Emilja is the third Holst daughter of six, from a large farm a few hours outside of Destiny City. After her two eldest sisters married and started their families, her father finally agreed to let her move to the city and study at the local university. Considered somewhat of a rebel by her family because of her pursuits into the modern world, she is still an old soul that doesn’t quite fit in with the typical young twenty-something. She is very proud of her upbringing and though she has adjusted well to the city life, she still goes home some weekends and every holiday to be with her sisters and her family. There’s just something about fresh country air and the feel of the soil between her toes that Destiny City will never really replace.
Hobbies: Wood working - Emilja enjoys hobbies that give her a lot of alone time and simultaneously allow her to work with her hands. She finds something calming in the ability to design and craft objects from scratch, even more so when those objects can be used for everyday purposes. Only suckers buy anything from IKEA.
Gardening - Although somewhat more delicate than wood working, gardening provides many of the same qualities. It is primarily a hobby she picked up from her mother, whose gardens have won many awards over the years. Though she does not compete like Mrs Holst, she boasts a green thumb and finds peace in growing a bit of green in her tiny backyard at the center of a bustling city.
Humane Society - Having been born and raised on a farm, Emi has a soft spot for animals, especially those in need. She devotes several hours a week to volunteering at the local Humane Society and even fosters special needs animals for rehabilitation purposes.
Virtues: Patient - It is a very rare occasion when Emilja gets upset at a long line or someone that needs a few extra minutes at check-out. She has broken wild mustangs, rehabilitated abused animals, and shared a bathroom with at least five other girls her entire life. There is no one she is not willing to teach, no line she is not willing to wait through, and no situation she believes is too hard to overcome given time.
Kind - It just isn’t in Emi to be rude or mean to anyone, especially without cause. Though she would never call herself a saint, she does her very best to treat others the way she wishes to be treated - exactly as her mother taught her. She would give someone the shirt off of her back if she thought they needed it more than she did and never bat an eyelash at doing someone a favor, so long as it didn’t conflict with her morals.
Reserved - Though she is a bright ray of sunshine in situations and with people she is familiar with, she tends to hold herself back in public - especially around strangers. She is polite, quiet, and respectful to everyone until they give her a reason to be otherwise, for the best or the worst. Friends are more likely to see her passions, but also her temper.
Independent - Though she is more than happy to help others at any time, whether or not they ask, it is unlikely that Emilja would ever seek out the aid or attention of others. She believes in herself and her own abilities to do anything, whether it’s something as simple as homework or as difficult as climbing Mount Everest. She doesn’t complain about any task, no matter how hard, and believes that with a little patience she can accomplish anything. It’s not always true, but it would take a close friend to recognize when she truly needed help.
Flaws: Loner - Emilja isn’t antisocial, exactly, but she takes great comfort in being left alone to her own devices. She doesn’t enjoy crowds or large groups and can become tense and anxious if she starts to feel like she’s being overwhelmed by the people around her. She naturally seeks out less crowded parts of society and spends a lot of time alone with her hobbies. That’s not to say that she doesn’t love her friends, but she would prefer one or two close friends to a room of acquaintances.
Awkward - Given her rural upbringing and somewhat antiquated lifestyle, Emi isn’t really a modern social butterfly. She gets nervous in large groups of people and sometimes doesn’t know what to say when the conversation revolves around something unfamiliar. If she doesn’t devolve into complete silence for lack of knowing what to say, she’ll often end up with her foot in her mouth and a few weird stares in her direction.
Proud - She takes great pride in who and what she is, to the point that she boasts about it. She believes in her rural upbringing above the social, modern butterfly and won’t hesitate to tell others that they need less technology and a little more hard work in their life. Insulting her family or her heritage is the easiest way to earn her ire and she may unintentionally offend others with her defense of it.
Technologically Inept - Unsurprisingly, a life on the farm didn’t really prepare Emi for the modern world. Though she has conquered the cell phone, she still doesn’t spend much time on it and only pays for the most basic service. Computers are useless to her beyond Microsoft word and Minesweeper, of which she is particularly fond. She stumbles her way through ‘googling’ and makes a disgruntled face at anyone that tells her she should be on ‘the facebook’. It leaves her a bit disconnected from society and often an outsider in many modern conversations.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONMy ‘vision’ for Emilja is
Louise Pedersen’s face. She is 5’11’ with broad shoulders and thick muscle from years of hard labor and farm work. Though she has wide hips to balance out her shoulders, she has a small bust line, and she is not what one would consider ‘feminine’ exactly. She’s more of a hard working tomboy and a bit rough around the edges.
Eyes: Forest green
Skin: Healthy tan, though keep in mind she is from a heritage of relatively fair skin and wouldn't be super dark.
Hair: Rusty dark red, done similar in style and color to
this, but with only the one long thick braid included. The side of her head should just be shaved down to a fuzz instead of all the tiny braids.
