Ember was... adjusting. He missed a lot of things-- the open air of the commune, the bleat of goats in the morning, his friends that understood his faith. But he was still new, and there was time. All the time in the world, he was starting to learn. And on this day, this gloriously sunny morning, Ember was going to learn about minipets.
...He just. Kind of got lost on the way. He bust through the door a solid fifteen minutes late, panting a little, hair and outfit disheveled. "Sorry I'm late!" he squeaked, shutting the door behind him with a sigh of relief. "This building is, like, not where I thought it'd be. You're my partner for this? I've never done it before, sorry, I'm like, realllllyy reallly new still and junk!"

Her partner was late but Shu wasn't upset for that. She was glad that she could save them from the cruel fate of melting. Underneath the long sleeveless hunter coat with the edge shaped like flower petal, she wore a "My dream in pink" tee with a grey comfortable short. While wondering if her partner would show up (she had experiences that partners absented from two-person duty), she talked to the adorable critters in her mother language, Chinese. She asked if they're still scared after the explosion, she asked if they sleep or eat enough, she asked if they see any funny people. Although the minipets couldn't answer her, she enjoyed talking to them. When she moved to complain about the tiny Pygmy Treat didn't open his heart to her and pouted, someone broke in. The loud noise had startled the petite Asian, her shoulders twitched like a jumping cat and her clear amber eyes widened as large as they could for a few seconds. The muscles pulled the eyes opened eased with his words, realizing that was her partner. They curved slightly with her bright smile and then widened again seeing how the person looked. "You - You are pretty!" There was a head-desk sound made in her mind before she walked towards her partner. "It's okay, take a deep breathe." She paused. "Yes, I'm your partner today, you can call me Shu. Sorry to ask, you're a he or she? There are too many beautiful people on the island, regardless of gender." She stared at the green hair as if she saw a delicious cupcake, in term of intensity. "What's this brilliant color?"

Oh nooooo, his partner was adorable. They clearly had the same idea about each other, and that alone made Ember calm down some, wheezing a little, clutching the counter, as if he'd run the whole way there. ...Which, he had. In heeled boots. "Oh!" Ember beamed, nudging Shu gently with his elbow. "You are too! Like, super cute even." At the quest of gender, he laughed, bright and impish. "I'm a boy, but I can understand the confusion. I don't mind." He leaned forward, inviting her to touch his hair. "Freshly dyed! I brought some with me from the salon at the mall. I took their whole stock, suckers." And then, the treat finally caught his eye, and his eyes popped wide. "Ohhh noooo," he whispered, clutching his face, "it's so cute I want to die. Are they all this small and grumpy?"

She didn't judge people, in the view that she changed look a lot to keep herself fresh. Thus, she simply admired how well he ran in those heels, she got accustomed to move in platforms in quite a time before she didn't stumble. "No u~" She might be blushing, she guess she was. Shu nudged him back, "Ok, mister then. You're easygoing, you know, some people would get angry, feeling offended - I'm glad you don't!" The petite Death grinned brightly, feeling Ember would not mind when her clumsiness took place. Sensing his openness, Shu didn't shy to touch his hair and rubbed gently back and forth, the vibrant color fixed firmly on the soft hair. "Ohhh it takes a lot to dye like that?" Her ombre dye didn't require much colorists to maintain. She would worry about the cost to maintain the brilliant lime-green. Before Shu could answer, the said treat in cage shot deadly lasers at the green freak, his colors - does he want to blind its eyes? "Mhmm. They're called mini-pets so their sizes normally won't exceed this cage." She paused, took a glance at the icy cute critter before returning to look at Ember. "Not all are that grumpy," she lowered her voice at the adjective, "Most of them are cuddly and cute! Hmm.....like this one~!" The big amber eyes roamed around and stopped at a poms. "This species has extensive fluffs and very friendly." She picked it up from the cage and held it to the trainee. "Wanna hug it?" Behind them, the treat sent many judging glares at the duo.

"I feel like," he said, almost whimsical, "if I'm gonna like, be me, and that me is like, a little confusing at first? Then that's okay, you know? I mean, I'm comfortable with being a guy, but I really really love this stuff and like, would prefer to look this way most days. I'll show you a selfie of me without all this stuff one day-- maybe. You have to like, earn it and stuff!" All the while, Ember let Shu pat his hair. "Huh. That's like, wild. Also, that one you have like...it looks like a cat that wants to kill you, you know? The ones that you know hate you. And are like, kind of just waiting for you to be asleep so they can murder. But, I really....Oh! Yes I do want to hold it!" Delicately, he accepted the poms into his arms, cradling it like a puppy, scritching it's belly. "These are like, really made of fear, huh? Do some of them look a little more, well--" A scratching drew his attention, and then Ember let out a tiny squeak, edging closer to the cages. His eyes were as wide as dinner plates, the poms still in his arms, gently be petted. "I want," Ember said, utterly reverent, and ignoring the fluffier one, "this one. Can I hold this one?"

The petite hunter that wasn't very smart batted her eyes in small puzzlement, she somehow felt he was talking on a topic on gender issue. "I think you look great in this style, gender doesn't determine what you should be wearing for me. As long as you enjoy doing it, it's fine." Smiling, her amber eyes rolled and looked at Ember. "Don't tempt me, I'll do it, I will earn it for the secret you keep. That's my division is about." The eyes rolled slowly once more, "That day when you show me your selfie, I'll in exchange show you a precious picture of mine, fair enough?" For Shu, it wasn't a problem to dress prettily. It was more like how yourself value your dressing, if you're confident and comfortable with the pre-requisite of won't causing any troubles, then she won't have comment on it. Shu guessed that were what normal people would think about her dearest treat, "He is...... not that bad, of course he does look mean but the accomplishment and success making one likes you gives great satisfaction." She bloomed a smug smile, believing she would make it come true. The petite hunter closely followed after the boy, "No!" said Shu adamantly. "Just joking, I think it loves to bite." She squatted besides him, hand ruffled the fur of the poms, then stared at the multiple zipper like teeth the minipet captivated Ember had. "You better wear gloves and be careful. Even our wounds heal quickly, it doesn't mean detached fingers would be 100% fixed." The Scareon looked cute but she sensed a weak hint of danger from it. She stood up and went to bring a pair of gloves with her back, from Ember's demeanor, she could tell he would do it. "Back to your question, the pom and this scareon, they're all made of fear. These cages function as devices to provide reliable source of fear they could absorb enough fear to stabilize their forms or else they would melt after leaving the cages for a while. The world they live is so different from ours, it's rich in fear, so they don't need to be caged there"

Ember beamed, liking Shu already. "Ohhh, that's right! Death is like, super full of spies and junk. That's so mysterious!" He hmmmed softly, and stuck his hand out for Shu to shake. "It's a deal, Shu." Ember put the pom back into its cage with one last chin scratch and tugged the gloves onto both of his hands. Gingerly, he reached towards the scareon-- a homunculus one, per the tag-- and gently scooped it out. "I'll be careful," he promised, not meaning it very much at all, smooshing his cheek to its face. It was, predictably, not pleased. Lucky for Ember, it just hissed and laid stiff in his arms, wild shadows thrashing around it. "That's so cool. Can we go there?"

Giggling, Shu told Ember she had once asked to deliver secret messages to people like a spy, and then she shook his hand with a grin while staring at the black glossy nails. Shu felt like she was in a circus and watching the performer putting their heads inside the mouth of a lion, she anxiously fiddled her pocket, some candies fell out. She grabbed them up and squinted at them to distinguish them. With hesitation, she put the one in her right hand back into the pocket and offered those remained in her palm to the Scareon, slightly excited. To be honest, they were proven the best in her years dealing with minis. It will soothe their irritation and help as a distraction. "Yes, we can, in a golem. Humans normally don't survive in fear-containing environment long, I heard someone exploded there...... An-Anyway, in a golem, we can stay there to explore, that's how we get these candies. It's a fascinating world but some halloween denizens have a hostility towards humans, so be careful of revealing your identity." She cringed at a stray ribbon of shadow wrapped around her wrist to pull her hand closer for the candies. Don't bite her......she didn't wear any glovessssss. Shu hated pains even the wounds would heal quickly.

"Candy, huh? That's the best way to get to my heart too." The scareon relaxed, ever so minutely, and warily nibbled at the candy, swatting a little at the ribbon, like some sort of wildcat kitten. "Woahhh! What are like, golems again? I really want to go, so bad. I want to meet demons forever and ever, in the name of Baphomet and Asmodeus, amen!" Ember squeezed the scareon maybe a little too tight, a manic glint flashing in his eyes. He was really excited.
"How do I get a golem? Can I go by myself? How long does it last?"

"You love candies too? Where's your room? I live in the basement, B04. If you have time and walk past, give me a knock. I'll give some Asian candies and snacks to you!" She said excitedly, sharing foods with friends was her most favourite thing to do. She gulped restrainedly at the tighter grasp on her wrist as the result of Ember's squeeze, for a second, her mind spaced out to imagine she was the husband of a mother giving birth and the nurse that controlled their fates was Ember. < Tsk.> The beast couldn't say he was impressed by his partner sometimes, when her subject was that excited, she could daydream like that. "Ohh -" She finally returned. "They're like robots with super fine costumes of different halloween denizens that you pilot when you're in a pod. Your golem would enter that world while you're sleeping in a pod in the lab here." She tried to explain it in simple words. "It feels like Augmented Reality, aka AR. Hmm, those should be covered in orientation or the pamphlet -" She looked at the trainee with a mild judging squint, "You missed it?"

"Super duper sweet tooth," Ember confessed. "Also, like. I'm in the basement too! Way way way down the hall though, allllll the way in like, 64 I think?" He looked thoughtful, not being that great with numbers. But it switched, again, to the most eager of listening. "Wow," he breathed, daydreaming of himself in another body, one crafted to look Just Like a Demon, or something else. "I looked at it, I did! Just, I wanted more detail and stuff." It was mostly the truth, anyway.

"Hmm, another side of the corridor then. Don't you think the empty rooms are creepy? Anyway, next time I am craving desserts, I know who I'm bringing!" The topic of her words changed like television channels, as usual when a gust of happiness washed over her face obviously. She nodded with smile, "I'm glad you did, they spend a lot of efforts on them and did it out of kindness and their hearts. I love knowing more, so reading won't be a problem for me. I do know some don't enjoy reading." She smiled again at Ember. "As long as they acknowledge the basis, it's fine." Talking about them, she seemed to not seeing Mr. Thompson for a while.......

"It is," Ember said, sighing dreamily. "Like, super spooky and creepy. I saw some with like, torture racks!" He sounded way too excited about that, but that was fine.Ember nodded his head, making note to read all the material again, just in case. "It's soooo much to take in, and stuff. But, this place is like, a dream come true, you know?" And if he said it, out loud, then maybe the homesickness would go away, and he'd stop missing the little creek and his mom.

"You like medieval prison stuff, don't you?" Leaning back, Shu squinted her eyes at Ember the second time. Good insight was one of her merits and might be the main reason why she wasn't kicked from Death yet. It somehow reminded her about a manga she read recently, about torture devices and handsome guy - nope, that's not the main point, her thoughts stray again. "I'll still suggest you to bring a candle ( if you like those ghost-hunting tour in the classic old history castle) or a flashlight." The part bracketed was said like a fast, vague whisper that mostly resembled a mumble. She saw the sparkles in his eyes, "Dream-coming-true?" She ruminated with it, from where to where? A new family and home, a new life that no one knew her past or the power she acquired, she couldn't help musing the words. "Like what?" She heard herself asking.

"Not like, specifically. Just, you know. I appreciate a scary aesthetic, like, lots!" He sighed dreamily again. "I've been like, using this crank lantern some bearded Russian guy gave me. He seemed kind of like a jerk though, and a little uhm, creepy? So, I didn't talk to him much." Ember squeezed the minipet again, settling it gently into its cage again, wanting to keep it forever and ever. "I like, have always loved demons, you know? They were like, my best friends, and my religion, and my beliefs and rituals all in one. And now like, I'll get to meet them and stuff. It's gonna be great!"
