Quinn glanced down at his phone, the read out said ten till one which meant he still had a few more minutes to make it to the cafe. He had spent too long in the shower again and he still felt dirty. It was a mental thing caused by the train youma but even knowing this Quinn couldn't help but to spend more time than necessary under the spray of hot water. Another glance at the phone had him speeding up until he was practically jogging down the sidewalk. He didn't want to be late. It wasn't like he knew these girls all that much but they were Delilah's friends and pissing them off would not make his relationship with her any smoother. He came to a stop in front of a small sidewalk cafe, it was actually the cafe he had run into Mathias.... Literally. Quinn had been chasing after his cat when the cat ran into and tipped over Mathias' art setup he had going. Quinn bought him lunch as payment and during the course of the meal found out the guy he just met was Delilah's cousin. If he didn't know better he would have wondered just what kind of cosmic joke the fates were setting him up for but it wasn't like Isis had slipped her leash on purpose... Well she did but in the prosuite of a squirrel not some destiny crap. The wrought iron fence indicated the cafe's outside seating area, the handful of tables were full with people stuffing their faces with a late lunch. That meant they would be eating inside if the girls hadn't already beaten him there. Since the day was warm with a cool breeze it would be a shame to be stuck in a crowded building when they could have been seated outside in the sun. If only he hadn't taken so damn long. Still a little winded, his ribs still hurt like hell after the train battle, he walked up to the hostess and asked if either of the others in his group had shown up yet. ((You guys can either be at the cafe or arrive at the same time Quinn does ^.^))

Inside the cafe, Mei sat at one of the booths lining the storefront window. It was nice enough outside, why not enjoy the weather while it lasted? Nursing her pumpkin spice chai tea latte she glanced up when the bell jingled and a dusty blond haired man stepped inside. A few weeks had passed since she had last spent some time with Quinn and Delilah; regardless, he was a hard person to miss. “Hey!” Mei set her book down and pushed it to the side of the table. Raising one hand she signaled him to get his attention.

Late, late, late, late, late, late! She was going to be late! Mercy was walking at a super fast pace (ladies do not run unless it is an emergency) and she was trying to make up time. She should have known better than to get off two stops ahead of where she needed to be. She swore one of these days she was going to memorize bus routes - but until that day she was stuck at the whims of weather or not she remembered her proper stop. Granted she could have just GPS'd the place on her phone like she was walking there but that might have taken forever! So instead she'd thrown caution to the wind and now she was power walking her way down the sidewalk toward the cafe. She fixed her hair quickly, pulling the long rust-red locks into a ponytail before smoothing down her skirt and making sure he blouse looked okay. Sensible flats today - seeing as there was going to be walking involved and she was taking the bus. She had LEARNED the folly of heels and long walks in the city. Looking at her phone she winced and quickened her pace a bit, noticing Quinn just as he went into the establishment. She hoped she wasn't the last one there. Moving quickly, she slipped inside the Cafe after Quinn, and decided she'd just follow him to whatever table he went.

Before the hostess could answer a light haired young lady gave a holler. "Oh hey," he waved back before giving the hostess a smile, "well never mind. There is one of them now. Just a heads up, it looks like we are waiting on one more," he did a quick glance around and didn't see the younger girl so she had to still be on her way. Quinn hadn't been able to weave past more than one table before the door opened behind him and when he glanced back he spotted Mercy. "Hey short stuff." He smiled and gesture for her to hurry up. Unlike with Mei he had a bit more personal interaction with the teen from the time she worked at and shopped at The Bookwyrm. Although both girls were more Delilah's friends then his but then again that was the whole point of this meeting. Finally making reaching the table that Mei had grabbed Quinn pulled out one of the chairs for Mercy before flopping down himself. Those last few blocks had really set the bruise across his chest on fire and he wondered if it was worth researching some home remedies since the meds weren't helping much. Quinn covertly rubbed his sore ribs before scooping up one of the small menus sitting on the table. He eyed Mei's drink and smirked, "pumpkin spice? Cliche dear, cliche. Personally don't get the whole chai tea fad and add in the pumpkin spice and you're halfway to being a stereotype." He smiled and added, "nah just messing with you. Oh and the sandwiches here are pretty damn good."

“Hmm.” Mei raised an eyebrow at Quinn as if asking ‘oh really?’ “Tell that to someone who has spent nine months waiting for this to come back in season. Plus it’s a good alternative for someone like me who doesn’t care much for coffee.” she poked back at him in a jesting manner. Pumpkin spice and Salted Caramel drinks were two the best things about Fall; that is, aside from the beautiful colorful trees lining the streets of Destiny City. “Drinks aside, you’re right about their sandwiches. The panini’s here are amazing!” Something she could attest to first hand having been here a few times before. “Might I suggest either their Bacon, Cheddar, Grilled Tomato or their Chicken Panini with Olives and Artichokes?” Not that she hadn’t already been in a relatively good mood, the corners of Mei’s lips lifted into a grin when their third guest, who she assumed to be one of Delilah’s other friends, sat down beside Quinn. “Hello,” she greeted warmly while reaching out her hand in kind gesture. “My name is Mei!”

If it were possible to feel more out of place in an instant, Mercy didn't know. "Thank you, Mr. Quinn." She said as she sat down in the chair that Quinn had pulled out for her. It was very nice of him - he really needn't have bothered. But the banter between him and Mei alerted her to the fact that she was the stranger here. She smiled politely and took Mei's hand with a small nod. "I'm Mercy, it's very nice to meet you Ms. Mei." She said with a small - almost sheepish voice. They were both older than her, so she was going to do her best to be polite and listen. She had only just gotten to know Delilah, but she still counted her as one of her best friends - but she was probably going to take a back seat to her... real friends. "I'll probably have tea myself.. Though that bacon, cheddar, and grilled tomato sounds really good." With that she kept her eyes focused on either Mei or Quinn, depending on who was speaking.

Quinn made a face at Mei, "what no overly frilly drinks for you like the mocha, frappe, choco, pep, skim milk, espresso?" He just mashed words the together with a chuckle. "If you like the flavor so much why not get it year round. Someone has to make that s**t the other nine months." He eyed Mei's drink and mentally added, and if they didn't they should since it's so damn popular."Gah, you just have to go overboard with everything don't you. What's wrong with the simple BLT or the turkey club?" He poked fun at Mei's suggestions as he did a quick glance of the menu and settled on the turkey club. Quinn was enjoying messing with Mei but he knew they would have to settle down to the topic at hand soon, just not quite yet. Food first, planing later. "Hey Mercy, you know you can just call me Quinn. No mister, no hey you, no sir... Just good old plan Quinn." He said with a smile as he tapped her on the head with a menu. "I'm no mister. A pain yes but no mister. Anyway get what you want guys, I'll foot the bill." That last part was directed at both ladies as a waitress strolled up ready to take their orders. He quickly relayed his selection and once all the orders were taken turned his attention to the reason he asked both the girls to the cafe. "So all joking aside I would like your help with something. Delilah's birthday is coming up this weekend and I kinda want to do a party but not sure the best way to go about it." It would be her first birthday since they started dating and Quinn wanted to do something more than just a simple gift. As it was he was waffling on what to get her; a necklace or some other type of jewelry, or a trip since he figured time away from the city would be more than appreciated especially after the literal train wreck that he was still sore from. Damn negaverse and their stupid a** plots.

“Well…” Mei set her menu down and sat back in her seat. “She has a thing for heights though I’m not sure if that spills over into extreme sports like skydiving or bungee jumping. Perhaps something like a high ropes obstacle course or zipline adventure?” Pondering what other activities Delilah enjoyed, Mei tapped her index finger against her lips contemplating with other things they might be able to do. “I know she enjoys drawing a lot; if she hasn’t shown you her collection of sketch books yet you should ask to see them.” How far he artistic interest stretched beyond sketching was still a bit of a mystery. “We could always look into what kind of workshops might be going on that weekend? I know of a few painting ones and a glass blowing but I’m not sure how in advance we need to schedule them.”With a bit of a shrug and a lopsided grin she looked to Mercy to get her opinion but not before pulling a pen out of her side bag and scribbling a note on the back side of her napkin.

"Mr. Quinn," Mercy said in the sweetest most polite voice she could muster. "Last I checked you are Delilah's boyfriend and also older than I am. If that does not make you a mister then I don't know what does. Propriety requires a lady be polite to her friends paramours and since you fall in that category, sir, then I will address you as proper. I see Ms. Mei understands proper manners, and did not request me to go against the rules of conduct, so I would very much like it if you would do the same, sir." Her cheeks had puffed out a bit in her... micro tantrum, but she was not calm, having gotten that off her chest. Turning her attention back to Mei as she suggested the art thing she thought for a moment. "I have seen her sketches they're very nice... Though I wonder if it would just be easier to take her to a weekend gallery or something. My dad has been to a few for work reasons." She refrained from adding that at the last one he'd been to one of the artists showing pieces had gone completely nuts and had almost sent everyone running out of the gallery. Funny how that was. "I think we should do something... small and more... close to home? I mean it's really the thought that counts above all things right? Why go big and loud when we can just give her a fun time to relax..." And not have to worry about the Negaverse breathing down our necks - or how nobody is united...

Quinn knew when he was beat and held his hands up in surrender while chuckling. "Alright, alright Mercy. I get it... Lets just pretend that I never asked you to do that." He didn't really want to have the younger girl peeved with him and arguing about something as stupid as 'Mr.' He would have continued but the waitress came back with the drinks and let them know the food would be out shortly. He used the break to sit back and get his mind back on track, he was running out of time and Quinn refused to just let this idea fade. He contemplated Mei's suggestions and asked, "Like enjoying heights?" The phrase 'has a thing for heights' made him think Delilah didn't like them but the suggestions of a zipline or high ropes course seemed like she liked them. Quinn liked to think he was observant but he couldn't say how Delilah felt either way even after spending so much time with her. Some dates were even dealing with heights at least partially. "Either way I don't know how doing such adventures would be great for a group since there has to be a few who wouldn't have fun. A party should have everyone having some kind of enjoyment even if its just chatting about cars or something with a few other people." It was actually why when Quinn knew he had to go to a party he brought a deck of cards. He could normally find someone to play a few hands of poker or blackjack, it just depended on the group and the general age of the party goers. "I've seen a few of her sketches and I really like them." He loved seeing her work on their project and secretly flipped through her one sketch book briefly when he had the chance. He didn't know squat about fashion but he really liked the designs she came up with. "The workshops are actually a damn good idea but would it have the same issue as the adventures? What would be the general age of the people I should invite? I mean I would totally invite her folks so would they enjoy doing glass blowing as much as Delilah would? Or even a gallery?" Quinn absently fiddled with his fork, annoyed with himself for being so uncertain about this. He wanted her birthday to be memorable and perfect but he felt like he was standing on quicksand and sinking fast. Crap! He wasn't even worried about how much time it would take to schedule such a workshop, Quinn was more than willing to tap into his family money to make Delilah happy... especially after the week they had. His anxious fiddling stilled as he had an epiphany moment. A vacation. He would take her on a vacation; it would take a lot of planning but he figured it would be worth it and it would be a memorable. But he still wanted to do something that was for her friends as well as quiet time for Delilah. "They are all good ideas and would be great for a date but not really something that would work for a party. What about a simple party? Like a pool party?" The weather might not hold for a outdoor party but it could easily be moved inside but it still raises the same type of questions. "Would everyone enjoy it? Would Delilah?" Honestly something simpler would be best if I do go with the trip idea for a present, He mentally added. Once more Quinn was interrupted when the waitress returned with their food and passed it out. It didn't matter anyway since he didn't really have anything else to add to the conversation just yet.

“Honestly, I can’t really say who all would enjoy what activity. In truth... it really doesn’t matter if whomever we extend the invitation to does or doesn’t like what we have planned. The day is for Delilah not them. On a side note, we got to consider just how big we plan the event on being. Too many people and we run the risk of her not having much fun especially if she feels obligated to go chat with everyone.” Mei offered Quinn a lopsided smile and a slight shrug. The points she made weren’t meant to be mean but the reason for them being here was to plan something fun for their friend and finding an activity she would enjoy; it is a day to celebrate her after all. “Thank you!” Mei gladly accepted her lunch from the offering waitress with a sincere smile and nod of her head. After taking a bite of the warm sandwich she turned her attention back to the duo across the table from her. “I see no problem with a pool party especially if we plan on having like a snack bar and tables for dry activities. However, it would just be wise to consider that it is almost mid-September.” Fall was here, the weather was rather chilly in the morning and the chance of rain increased each day as the temperature decreased. “We might want to consider a backup plan just in case the weather turns sour.” Food for thought and with that said she took another bite of her food while the cheese was still stringy and bread still warm and toasted.

Mercy nodded her head and thanked the waitress when she brought the drinks and then again when she brought the food. She sat and listened to the two older planners bounce ideas back and forth. However when the pool party idea came up she sat up a bit straighter. "Yes, it is getting a bit on the iffy side weather wise. But, there are plenty of places with indoor and heated pools - if you know where to look." She smiled a bit at Mei and Quinn. "Now, granted, they aren't super cheap to rent out for a day, but we wouldn't have to make it an all day affair either." She had no idea what Quinn's budget was - but she was pretty sure if she asked her dad he could hook her up with a couple of good places. If he didn't know a place she was sure he could ask one of his clients...

Mei had some real points but it kinda popped his secret desire to throw a epic party. The girl sitting across the table from him had some valid points since having a massive party would mean Delilah wouldn't likely get to spend much time just having fun... and as long as she had fun who cared if all they were doing was sitting in a library reading although Quinn didn't think that would cut it at all. His girl seemed much more the party person. The sandwich was good. He hummed in appreciation as he took a decent bite out of the toasted bread but quickly chewed it as the conversation continued on around him. After swallowing he replied to both girls... "If a pool party will work I actually have a place that might work just need to ask first." His parents had a substantial pool room with a hot tub and everything, so if they were willing to put up with a crowd of people he might actually be able to pull off the party in such a short notice. As it was he would have to pull many strings to be able to do the present he was now sure he wanted to give Delilah. "It shouldn't be hard to do food and games if my folks agree to let us use their pool. The decorations should be pretty simple to do as well." He took another bite of his sandwich and chewed slowly as he contemplated the plan forming between the three of them. Taking a swig of his drink to wash the yummy, yummy sandwich he asked the two girls, "Would you be able to let everyone know about the party. Everyone Delilah would want there? I know only a handful of people that she would want there. A small party is all cool but I don't want to miss anyone." He practically itched to dig out his phone and start making calls. His present and this part seemed like the right way to go and the sooner everything was squared away the happier Quinn would feel. But doing that would be completely impolite and while he wasn't always polite his mom did teach him better manners than that so he finished munching on his food while mentally making a list of the people he would have to call and things he would have to get.

“Well,” Mei finished off the last bite of her sandwich before taking a drink of her chai. “Seem we have a game plan,” she added enthusiastically. The creme haired woman picked up her phone to check the time when the waitress returned to drop off the padded black booklet with their receipt inside. Inside was the napkin she had wrote a note on and had passed to the woman when she ordered her food that read ‘just the sandwich’. “Thank you,” mei mouthed before the brunet turned to walk away with an amused grin on her face. Quinn was a nice guy and he was good to Delilah, she’d never order everything on one side of a menu let alone more than she could feasibly eat in one sitting, still it was one last poke at him for making fun of her when they had arrived. “I appreciate the food. Mercy, it was great meeting you. Unfortunately I need to take off. Quinn, if you need me to bring anything send me a text otherwise I’ll talk to her friend Hannah later tonight if not tomorrow and extend an invite.” Something was up between the two of them, and though it was none of her business, it would be best if she contacted Delilah’s childhood friend, since they’ve at least met on a few occasions, as opposed to a stranger handing out invites. After rising to her feet, Mei gathered her belongings, sticking them into her side bag, then extended a hand out towards the young woman as a final farewell.

Mercy sat quietly, giving Mei a nod when she got ready to leave. Standing up herself, she figured it might be best for her to head home herself and at least think about putting together something for Delilah to give her as a present. The hand came unexpectedly, and Mercy stared at it for a moment, before taking it and shaking it lamely. "Yes, it was nice to meet you too..." She said, letting go of the hand before giving Quinn a small curtsy. "I am afraid I too must be heading out, Mr. Quinn. I do hope you enjoy putting our plan into motion." With that, she made sure she wasn't forgetting anything, and took her leave.
