"MAGS!"
It was a roar that made the tables tremble, the doors to the Waffle House slamming open with a ferocity that was unparalleled. The manager whipped around to glare daggers at the young woman storming her establishment, her expression soon fading to resigned exasperation. There was no arguing with this one.
Dana stormed up to the counter, throwing her bag on the ground as she hopped onto a stool. Her blue eyes blazed with emotion, and she quickly sucked in a breath to screech the girl's name again. The manager cleared her throat ominously, and Dan hastily adjusted her volume before hissing, "Mags!"
Where was she?! There was important business to discuss! Of course, they couldn't talk too freely out in the open, but Danny was now a master of subtly.
Sort of.

The echoing of her name reverberated against the kitchen walls and the tall blonde's smile grew broader. Gathering the plates Rusty had just set out, she barreled through the swinging doors into the restaurant, practically beaming with triumph.
"Look, Dan, Ah'm up to five plates at once now!"
Proudly, she semi-twirled, showing off the plates in each hand, elbow curves and the last one - did she really - poised on top of her curly blonde head. The twirl sent a greasy piece of bacon flying off waywardly into a corner, but the waitress remained blissfully unaware as it struck her that she should probably deliver the five plates as opposed to showing them off.
Unceremoniously dropping the plates in front of the waiting family (no cracks in the dishes this time!), she promptly ignored any request they further had in lieu of catching up with her best friend. Wiping her hands on her half-apron, she approached the stool Danny was now impatiently spinning around on.
"What's up, Dan?"

Her eyes widened at the sight of Mags handling so many dishes, then narrowed to mere slits as she considered the implications of this. Of course, it was a little ruined by the fact that she continued to spin in circles the entire time. The flying bacon was a regretful loss, but good soldiers sometimes perished in battle.
RIP, bacon. Dana will forever mourn you.
With an impatient sound, she slammed her hands on the counter to halt her spin. "Where have you been?" She demanded, then waved a hand as though to dismiss whatever excuse Mags was about to throw her way. "Never mind! Listen, we need to...
...
...
...
hang out."
Man, she couldn't imagine how hard being a superhero would be without her natural talent for being sneaky.

Her baby blue eyes cut away from the clearly very serious girl staring daggers at her to glance at her manager, who also seemed dreadfully serious about Mags getting back to work.
"Ah've got about twenty more minutes, can ya..." Her mind drifted, attempting to think of something distracting for Dana to do while she waited for Mags to get off of her shift. Her eyebrows furrowed as she dug deep for her solution, "....can ya wait for me?"
Perfect plan.
The manager, seemingly satisfied that Mags was not planning to cut out early as she tended to do when her companion was around, turned back to the register to continue counting.
Mags, on the other hand, looked worried. Enduring the wrath of her feisty friend was not something she had been prepared for.

Dana's gaze snapped back to the manager in question, scowling at her something fierce. Well, at her back, anyway. She impatiently yanked at her ponytail, scrunched up her face, and sighed loudly with impatience. "Fine. But if you aren't out in twenty minutes, I'll be back!"
Hopping off the stool and snatching up her bag, Danny bustled her way towards the door... only to spin on her heel and point dramatically at the manager. Her eyes were narrowed, her jaw clenched, and her finger quivered with her righteous indignation.
Then she turned and tromped outside to wait.

Ohh...this wasn't good...this wasn't good at all...
She may have been nearly a foot taller than her and two years her senior, but Mags definitely knew that Danny was the boss. When the boss wasn't happy, nobody was happy.
Rushing to clean up, she quickly grabbed a bus tub from the kitchen and began picking up the plates from all of her tables, whether the customers were finished or not. The sooner she cleaned up, the sooner she clocked out.
Over the next nineteen minutes, bills were handed out, tables were wiped down and the floor was casually brushed over with a broom, crumbs and crumpled napkins swooshed to the side. In the last minute, her apron and notepad were dropped off, her hat hung on the peg in the back room and she quickly snagged her own backpack (and the doggy bag Rusty had conveniently made for her) before dashing out the front door and into the evening air.
"AH'M HEEEEEERE." She announced loudly, making sure that Dan knew just how on-time Mags could be.

Her fingers tapped impatiently at her cellphone while she waited, initially filled with aggravation. She soon lost herself in some mindless little game, tapping at the bright shapes to line them up. Higher and higher she stacked her combos, and soon the small girl was on the edge of her seat. She'd never beaten this level before! If she kept up this pace, there was no way she'd lose--
--Dana squawked with surprise as Mags suddenly appeared, nearly dropping her phone. Scrambling to her feet, she hastily shoved her phone back in her bag. "It's about time! Come on!"
She snatched the girl by the hand and gave a fierce tug, already starting to march off whether Mags wanted to or not. They had secret things to discuss!

Large shoes trotted behind the shorter girl as Mags needed little effort to keep up with her best friend. The path they were on was obvious - back to their secret lair (Mag's apartment) to speak of secret things (like how to take over the world what to have for dinner how to beat any bad guys they see) as they had done for several times a week for the past few years, excluding the extra days during the summertime.
With Fall quickly approaching, the summer air had grown cooler, making the evening a refreshing change from the sweltering Waffle House kitchen temperatures. She took a moment to enjoy the feel of the breeze against her massive head of curls as her hand, still captive to Dan's iron grip, jerked forward with the implication that Mags needed to hurry it up.
"So whadya want for dinner, Danny? Don't have much at home, but we could always drop by the grocery store, Ah reckon', pick up some things to cook and the like."
Mmmm....food. Her stomach rumbled at the thought.

Her mind was so busy with plots and plans and thoughts of glory that Dan hadn't even considered something as simple as eating. Her brisk stride jerked to an abrupt halt, and the small girl frowned thoughtfully.
"I don't know," She admitted, scuffing a shoe on the ground. "We can go look and see." Thinking on an empty stomach wouldn't do either of them any good. After a moment, Dana squinted. "We're gonna buy something pre-made."
Suffering through another of Mags' concoctions might just be a mistake she didn't recover from...

Mags grinned. She'd had another good idea, obviously!
"Well, let's get goin' then!"
It was her turn to yank on her friend's hand, grabbing it (and poor Danny along with it) and dashing off towards the neighboring marketplace. Even if Dan wasn't going to let her cook, she was certain she was going to take advantage of this opportunity and stuff her face and stomach with as much delicious food as possible, for who could possibly guess what kind of training and lessons Danny had in store for them tonight.
