay, actually, only one wrong shot. "That wasn't so bad," she announced to no-one in particular, grinning a bit and slowly relaxing the tension in her body.

"That was pretty great! You nearly got all targets!"
Maria said with a grin and a nod as Sylvi moved away from the field and the last few people took their shot. Shifting a bit, she waited until the instructor complemented them on their work, as well as shook his head at those who didn't have quite the same judgement or aiming skills. Feeling slightly more confident, she rubbed her hands.
"At least I know I can, somewhat, aim when I'm out there...although they say the head is the best place to hit."
It seemed morbid she was talking about this, but unfortunately, that is how they lived.

"Yeah that sounds about right, but hey, a shot somewhere would still slow them down, right? Recoil or something?" Sylvi shrugged, smiled, "I don't know honestly, all my knowledge of situations like this come from TV or movies. Probably not the best metric to go by."
Gently bumping her shoulder against Maria's, she grinned, "I reckon you're right though, we did pretty damn good out there! Any zombie killing squad would be thrilled to have us."

"Same here, I guess if we get picked for going outside of the compound, they will let us know the right way to fight...or I hope so..."
She rubbed her face and grinned back, "Give me a gun and some distance, and I'll make sure no one gets through!" It was a bit of a laugh, but she was feeling confident and ready to go after one session. In her mind, she could do anything, and she all but bounced around at the rush she was getting.

"I'm sure they'll give us some directions, yeah," she nodded in agreement. "Or maybe we'll go in teams and there'll be a lead?" That seemed pretty likely too, in her mind.
"Right!" She laughed. "I'm Sylvi, by the way - I've seen you around before, but I don't think we've met, so, nice to meet you."
