Name: Nucleo Glatte

Nucleo - nucleus + clone blended and shortened
Glatte - latte + goat blended and shortened

Blood colour: #a9ae44 █████, greenblood

Gender: Male

Symbol: Paper cutout chain

Personality: Fun and friendly, Nucleo is an amiable troll who likes journeying. From wandering through the world to coming home and sharing stories with friends, he brightens people's days with his antics and easygoing aura. Nucleo is an inviting troll, as long as he doesn't have any reason to fear or suspect you. Even if he does consider a troll odd, he's still the type to give them a chance in order to feel them out. More often than not their differences can be appreciated as new ways to look at things. Nucleo likes finding the cool little things that makes trolls unique from each other because of his own special quirk of a power.

Nucleo knows he is different from other trolls. Not many have the power to make multiples of themselves! It has been the best realization of his childhood. At first it was sort of weird but he quickly got over it being strange once he realized it was actually very useful. Now he can make another him to talk and play with or send to go do things he doesn't particularly feel like doing. When he uses his power he splits up into sentient versions of himself. If they merge back with him, he gains the knowledge/memories of what they experience. Unfortunately for him, the memories get added to his thinkpan chronologically so it makes it hard to look back on them. Nucleo has not perfected a system for handling his resulting scrambled memories quite yet. Currently he has set up a painting system to mark which clone is which in hope that his clones will glance at their arms to help him identify things later. He's also writing down the night's events in a journal right before he goes to sleep and working out a timeline of what seems to be logical but it's not really useful in unscrambling much, just recording that things plain happened. It's not incredibly reliable but has worked a few times.

The clones have a time limit and get destroyed if he doesn't meet up with them again. After a certain amount of time the atoms fizzle out of control into a small explosion. The particles break down and leave no trace. They explode in a sudden blast of energy into dust. This burst is not strong enough to act as a bomb, it is just a little startling. When the clones explode he doesn't get the information they've learned and psychically feels some pain when they explode. The time limit changes depending on how many clones he sends out of himself, more clones, shorter duration. As he grows older his control will grow stronger and he'll be able to sustain the clones for longer. For now as a child the most clones he can make at the same time is three. The amount of energy he expends into his clones can be compared to walking and running. Creating one clone is like a leisurely stroll and does not take much effort, usually sustainable with ease. Creating two clones is like a jog, it takes more out of him and thus is harder to fuel. Three clones is a running pace for him and very difficult for him to sustain. The amount of time he can keep his clones up varies because there are certain nights when he intends to use his power multiple times in a day and thus rations his energy carefully. The thing to keep in mind is that the amount of energy needed continues to strain him for however long his clones are out.

Nucleo's relationship with his clones is a bit messy currently. He's aware they are copies of him and thus have the same personality/beliefs so they're good company for him in that regard. As a child he has a playful banter with them, treating them as family in all aspects of the word: if called into question he'd defend his clones but Nucleo also feels he has the right to order his clones around (the way Goatmom tells him what to do). Nucleo doesn't fully understand how to explain his relationship with his clones to other trolls because troll families are a distant concept. When pressed he'll refer to them like twins as an easy answer to give away even though he doesn't have much experience with twin trolls. He's had confusing thoughts about his clones and whether or not they are pieces of him split apart or rather fully formed copies of his original self. Currently he's convinced himself they are copies of himself, not pieces. This is a point of debate that he'll struggle with as he grows.

As a teen his clones will start to reflect different pieces of his personality traits and adopting semi-personas of their own but not as truly separate characters. One clone might be inclined to be more of a charmer while clone number two might be more inclined to go out exploring. If these clones fail to return to him, they do not die forever because it was just a cloned copy of that persona. These personas will be re-occurring and eventually Nucleo will learn to tell them apart and use his paint technique to help differentiate them. An important note is that his personas will have the same scrambled memories of Nucleo's previous experiences- they are only clones not splits of his personality/experiences.

His lusus finds his cloning power frustrating to deal with, especially after an incident involving switching out and trickery.

Goatmom chose to raise Nucleo on Busthind mountain despite the rough terrain because it was her home. The mountain has it's dangers and Nucleo enjoys the adventures he can get into! He acknowledges that it is a hard lifestyle though and has learned the importance of preparing before going on any journeys! After one of his treks around the mountain Nucleo felt hungry and exhausted at the same time and wished he could just order some food and be pampered. It was then that he realized there might be an interest in having a cozy cafe type place for other weary Busthind trolls to drop by! He has done his best to rearrange his living room to make space for a coffee shop of sorts and started a small garden to try and build up a supply for his business idea. Only problem is that the shop is still fairly young and thus doesn't have any many nice things as he would like. He spends a lot of time looking for herbs and ingredients to bring home to try and entice his neighbors and friends to come over and eat! Nucleo hopes to renovate the place one day so it'll be as wonderful a place as he's always imagined it.

Why coffee? It's a drink that most other trolls can and/or are willing to drink, unlike alcohol, and can be dressed up with various ingredients to convince the uncertain customer to give it a chance. Also it's warm! Lastly it gives Nucleo an energetic feeling that boosts his mentality into believing he can keep going for longer or sustain his clones better through a sort of placebo effect.

As for the hemospectrum, Nucleo doesn't really care for the system but he respects it and abides by it for now. He doesn't like his place in the rankings but doesn't believe he can do anything about it by himself. Nucleo just wants to keep his friends safe and happy and hopes that most of the highbloods will keep the problems off his mountain. If faced with the decision between protecting his friends and turning them in to the Royalists as a 'good citizen' he will certainly pick protecting his friends. Nucleo hopes to avoid ever having to make that choice, however, and tries to keep any incidents from getting out of control.

Nucleo's reaction to conflict is usually to try and de-escalate it. If another troll is rude to him, he'll do his best to remain polite and tell himself they are just having a bad night. If he hears some trolls are upset, he will try to find out why and see what can be done. He is not a saint, however, and is capable of running out of passes to give. Nucleo operates on a three strike system. If he tries three times to resolve a problem and it continues to get worse, he then does whatever he can to just plain leave the situation. If he is confronted with trouble during the time he tries to leave, that is when Nucleo will finally confront the problem in a more obviously irritated manner and stop holding his tongue. For the most part, he wants to be a peaceful troll. Sometimes he fails (especially when his friends are involved and at risk) but he doesn't like the person he becomes during those incidents.

Most of the time Nucleo is either at his hive entertaining any customers or romping around the wilderness looking for goodies to bring home or fun experiences to be had! He enjoys adventuring in nature more so than civilization but he's still game for wandering cities and finding fun little secret places. He doesn't have an agenda against the city though and makes trips off the mountain in order to collect/buy things to bring back to Busthind. He hopes to find some business contacts to supply his shop but is still starting up and has no idea where to begin. He'll likely make several trips into the city for market research as well to see what other stores are doing.

Nucleo likes mason jars a lot. Mason jars can be used for so many things, they are basically his first answer to any problem in his hive. He likes to pack meals in them for when he tromps around the mountain and won't be near civilization for a few hours. He also likes nicknames.

Strengths:

Adaptable - Nucleo is able to switch gears and plans easily. Due to his powers often leading him into oddball situations and scrambled memories, he's learned how to just accept change happens and to just go with it. Nucleo is great at looking for new ways to deal with problems, maybe he's not always successful with his plan but he's good at coming up with them. Customer service from his start-up coffee house has also taught him how to keep calm when things go wrong and look for a way to fix things that come up.

Charismatic - Some trolls seem to just have a way with the crowd, Nucleo is one of those trolls. He's friendly and he's mysterious in that you don't always know what he's thinking but that's a little intriguing. He always seems to know what to say without seeming obnoxiously confident. His popularity might be frustrating to some (especially the trolls who have to struggle for it) but for the most part it doesn't hurt anyone and makes him a valuable ally!

Adventurous - The world is such a big wonderful place with so much yet to be seen! Nucleo is the type of troll who likes to try everything once and say yes to as much as he can. He's up for doing crazy risky things as long as he doesn't think it'll kill anyone. He likes to talk about how it's about the journey more than the destination and collects experiences he can tell stories about later. Nucleo sees every night as an opportunity to learn something new about himself, his friends, or life in general and loves taking chances to discover things he never knew even existed. Taking chances can be risky but he is all about experiencing things

Flaws:

Memory - Nucleo experiences a lot of different things due to his ability to be in more than one place at the same time. His clones are sentient which means they can hold conversations with other trolls separate from him and have different knowledge at the time, which effects how he acts. When Nucleo merges and absorbs the memories, they can be confusing and jumbled so he has trouble recalling what happened during the times he had clones out. When Nucleo loses a clone due to the time limit, he has no idea what his clone said and did. Nucleo has no trouble during the time before he's merged with his clones but immediately after he absorbs them, Nucleo has a hard time sifting through everything. This affects him negatively because it means that he often loses important messages and moments with other trolls. It also makes him doubt himself at times because he doesn't really know what happened to his clones so it can be scary to absorb their experiences and have those things shape him in the future.

For the most part Nucleo tries to pretend to other trolls that he's just forgetful. He doesn't want to admit his problem with memories to strangers and will only fully explain the situation to close friends. If asked by strangers he just says that he gains memories from his clones but does his best to neglect that his thinkpan has trouble organizing things. This is because he fears that other trolls would think him unreliable and too much trouble to give a chance. Nucleo finds his memory problem to be frustrating and wishes he had a better way of fixing it. This is what Nucleo feels most insecure about.

Nosy - Nucleo likes other trolls and has no qualms inviting himself to bother them. He believes he has good intentions but doesn't realize that he invades personal space and oversteps his boundaries when tough cases appear. He expects other trolls to open up to him easily. When he encounters a guarded troll he finds it odd when they don't react positively and simply thinks that he needs to be a little pushy at times to convince the other troll that he is sincere in his attempt of befriending them. Nucleo likes learning things about other people (and learning about their hobbies) and gets carried away in his ways of asking for information. He is likely to ask around (gossip) to see if any of his friends know something that could help him get leeway in convincing a particular troll to talk with him. Basically the more a troll resists him, the more likely he is to ignore their right to privacy in order to show them how genuinely he wants to be friends. He can be convinced to leave a troll alone by screaming and crying but it only gets him to back off for a little while.

Possessive - When Nucleo makes friends or takes time to invest in something, he becomes greatly attached to them. He starts to consider his friends as something he's supposed to take care of and protect and sometimes goes a bit overboard when he feels his position is being threatened. Nucleo is not the type to have a knee-jerk reaction but he will immediately begin looking for ways to chase off the threats to his relationships and belongings. He will come to blows if any violence begins. He does not consult with the people he feels need protecting and honestly it's pretty condescending for him to assume they need protecting in the first place. Nucleo basically becomes controlling when he feels his possessions are at risk and will try to take over the scene and manipulate it to his most desired outcome without questioning what others might want. Often times it means Nucleo will shut down whatever interaction is going on and usher people apart- even if the participants could have benefited from talking things through to find a resolution. His type of manipulation seems subtle at first, deceptive almost, but it's something observant trolls can pick up on. It's also frustrating because it's hard to call him out on it at times but definitely irritating. Nucleo is aware that he has a jealous and possessive personality which troubles him but when those moments happen he can't help himself! With his clones inheriting the same flaw, he stresses over how out-of-control he feels he becomes. Nucleo wants very badly to be seen as everyone's friend and thus hates this side of himself but doesn't feel comfortable admitting this flaw to others.

Weapon: Knuckles/Bracers he can wear while performing close combat brawling. His fighting style will be more of martial arts physical type blows but he doesn't belong to a formal dojo or anythings like that.

Appearance: Nucleo has bangs he brushes back out of his face and two braids that frame both sides of his face, along with two more braids at the back of his head. The rest of his hair is pulled into a bun. A set of green birthmark lines dot his arms, legs, and face. Nucleo uses a bright teal paint to draw more lines on him, or rather to mark the clones he creates in order to keep track of them. He uses the same teal paint to paint over his eyebrows. He wears a black tank top that is tied like a halter behind his neck and a pair of black shorts with a colorful border at the edge. His shoes are just basic sneakers with a teal detail and green socks that don't seem willing to stay up.

Home: Nucleo has set up his hive on Busthind Mountain. It's a hard way of life and one he truly enjoys as it gives him challenges to overcome everyday! Originally it was hard for him but he has grown accustomed to the environment and learned a few tricks from his lusus on how to climb around. The only problem with the village in Busthind is that it's so small! Determined to give his community a place to meet and enjoy each other's company without having to climb all the way down and take a train, Nucleo decided to open his home to others as a sort of coffee shop. It's a bit small at the moment as he's just a kid and doesn't have the beetles to make a separate store so trolls who visit are literally sitting in his living room. It's quaint though and has a lot of care into making it cozy for his friends who brave the tough climate. Nucleo's hive is lined up against the mountain, a two story cabin. The first floor is mostly comprised of his living room and kitchen, along with a small bathroom and stairs that lead up to his personal quarters. The second floor is a small attic that he's stuffed his recuperacoon along with a small study that barely fits.

Lusus: Nucleo's lusus is a mountain goat named Goatmom. She has the patience of a saint but dishes out tough love whenever she can, wanting her child to grow up strong and capable. Nucleo is constantly amazed at the places she can climb up to and frequently tries to climb after her, even when it looks (and is) impossible. He does not exactly idolize his mom but certainly thinks she's pretty cool. Goatmom does her best to steer Nucleo in the right direction by nudging him when she thinks he's doing something the wrong way but doesn't want to outright call him out on it. She sometimes lets him use her milk for his coffee shop but he only gives it to customers he believes have earned it. For some reason her milk tastes sweeter than one would expect, thanks to her diet of a specific grass.

When out in public, Goatmom takes a backseat unless absolutely necessary. It's not that she has social anxiety or anything, she just wants to let Nucleo bother somebody else a little (but she keeps an eye on him from a distance). He enjoys this chance to meet other trolls and make friends without feeling limited. When the two are alone, however, she is constantly correcting him with the hopes these corrections will become natural to him in the future. Goatmom is very practical about the fact that one day he'll start leaving her behind and she wants to be sure that he'll be okay when she's not around.

Hey Dou! Nucleo is reading nicely; I’m mainly looking for elaboration and some work on his flaws right now!

My first question is The Big One that’s very specific to Nucleo, but I think it’s really important to consider. What does Nucleo think about his clones? They’re sentient, and they’re part of him, but other than him feeling physical pain when they meet an untimely end is he affected by their “life” (and “death”)? How does he treat them – like someone other than himself, like parts of himself – it could be assumed that Nucleo is either made up of his own clones or is even a clone himself! Cloning yourself into impermanent versions is hugely interesting, but as far as interacting with them and how he thinks I’d imagine that’d have a huge impact on his life that I’m not totally seeing right now. In addition, you touch a bit on how scrambled memories and knowledge can be confusing for him and I’d like to know how he copes with this, and what he thinks about it.

(Also, imagining him creating clones to help him braid his hair when he wakes up? Adorable.)

Nucleo seems really laid back, but what makes him tic? Right now I’m getting an idea of that friendly, generally calm side of him but would love to visualize how he handles conflict. His possessiveness flaw is an interesting tidbit, but it’s not something I see very much in his profile section which is interesting to me.

This is a small question out of my curiousity – since his name is partially “latte” themed, does Nucleo have a special appreciation for coffee? I’m interested in why he made a coffee shop out of his hive specifically when he seems to be more of a general business-troll; why not a bed and breakfast, for instance? (Also I’m curious about his love for mason jars haha. He should serve iced coffee in mason jars just sayin’)

Concerning Nucleo’s Careless Flaw: Is his trouble from his clones caused daily? If he’s careless because his run-ins with his clones don’t really affect him (or, aren’t a regular occurrence), I’m not sure if this is as convincing a flaw as I’d like. I do think that his scrambled memories could make for an interesting flaw if you were (as I said above) to elaborate on how this affects him, but if you’re not comfortable with that being at the forefront of his personality as something that regularly affects him I would recommend revisiting this flaw!

Shortsighted: How does this negatively affect him? Living in the present can sometimes be a boon, and with his adaptability it seems to be negated entirely.

Possessive: This is an interesting piece of information! I mentioned before that I hadn’t seen it much elsewhere. I think this flaw is a little on the edge, and the issue right now is that it’s largely situational. If a troll doesn’t consider his protection condescending then it’s not a flaw at all, and being protective over his friends (especially when you mention he’s very reasonable in resolving things peacefully first) seems actually quite handy and a very fair trait. As it stands I’m not totally sure where the trait is coming from, but if you were to make increase its effect on him it might start to affect more of his personality.

That’s all for now! Great job getting him up quick-like!

Okay, I have made some edits to address the critique you gave. The new parts I added are in green to help you find the changes faster. I also deleted some stuff to make it cleaner and not contradict the new parts.

My hope is that I can play up the possessive flaw to be a problem other RPers can decide how to have their trolls react to, whether it is an immediate response (example: Amonee flat out tells Nucleo to cut it out right away) or a delayed response (example: Amonee confers with another troll about how uncomfortable it made him, they discuss how he should proceed). I'm using Amonee's name just as an example here. I am confident I can use it as a problematic flaw in his life that will grow as he becomes a teen. I just didn't want to make it too dramatic just yet since he's a kid was all. : )

My goal with Nucleo is to make a friendly troll who wants to take care of others needs but doesn't always realize that he's burdening them with his own opinions on what he thinks they need, versus what they think they need. I hope that makes sense.

As for why he has a coffeeshop instead of a bed and breakfast, in my head he didn't realize he wanted a shop until after his hive had already been constructed. He's trying to re-purpose a cozy house for now but will be interested in converting/renovating it in the future. He'd be very interested in setting up two spare recuperacoons once he has the space and money for it! If possible I'd like his shop to act as sort of a coffee tavern in the future but right now that seems like too much for a child to run on their own.

Hey! Some more crits from me to you.

Something I missed previously was his “adventurous” strength. It’s currently reading more like a hobby than a strength, but I think I see what you’re getting at. It would be great to elaborate on the last line as I’m starting to see how this is truly a constant benefit.

As well, I’m still having some issues with his Memory flaw. Right now it is a bit general, and many times you pull back on the flaw with language like “They can be a bit confusing” or “it can be a little scary”, so I don’t know exactly what parts of him it affects. It may be good to parse this memory by writing down the cause and effect and compiling in a committed way.

Nosy is reading better, but I would suggest reworking the wording so that it doesn’t make assumptions on how trolls will react to Nucleo. For instance, changing: “He's so used to other trolls opening up to him “ to “He expects trolls to open up to him” and “convince the other (unwilling) troll” to just “other troll”, and “He's been known to ask around” to “He is likely to”. Considering at this stage kids shouldn’t have meaningful friends out of NPCs and these kinds of connections should be the result of shop interactions, this is something tough in writing social flaws and strengths but necessary!

“ troll families are a distant concept for most” -> you can just change this to “distant concept”.

When his clones explode, do they die forever? Also when they re-merge, will they split off as the same clone later? If he learns later to tell them apart, or they become semi-recurring aspects of him that he recognizes, this will likely be really important!

Just so you know, the final paragraph is reading a lot stronger as a flaw on his memory loss than what you currently have for the flaw! Which is great, but you may want to consider incorporating it. The whole clones section I would suggest moving into his profile, because it’s a huge part of his personality that I would have liked to have read sooner than the footnote.

That’s what I’ve got! You’ve done a great job of taking feedback.

I made edits according to your most recent crit! Sorry if I missed anything, I got overwhelmed by school and work for the past few weeks and have been trying to edit this quest slowly.

I tried to color code to make it easier to see how I'd moved stuff around like you suggested. The darker green is just to show where I added new information in the middle of those blocks of text.

Hey hey hey Dou dou tei! I do believe Nucleo is ready. I may have mislead you a bit with my last crit so I have a final note (though I'm going to give him the stamp so just consider this for his journal).

Now the paragraph starting "The clones have a time limit and get destroyed...." is pretty much all factual. You can move that paragraph back down to the Power section so that it reads

Quote:
Power: Cloning (Agility Style B)

The clones have a time...

Then you can skip from Nucleo's memory issues to his relationship with his clones, which reads much more concisely and has a good flow to it.
