Private RP between Novablu's Ciaran and Yumitoko II's Tarou

Twilight descended upon a murky forest, tree thickly planted together, limbs crackling and brushing together, slowly baring their leaves as autumn was soon among them. A thick blanket of fog cascaded between the trees, from the summer’s heat vanishing almost too quickly to be possible, leaving behind a bit of a chill--as well as the fog. And fog wasn’t good… Not good at all. Fog meant you couldn’t see what lingered in the shadows, and Ciaran knew better than anyone else what lingered in those shadows. The inky, demonic creatures that hunted him day in and day out, hiding in his own shadow, baring their claws when no one else was looking. There wasn’t much the kalona-angeni stallion feared, but the shadows? They were of his nightmares.

Ears pinned flat against his head, he let out a low squeal and bolted between the trees, picking up the pace at a quick but lopsided gallop that was caused, partially due to blind panic as the youth seeked out the darkness, where it was the safest, and partially because of the wound that laced up his leg from a run in with a couple of… Well. Not so friendly kalona. Ciaran didn’t know friend from foe--ultimately ending in a fight. His first, if you didn’t count the times he and his kalona blooded brothers scrapped and scuffled.

He’d lost. He was young and while he was large, he was built wiry and lean, a runner not a fighter, plus it had been three against one. They’d roughed him up. It could’ve been worse, but the wound going from shoulder to hock was deep, a slash from a wing-tip, and it throbbed with each beat of his heart. Likely infected, or getting there, which wasn’t a good thing. He just… Couldn’t find his way back home. Couldn’t find his way to Kaiya and Constantine. He was utterly lost in the woods, surrounded by shadows that lurked at his consciousness. Nightmares that threatened to drag him under the surface, to pin and cage him there.

He crashed through the forest, making plenty of noise as he moved, his pupilless eyes wide as he snorted and puffed, coat damp with sweat. He hadn’t slept. Not in a few days. He couldn’t sleep, couldn’t close his eyes. They might catch him. If only he knew that the monsters within his mind couldn’t harm him. Not physically. Breathing out a short breath, Ciaran slowed at the scent of something--someone, male and musky and dangerous. A bear? He froze, tail lashing side to side, spade tip dragging across the dirt as he tried to swallow back his fear. What was he afraid of? He wasn’t sure--just that it seemed to be a never-ending constant for the young stallion.

Going completely still, he flared his wings and tried to make himself as large and intimidating as possible as the crunch of grass underfoot came closer. He forced his jaws to clench shut, eyes scanning the darkness… Had they finally come to get him?

Evening descended upon the sky as Tarou wandered heavily footed, it was his night off and he was looking for entertainment. Now was not the time for him to creep, to scare or to take a life, he could relax but he often found himself to be quieter footed by nature, even if he was trying not to blend in with his soundings. He slipped through the crisp flora of the forest, having time off meant he would not have to mask his natural scent or have his guard up. Tarou weaved surefootedly through the trees, he wanted to explore the new surroundings. What could he see, who would be meet, these were questions lingering in his mind. He was not looking for trouble tonight but would often find himself in it, he hoped this area might be different although he wasn't too sure.

Tarou's ears perked as he headed towards the sounds of another individual. Said individual was a big stallion but the stallion seemed spooked by something and began to move. He wasn't entirely sure if it was himself the stallion was afraid of or something else lurking but he decided to follow the scared stallion as if he was his prey, he was a predator after all.

'Where's he going?'
He wondered to himself as he followed, not a word was spoken in person, only his thoughts began to speak. His eyes fixed on the stallion's leg, from this angle he couldn't tell his age be he thought,'this one's injured.' As he paced himself to keep up he listened to the stallions elevated breathing. He could smell dried blood.

Tarou tried to pice together some words in the native tongue but struggled a little,"why run?" He asked in a smooth voice, he could not hear the foreign enunciation on his own voice but he knew locals were sure to catch it. He would not speak too much as he was still learning the language. He stepped out of the shadows the see the stallion now flaring his wings. Tarou's tail trailed behind him and momentarily swayed from one side to another, stroking the flowers with it as he passed them. "You okay?"

'Someone's scared', he thought to himself,'very scared.'

Yumitoko II

Ciaran stiffened as footsteps—no…pawsteps—sounded near him. Following him. His heart seemed to freeze up as his nostrils flared, scenting…bear? At least, he was pretty sure it was bear. So not a good thing. Bears were vicious enough, but the possibility of it being a bearwalker? And he was wounded, the wound having torn open from his reckless flight through the woods. Leathery wings flared out as if to make him seem bigger, because the massive shadow that crept towards him made the large angeni-kalona stallion seem like a twink in comparison. His ears flattened flat against his skull as he stared at the newcomer; in the darkness of the woods, he could only see the furry outline of the stranger, the sound of rustling fabric and fur. God, he was so dead…

He poised there for a long and breathless moment as the creature drew near and then stopped. Was it…going to attack? The scent of musk—male—touched his nose. He swallowed and turned pupilless eyes on the beast. And just as he thought his time was up, the mutant spoke to him in a soft voice, complete with an accent that Ciaran had never heard before. His tail lashed nervously, skating across the ground as he stood very still. “You don’t see them,” he murmured, voice hushed, as if those inky creatures might come up and strangle him at any given time. /No one/ ever seemed to see them. As if they were a dangerous figment of Ciaran’s imagination. Maybe it was because he was a little bit addled, the blood in his veins twisted from the light of the Blood moon. “No one ever sees them…”

But…even with the fog, this other male was strong. That much was apparent. Maybe… Maybe, if he was friendly or at least a neutral sort of guy, Ciaran could escape the nightmares under the able paws of this creature. A savior in the darkness? Was such a thing true? “They live in the shadows.” He quirked his ears up and sidled a little closer, back leg favored as he limped. He slowly sniffed the fur of the large white beast, seeing hints of blue to his pelt. “I-I think you could take them, though. You look rather fierce…” When he was asked if he was okay—a question not normally offered to the hybrid—Ciaran’s eyes widened and his head cocked to one side, almost canine. “I’m lost,” he admitted in a soft, almost sheepish voice, his boyishness showing through. “I got caught up with a couple of kalona.” He dipped his head, sidling a little closer still, until he could feel the heat of the stallion. So warm…

“Are you going to eat me?” The question was spoken simply. “Because…if you are, can you hurry up and just do it and leave my remains in a place where my friends might find me. I wouldn’t want to disappear. They deserve closure. It’s the least you could do…” He smiled, a little strangely, toothily. It was apparent he was exhausted from the run, from the wound teeming with infection. And if he was going to die, well… Might as well get it over with.
