He was supposed to be feeding but somehow the Sigel could not find the mood to do so today. Lazarus’s growth had placed the Sigel into a reflective mode. While everything had turned out alright in the end, the Sigel still felt that there were issues to be addressed. Mostly concerning how he had behaved throughout the ordeal. "He made you! He made all of us! Without him, you and I won't ever exist. Don't you have an inkling of respect for him? Are you ever thankful for him?"
"You're lying! Actions speak louder than words! Kyou had been here a whole year, A WHOLE YEAR! And you never stepped foot in this room before today. You're my boyfriend, how could you do this??Whatever he did to you to deserve this?!" The white Sigel winced at the memory. Despite it all, those words did not soften over time and every time the memory resurfaced, it felt like a sharp stab in the heart. The white Sigel shook his head. He had been told that all of this was now nothing more than water under the bridge but still, at the core, there was a grain of truth in it. His behaviour had been disgraceful. “I’m sorry…,” murmured Xiu to no one in particular.

While Henry was nervous and silently didn’t approve of it, it was finally decided that Ethiriel was ready to go out on her own. At first, the nurse suggested he go with and watch as they walked around the park, but Ethiriel wanted her own time. Pouting, the man finally agreed. With it being overcast with a nice breeze, Henry didn’t have to worry about Ethiriel overheating or getting burned… and, of course, she’d have Nedhudir with her. He couldn’t get over the initial worry but she had his cell number if anything were to happen.
The walk to the park was mostly uneventful, save for some flustering honks and jeers Ethiriel had received along the way, but she kept her attention on the earbuds in her ear giving directions. Nedhudir kept her focused as well, gently pulling her along the way.
From their point of entry, Xiu was on the far end of the park and the Frei had yet to catch his scent, so most of that journey was uneventful as well. People passed her easily as they jogged past, but the Frei only paid attention to the air around her – part of her felt like it was going to rain soon, but in all honesty she wouldn’t have minded; just another snack, in her mind.
Closer to the Sigel, Ethiriel finally caught his scent and her attention shifted. He, nor anyone else in the park, had silver on so she couldn’t pinpoint his location exactly, but his apology to seemingly no one caught her once she was close enough to hear.
She paused, pulling the collie into a sudden stop. Blindly, she looked around to smell the air as well as notice if he would speak again. Either way, she was sure he’d have noticed, or would have, sooner than later. However, she continued to fruitlessly scan the area. He was a strange mix of scents; blood, she recognized, and something feral – like an animal. She couldn’t quite place it, but she definitely recognized the combination as Raevan.
”Hello?” Ethiriel called, her voice light against the wind.

”Hello?”Xiu glanced up, startled by the sudden greeting. He had not heard anyone approaching save for the pattering of canine feet. Now the Sigel knew why. Blue eyes stared curiously at the Raevan and dog before him. He had not met this Raevan before and she seemed pretty calm and collected with the collie by her side. Not a newborn frei then. “Hello,” replied Xiu as he hastily rose to greet the other. “Sorry, I did not notice you earlier. I let my thoughts get the better of me sometimes,” But now that they were floating face to face, Xiu took the opportunity to quickly observe the other. If someone could have written a Tolkien character into life, this raevan before him would certainly be a prime example. Distinctively elven in appearances, the silver branches that adorned her hair and grew gracefully from her back in place of wings reminded the Sigel of the white trees mentioned in Tolkien lore. But what caught the Sigel’s attention were the frei’s eyes. Unlike other raevans he had met, the Frei’s gaze was cloudy. Blind? Thought Xiu as he cast a quick glance to her canine companion. That would certainly explain the collie’s presence. Was she born this way or did something… The Sigel realized he had been stunned speechless for several seconds. “My name is Xiu, m-may I know yours?”

”All is well,” Ethiriel said in response. ”Everybody has their days; I suppose today is yours.”
She offered a gentle smile.
As Xiu had guessed, she stared blindly in his general direction as he approached. His light colors stood out just barely in Ethiriel’s eternal darkness, and she was glad that she had at least a small vantage point. The smell of blood was stronger now that he was close, but it wasn’t necessarily unpleasant. She offered a hand as she gave a small bow of her head.
”A pleasure to meet you, Sir Xiu. I am Ethiriel, and this is Nedhudir. Always pleasant meeting others.”

NeonMace No worries! As long as we enjoy the RP! “Sir… that is something I have not been called in a long while,” said the Sigel with a soft smile as he recalled his time with LuLu and the day they had spent at the country fair. But when he had next met the bunny frei… That was a memory that disturbed the Sigel greatly. The dark night, the deserted alleyway, the choking… And what he did and did not do to help his friend. And what he did and did not do to help Lazarus… “But it is a designation I am undeserving of,” continued the Sigel briefly. “Just Xiu would be fine,” Perhaps it was the meeting of another raevan or perhaps it was even Ethiriel’s gentle smile; but the white Sigel found himself relaxing in the Frei’s presence. There just an aura of peace and serenity emanating from the other. Once again the Sigel was reminded of the description of an Elven wood from Tolkien’s middle earth saga. He really should stop…associating the poor frei with Tolkien. But it was hard, especially after the Raevan had introduced herself and her hound as Ethiriel and Nedhudir respectively. “Were your names perhaps…inspired by something? A book perhaps?” the Sigel asked curiously.

So similar… Yes, Cesc had said something along the same lines when they first met at that wedding. Ethiriel’s brow twitched at the sudden memory; she hated how… hollow the stag had been when they first met. With time he had improved, and he had been the one to catch her when it was her turn to fall. Way too similar, even just for words.
”If that is what you wish,” said the tea Frei, dipping her head in a small bow. She offered her free hand for the male Sigel to take. ”Once again, it is a pleasure to meet you, Xiu.”
Ethiriel perked as her name was commented on, lifting her chin from her bow. ”Unfortunately, I do not have an answer for that. I do not know what my original guardian was thinking upon naming me, but everyone seems to think it is a good fit.”
Her answer was precise and her voice calm – there was no malice in her words but she didn’t seem jovial about it in the least. She was over Leo and everything to do with him, so why did it bother her? It was far too late to change her name comfortably, and the thought never occurred to her before now. No, she would keep it, even if it held bad memories.
She would just need to move on.
”And you, might I ask? Do you know the origin of your name?”

Xiu took the offered hand and gave it a warm shake. Ethiriel’s hand felt soft and smooth to the touch; not that the Sigel himself did any hard labour. It was just…one of those things that one notices. “The pleasure’s all mine,” replied the Sigel. When the Frei next spoke about the origin of her name, the comment about being named by her “original” guardian did not escape the Sigel’s notice. Briefly Xiu wondered what had happened. A rehoming? He had heard of that happening amongst Raevans sometimes; usually freis and that angered the Sigel. Did the humans think that Raevans were pets or something? To be rehomed on a whim? Without quite realizing it, the Sigel’s grip tightened over the Frei’s hand and it was only when he felt Ethiriel trying to break the grip that the Sigel realized what he had done. “I’m really sorry!” exclaimed the Sigel with dismay as he quickly released his grip. “You aren’t hurt, are you?” The Sigel floated awkwardly for a moment before remembering that Ethiriel had asked about the origin of his name. “It was a spur of the moment thing, if my guardian is to be believed,” said Xiu sheepishly. “According to Hazeline, it just…came,” “Which is a lot better than the name her brother had in mind,” said Xiu with a shake of his head. “A second later and I would be named Grand Master Dragon Slayer,”

While uncomfortable, Xiu’s grip didn’t cause much discomfort for Ethiriel and she made no attempt to pull away until the Sigel sheepishly retracted his hand. ”There is no harm, no need for apologies,” she said comfortingly. She didn’t get to do her preferred greeting now that there was no physical contact between them, but perhaps he wouldn’t have wanted it anyway. Nowadays, the Frei couldn’t tell with other peoples’ comfort zones.
”I see. From what I can remember, Sir Leonard seemed to have come up with the name on the spot. I have come to understand that some often have a hard time giving titles to others before seeing them prior. Perhaps it is the same for both of us.”
Xiu’s quip about Hazeline’s brother missed its mark with Ethiriel, but in polite measure she smiled and gave a soft chuckle. In a way, it went over her head but with how the Pi Yao said it, she knew it was meant to be humorous – she needed to work on that, she knew.
With her smile intact, Ethiriel tilted her head slightly to the side. ”Is this not beautiful weather? A perfect day for an outing – at least, for me it is. What finds you out and about today?”

Sir Leonard. Xiu took note of the honorific used by Ethiriel. Was it that man’s title or was Ethiriel merely being polite. It was hard to tell. Xiu had never heard of a raevan referring to their guardian as such before. But then again this was the person who had decided to rehome the charming raevan before him. Perhaps Ethiriel was using the prefix as a form of distancing herself from her past. It made sense but it still made the Sigel wonder at the nature of the separation. But it was probably a sensitive subject to touch, seeing that they have only just met. When Ethiriel chuckled at the mention of “Grand Master Dragon Slayer", the Sigel found himself smiling as well. Ethiriel looked beautiful when she smiled. At Ethiriel’s comment on the weather, Xiu found himself nodding before realizing that the Raevan before him is unable to see the gesture “Yes, it is,” said Xiu in agreement “And I often come here to feed,” “Or at least try to,” said Xiu with a shrug. “Sometimes I come here to be alone with my thoughts; not that your presence is unwelcomed,” added Xiu hurriedly. “It is a rare sight to meet another raevan in this part of the neighbourhood and it is always a pleasure to meet another of our kind, wouldn't you agree?”

Ethiriel’s brow raised; she could somewhat feed on the sunlight, just enough to pass as a light snack, and immediately she wondered what Xiu could possibly eat. Was it rude of her to ask? She never felt bothered when others enquired about her soul or essence, but now that she was coming to understand boundaries and others better, was it actually insulting? She lightly bit her lip and continued onward with conversation.
”I am glad to know that I am not unwelcomed,” she said, giving her voice a little lilt in attempts to make it more light hearted. Nodding, Ethiriel smiled. ”Always a pleasure meeting others of our kind, for sure. I was not expecting to run into another today, so that makes this day quite special.
“Would you care to walk with Nedhudir and I? He gets rather restless standing still, though you would not guess from looking at him.”

At the mention of the Collie, Xiu gave the dog a curious glance. It was just as Ethiriel had said, the creature showed no sign of wanting to run off and gambol with the others in the park but when Ethiriel moved, the dog was instantly on its feet and ready to go. “I would love a walk,” replied Xiu as he got up and floated beside the gentle frei. Being a frequent visitor to the park, Xiu knew most of the park grounds like the back of his hand but was at ease with letting Ethiriel and Nedhudir lead the way. As the trio traversed the landscape in quiet camaraderie, Xiu let out a soft sigh. While he would have been more than happy to forget the incident at the lab, nevertheless the memories were starting to creep in again. Lost in this reverie, Xiu failed to notice that he had fallen into sullen silence.

Once their walk went underway, the silence went mostly unnoticed by Ethiriel – she quite enjoyed a companionable quiet when it came to friends, but something felt off with Xiu. She wasn’t always quick on the draw when it came to others, but the Sigel’s subtle movements weren’t missed. Luckily for him, the Frei’s pheromones did ease his discomfort, even if just a little.
”It is none of my business and I apologize for intruding, but is everything alright, Xiu? You do not have to answer as I am merely a stranger, but I wish for your comfort.”
Normally she would have linked arms with her companions, but Nedhudir paced along between them to make sure Ethiriel wouldn’t fall off the path or wander away. However, she did offer a sideways glance to Xiu, and to her luck his light colors made it easier to find something to anchor herself on.

When Ethiriel enquired if everything is alright, the white Sigel seemed to weigh his options. While is it true that the both of them had just met, Ethiriel seemed like a nice raevan who was genuinely concerned about him. But then again, it would be wrong to burden a new friend with his troubles… Finally the Sigel made a decision. He would give a general overview of his thoughts while the nitty-gritty issues could be omitted. Perhaps an outside opinion might be worth listening to. Especially if one could not make up one’s own mind. “I am unhappy because I did not do right by my friend. My actions were callous and my thoughts appalling. I was…not there when he needed me to be,” said Xiu agitatedly. It felt good being able to confide in someone but Ethiriel would probably think him a brute now. “And while the outcome of the matter has been satisfactorily resolved, I am afraid that my pathetic endeavour still haunts me. And yet, I am reluctant to face up to the consequence of my actions,” said Xiu with a shake of his head. “In books, this would be the part where someone slaps some sense into the foolish character,” said Xiu humourlessly. “And knowing this does not make it any better,”

The silver Frei listened carefully as Xiu vaguely poured his soul out and she looked straight ahead. Occasionally nodding her head, once he was finished, she finally turned her head toward him with a gentle smile. It wasn't until he compared life to a book that she chuckled lightly and pat his arm.
"Perhaps it is," she mused, returning her mostly-sightless gaze before them. "You are aware of your misgivings, however, and I believe that, that is a good sign. You fear facing your consequences -- that is not an uncommon thing, especially when it comes to those who are dear. However..."
Tilting her head, Ethiriel continued, "If you are never to face them, you may lose that friend. Weighing your consequences and priorities is important. I believe you will make the right decision, even if we do not properly know one another.
"Perhaps this is the "slap in the face" you need?"
