Laura probably should have been doing homework, what with school having started, but it was a nice enough day for some exploration. She was sitting on a bench in one of Destiny City's numerous parks, prized sketchbook in hand and eyes peeled for any interesting subjects. Eventually, she found one in the couple sitting on a different bench a distance away and promptly started drawing them. Though they appeared to just be sitting together in the sketch, she had plans for all manner of interesting things that could be surrounding them once she got the main body down. Doing just the city would be boring, but making the city burn down... no, that wasn't the mood she wanted at all. Maybe they could be staring at a space vista? Yes, that could work.

Hadaya was out and about on his own today, enjoying the quiet and, most importantly, all the lovely smells of food in the air. The park was always the best place for finding food, and people were generally happy to share something with him.
He was a very cute, small, stumpy ball of fluff, after all, and the master of a hopeful, perpetually starved look. Oddly, people did not seem to mind that he was very round and clearly well fed.
The cute worked in his favor.
Padding along the edge of the path, keeping close to the bushes and trees for cover just in case, he felt something strange, and looked around curiously. What was that feeling? He could not resist going toward it, to find the source, and saw a girl sitting on a bench, drawing.
Something about her...
He plopped down onto his butt suddenly, to watch her curiously for a long moment, but did not notice the sprinkler under his chosen sitting spot. He soon felt it, though, and he let out a yowl of surprise and pain as his poor little rump connected with the uncomfortable metal.

A distinctly feline yowl disrupted Laura's contemplation of what constellations should be in the space vista, and she turned around to directly face the source. There was indeed a very fluffy cat a short distance away, though she couldn't figure out what made him yowl like that. Maybe he got stung or bitten by something? She briefly considered leaving him be, but it was a very concerning noise and perhaps his owner would be looking for him. Cautiously, she approached Hadaya, keeping an eye out for any bugs or suspicious objects. "Here, kitty," she said softly.

Hadaya looked up at the young lady as she approached him. Okay, yes, he had done it in an embarrassing way, but at least he managed to get her attention and closed the distance between them without having to walk all the way over! And jumping up on to park benches was really hard for one with tiny legs.
He would count this as a win, rather than his usual fails. Or at least only a partial fail with an upside!
That feeling hit him again as he made eye contact with her, and he felt a strong warmth flowing through him. Oh, she was one of them! She was a senshi! He had never felt it like this before, and she was not even powered up! No, that could only mean one thing.
She had not been awakened yet!
Purring loudly, the sound coming out with a gentle coo on each breath, he bounced toward her and rubbed his round body against her leg.
"Hello!"

This cat definitely held Laura's attention. Round and fluffy, with a charm of his own... something about cats purring was so soothing. She was all set to put her sketchbook aside to reach down and pet him, but then she heard someone greeting her. It sounded like it was coming from the cat, but she couldn't be sure. Surely if it was coming from someone else, they'd try again. Besides, her brother and his friend had been at a concert where a very real monster had attacked (if the newish scar on Silas's leg was any indication). Would a talking cat really be so hard to believe? "Hello there," she said back to the cat, giving him a gentle scritch behind the ears. "Did something bite you? You don't have fleas, do you?"

Hadaya watched her. This strange feeling was not going away, lingering in the back of his head. He knew, just knew, that he was supposed to do something about this. She had to be a senshi, even if she did not seem to know it yet.
The easiest way for him to find out if someone was a senshi was to talk to them. Usually, the senshi already knew mauvians existed, thus a talking cat was easier to understand. Normal people did not take it quite as well.
Okay, it wasn't really a common tactic for him, as he did not like speaking to people if it posed him any kind of danger, but still. This one time, it seemed like a really good idea.
She needed to know what he was!
"Fleas?! No, of course not! I... I hope not. I sat on that metal thing," he turned his head over his shoulder, though it was hard to do when he was enjoying her scratching his ear so much. He looked back at her, though, eyes wide. "I think I have something for you."

"Metal thing?" Well, it was well and good that the cat didn't have fleas or other bugs. It was one less thing for Laura to worry about. She gave a quick look around for the object that the cat had plunked his furry butt on and found it quickly. "Oh, the sprinkler. That would hurt to sit on, wouldn't it. Your poor butt." She gave the cat a stroke down his back to punctuate the statement. "Something for me? Really? Hang around a little more and maybe I'll have something for you. Or whoever sent you. Whoever has a nice place for you to put it." She could probably whip up a handsome portrait of the fluffy cat quickly, she figured.

Hadaya's ears perked forward at the promise of getting a present. Oh, he loved getting things! Especially food! Food was probably his favorite thing in the world, in fact.
After his senshi, Navi, of course.
"Follow me!"
Hadaya had been so excited fHor this day: the first awakening he got to try! He was nervous, for sure, but as he skittered away from her, taking her from the path so they could be hidden a bit from view, he tried his best not to let his nerves get the best of him. He had heard so much about senshi and awakenings and the role of Guardian Cats.
This was his first chance to actually prove he could do all of that! He hoped, anyway, and this feeling that kept pulling him toward this girl was not just a fluke or a mistake. What if he was just willing this thing to happen, and when he did actually try it all blew up in his face or, worse, nothing happened at all?!
Or even worse, what if he was right about her being a senshi, but wasn't good enough to awaken her? Oh god.

"Just a moment, let me get my bag." After a quick scurry to grab her bag (everything was still in it- abandoning it in the first place for a cat was kind of foolish), Laura followed Hadaya off the path, her gaze occasionally flicking around to her surroundings. An idea came to her: maybe this cat was like the monster that attacked the concert? Maybe he would transform after leading her away. Her hands tensed around her bag, and she was totally ready to run if something took a turn for the sour. "How about this place? It's got enough space for... whatever you're planning."

Okay. This was it.
She was trusting enough to follow a talking cat: he could not let that trust be for nothing! He wanted to prove to her, and to himself, and to anyone that might later hear about this magical moment that he was just as much a Guardian Cat as anyone else. Even if he did have tiny legs, a lot of tub around the middle and a substantially inadequate sense of self esteem!
"Okay, this is good! Perfect! Can you come here? Just. Just watch, okay?"
Hadaya sat back, lifting himself up onto his back feet, like he thought it would probably go better if he was a bit taller. He was perfectly perched, due to the weight he had down at the bottom to keep him balanced. He closed his eyes, focusing on that feeling he had before. There it was, inside her, and the closer she got, the stronger it was. His little kitty forehead seemed to furrow in concentration, and the star on his forehead began to glow.
The light got stronger and stronger, and he felt her starseed, a power inside it, pulsing and calling to him. It was lucky he already had his eyes closed, because the light got too bright to keep them open anyway. When it faded, he had, resting on his little arms, against his chest, a henshin pen with a strange symbol on it.
He looked at it in surprise, then did his best to hold his paws out to her, though that tipped his balance and he plopped forward, flat on his stomach, the pen rolling toward her instead. He decided not to get up right away, feeling tired and a little dizzy.
"Hold that," he said, mostly into the dirt, "and say 'Porrima Power, Make Up!'"
Should he have explained more about what was going to happen here? It was probably fine... he would have time in a second... right?

The cat's flopping made Laura giggle. The rolling of the pen was quite accurate, making her wonder if that had been on purpose. She scooped it up and inspected it closely, staring at the symbol etched on it: two scales, like the Scales of Justice. "A pen? How thoughtful. I could always use extras. I'll make sure to keep this one around at all times." Gifts from magical cats merited special attention. Grasping the pen carefully, she did as Hadaya requested. "Porrima Power, Make-Up!" A flash of white light and ribbons of royal purples surrounded her, and in the artsy girl's place stood a newly-minted senshi. There was an awkward pause as Laura-now-Porrima tried to process what just happened, touching the various parts of her new outfit. She was literally ooh-ing and ahh-ing over her fuku, pulling on her skirt and her sailor collar and trying to pull up the bodice a bit (she didn't mind cleavage; women in her family tended to be decently endowed, so it was sort of a fact of life, but sometimes adjustments were needed). "I could get used to this," she said, finally letting her fuku go for a second. "But where are my other clothes, and my sketchpad, and my bag? I need those."

"Oh, you look amazing! Hello Porrima!! Oh, look at you! You did it! I did it! Yay, it all worked out!"
Not that Hadaya had any reason to doubt that it would. Mostly. Probably. Sure, he tended to mess things up a lot and he was worried his pen producing skills were not up to snuff but, as it turned out, he was actually pretty okay at this awakening thing so far! It was a delight, and a solid boost to his generally low self esteem.
But he couldn't let it get to his head, as life had a way of immediately reminding him that he was not destined to be good at anything.
Hadaya rubbed his little head and body against her, purring up a storm as he did so, pacing back and forth to keep leaning the length of his body against her in a desperate attempt to show her how happy he was.
"You still have all those! If you think about going back to the way you were, powering down, you'll do it! You can do it any time you want! But be careful when you do, you don't want anyone to know you're a senshi now! It's supposed to be a secret, like a super hero! And that's what you are. A hero, that protects the city from evil, and the worst evil of all: Chaos!"

Porrima chuckled and bent down to scratch the happy cat behind the ears. "Of course it worked. You're a magic cat. Why wouldn't it work?" She listened to Hadaya's explanation, and her face grew serious. "A senshi... okay. Why is it supposed to be a secret? I think my brother would at least like to know. And I take it that Chaos isn't just general disorder?" The idea of being a defender of justice was both intriguing and unnerving. It meant a whole new life to explore, and yet it also meant danger that she had never put herself in before. Surely learning more about this mysterious other side to the city that she had been plunged into would be worth some cuts and bruises?

"Ah... well..."
He would have to explain to her that he was basically terrible at everything, and anything he tried to do usually ended up going horribly wrong. The last thing he wanted to do was make her think he was as terrible as... well... he honestly was, though lying as not an option for him.
Instead, he could just... change the subject!
"Senshi," he said, taking a breath and holding his head up as proudly as a very stubby, very tubby kitty could manage. "Are supposed to defend the city, but most people don't understand what they are. This war is a secret, and it's best for everyone if it stays that way. Beyond that, the evil force of Chaos would use your identity and anyone you might care about against you, if they ever find out who you are when you're not powered up. But the magic protects you! No one, even your closest friend, will recognize you when you power up!"

"A secret war... it sounds so mysterious when you put it that way. Even more mysterious, I mean." Porrima straightened up and gave the bottom of her skirt an idle tug. "I see... so I shouldn't power up around people, because if there's Chaos in the area, they might see me and find out how to hurt me at home. Is there any way to know for sure if a person is with Chaos, or do I have to guess and be very careful?" It would help to know what to look for in terms of threats; there was definitely going to be danger, so identifying it would be a great boon in, well, not getting killed.
