The operation run in the subway had not been an unmitigated success, but it had achieved its purpose and that was enough. It had left behind its fair share of wounds and marks, some worse than others, and it was a particular pair of agents that had her attention now.

Jet and Aquamarine had looked painfully young when she had dragged them out and dropped them more or less on the door step of the hospital. It was unlikely that they'd come to any mischief between there and the front door, but as before, she felt a responsibility for them. Once Cinnabar took responsibility, she did not give it up until the job was done. At the very least that meant she had to check on them and confirm they had made it through the gauntlet of the hospital intact. Once that was done, they could go on their merry way.

It had been sort of thrilling to issue her first summons as a General. Once, she would have never believed she'd do it. Working with other agents hadn't been comfortable or wanted, but the feel of power it gave her now was enjoyable. Rather than order them to her rooms, which would require Jet using up his energy teleporting, she set the meeting place at a spot down town that she knew of. An old bike shop that should be closed for the night and had a broad, flat roof. The meeting time wasn't too late, at 9:00 PM. Should give them time for all their family stuff, if they had them, and sneak out. They looked young enough to need it.

Boots grated on rooftop gravel as Cinnabar teleported in, appearing out of nowhere. Red and black eyes made a quick survey of the area for potential threats before she opened her senses, feeling for the tell tale shining aura of Order. Nothing felt close, which was good. Didn't need to be bringing them into any sort of ambush right off.

It was only a couple of weeks after the fiasco at the subway station and Aquamarine was more or less completely healed. Aside from an ugly scar on his side that would fade soon enough if he had anything to say about it, Aquamarine had little to show for being stabbed. In fact, if it wasn't for the distrust of his family and their frequent questions about the event, he could have forgotten about it entirely.

Upon receiving the summons, Aquamarine bristled with distaste. It was not General Cinnabar in particular he took issue with; she'd saved both him and Jet, after all, and so was deserving of his loyalty for that alone. It was that Aquamarine didn't take kindly to being summoned and ordered around when he desperately wanted to be the one summoning others and issuing out orders.

Even after his sacrifice at the subway station, he still had not earned his promotion. It galled him to be a rank below Jet, especially when Jet's promotion came with heavy sacrifices made on the part of Aquamarine and Seraphinite. It was they who kept Jet from getting himself killed in his overzealous attempts to eradicate the city of Senshi, yet neither of their efforts had been recognized by their superiors.

Aquamarine arrived following after Jet at exactly nine o'clock. He looked mildly put out, but made an effort not to let his feelings of jealousy and disappointment show. Perhaps if he behaved himself accordingly, Cinnabar would put in a good word for him.

“General,” Aquamarine greeted her. He was unsure whether he was supposed to salute or bow or show some other sign of deference, so he simply straightened his posture and tried to look as respectful as possible.

Jet was more than thrilled to get the summons from General Cinnabar. He had no idea what it was for, if it was to just check up on them or to reprimand them for not being able to hold their own in a fight, but regardless of what it was, he was eager and ready to face it head on. After all, if the General didn’t want to bother with them, she wouldn’t have called for them.

Thankfully both of them had healed substantially in the last couple weeks. Even Aquamarine was faring a lot better than he had been. That moment before General Cinnabar gave them the starseeds, Jet was concerned that his friend might very well die. That was obviously not the case now as they both went to meet the same General that saved them.

“General,” he greeted as well, and although he mimicked Aquamarine’s posture, he couldn’t hide all of his excitement, for better or worse. “Thank you for before. We owe you our lives,” he went on, despite knowing that Aquamarine probably didn’t want him speaking for him. But the General could easily kill them if she wanted. She was strong enough; it was both mesmerizing and terrifying.

The tall woman turned from her view of the city as she heard greetings from behind her and the warmth of Chaos signatures against her senses. The glow of city lights was abandoned in favor of two young faces that looked a far cry better than the last time she had seen them. Gone was the fear and pain. Wounds were healed, or nearly. They looked good and that was one less weight for her to carry.

"Aquamarine and Jet. Its good to see you again." She grinned as she paced towards them, her long coat sweeping around her knees. She walked with confidence as she approached and, when close enough, each got a hand clapped heavy to a shoulder and squeezed before she released them. Hands slid back into her pockets as the general settled into a more relaxed pose, hips cocked and tail idly curling behind her legs.

"You both look you're healing up well. I wanted to check on you, make sure you made it into and out of the hospital without incident. Did you have troubles with your families from it?" They both looked far too young to be on their own yet... and while she had never had to worry about it, she assumed there were questions that couldn't be answered, save as a deeply laid lie. She should have come up with something for them before leaving them to fend for themselves, but doing so on the fly was hard. Especially when your mind was on the battle behind you. Hopefully, they were as clever as they looked, though she wondered idly at the night and day difference between them. Did their looks mirror their personalities? It was hard to say.

"I'm not used to needing to pull someone out of a bad situation. Usually I'm the one being pulled. I suppose I'll have to get used to it, if I ever get subordinates."

Aquamarine stood rigidly in place, unsure what he was supposed to do.

Normally one might issue their thanks in a situation like this. After all, Cinnabar had saved them both. Looking back on that day, Aquamarine was sure now that he wouldn't have died whether or not they'd had any assistance, but Cinnabar had taken them both from the battlefield and brought them to a place where they could be treated for their respective injuries. It was a gesture worthy of the thanks Jet gave, yet Aquamarine found that he was unable to speak.

He was unused to being called before superior officers. For the most part, his time in the Negaverse had been spent either alone, or in the company of Jet and Seraphinite. They fought with and aided one another. They didn't seek the help or encouragement of officers of a higher rank. Aquamarine was sure their independence would warrant praise, but it left him woefully underprepared for this encounter. How was he supposed to stand? What was he supposed to say?

Aquamarine's attention narrowed on Cinnabar's question. That, at least, he could answer.

“My older brother was suspicious,” he said. “And overly concerned, but it's not anything I can't handle. He'll hound me about if for a couple of weeks, but eventually he'll leave it be and go back to being oblivious.”

He spared a brief look at Jet beside him, almost jealous by the ease with which Jet could get away with his own injuries. Certainly he had no one to bother him about them.

“Jet doesn't have a family to worry about,” Aquamarine announced.

General Cinnabar was both terrifying and awe inspiring for Jet. Somehow she’d ended up part youma, but that seemed to make her all the stronger. He definitely did not want to be on her bad side and enjoyed the thought of how many senshi she must have already dealt with. Maybe one day she would look at him as close to an equal, but for now he was content to just be around her.

Aquamarine answered first, but that didn’t dampen Jet’s mood. Even when he brought up the fact that he had no family, it didn’t seem to phase him. By this point he was used to it.

“My parents died when I was little. Captain Lignite was my brother,” he said, proud that he was able to hold back any sadness or regret from his voice. Even if the General had no idea who Lignite was, it should be clear by the use of past tense that he’d died as well.

“But Aquamarine is right. I don’t have any family to worry about making excuses to, so I can devote more of my time to the Negaverse.” A little overenthusiastic, maybe, but there were worse things. At least he wasn’t a senshi, and at least he hadn’t died the night his brother was killed.

“I would be honored to learn from you, General,” he said, hoping he didn’t sound so eager that she would rather not deal with him. “I’m sure you have a lot of experience and great advice to give us younger officers.”

It was curious, how different the two of them were. One with family, one without. One comfortable, even eager to see her, the other reserved and wary.

Aquamarine's wariness was easier to understand and relate to than the eyes Jet was making at her. To one had ever looked up to her before... it was a strange feeling. Was this what she had to look forward to now, as a General? People expecting her to be some sort of authority figure? Sobering thought. She hadn't thought of herself as worthy of being one... not when she had spent so long being the loner and the outcast.

"If your brother gives you too much trouble, or anyone really, about anything Negaverse related, you can call me." Cin said as she lifted her chin, a little half smile curling her lips. "Sometimes it helps to have someone back up your story and I would consider that within the scope of my responsibilities as a general."

Jet's enthusiasm drew her dark brows upwards and her smiled widened. "I suppose there is a thing or two I could probably teach you, if you wanted... or both of you, if Aquarmarine wanted to join in. How are you two at energy draining? Have you filled your quotas yet?"
