Serren was a strange sort. The type of boy to flirt with the girls passing by, to woo them with a charming smile and a low and husky laugh, total playboy down to the core…and yet whenever the girls would ask for more than a few pretty words, Serren would gently turn them down. They were pretty, but he was happily mated and despite his urges to flirt, he wouldn’t do anything to ruin his relationship with Vitania. Not when she was his entire world; not when she was the sun and he orbited her very presence; he couldn’t imagine a life without his mate… And actually, the whole talk of babies--or rather, the batch of kalona-blooded “great uncles” that Grandpa Tav had spawned--made him yearn for another little family of his own. He’d enjoyed raising his first batch of kids, even with their rowdiness and their tendencies to play pranks and mess with strangers passing by. Hell… It had been awhile. Dante was a freaking grandfather now.

Serren shook his head, his rockstar-like mane bouncing over his almond brown eyes, his grin cheery as he strolled down the lane that lead to his and Vitania’s home, off side to the fields and home to a small spring. Yeah, he wanted more kids and it wasn’t like they hadn’t been trying. They had been for what seemed like years. Blowing out a low breath, he gazed around the territory searching for his mate, humming a summer song under his breath. “Vittie?” His voice was silken and low.

The mare had chosen to graze in the green grasses around their home. She was so hungry lately, and even though she hadn't expected it, she knew why. She'd felt her belly stretching every few days, and she knew that she was with foal. She and Serren had tried for so long it seemed, to the point they'd stopped trying. They just enjoyed themselves, and that was when it had happened. It made her smile to think about the first foals she'd raised. Beautiful, sweet little punks that had been such a learning experience for her. She had had her hooves full, and she'd been happy when they'd gone off on their own. As much as she would never admit it, because she missed them greatly too. But there was just something about being free from the rowdy bunch that made her feel like she could breathe again.

Her own mohawk like mane flopped in front of her ever blue eyes. They were lighter than the sky, almost the color of winter ice. She lifted her head, staring out at the grasslands. Moving back just slightly to stay in a shadow in case the approaching stallion wasn't friendly. She couldn't see it, but she could hear it walking through the branches of the woodlands around them. Her eyes and ears were on full alert, staring out in the direction until she saw him emerge from the treeline. A large smile grew on her features when she saw Serren. Probably off flirting with a few young mares, most likely, but yet he returned home to her every night. She was thankful for that, but she knew he'd never stray, same as he knew it of her. She was mysterious, and stallions liked her before she opened her mouth usually. But she'd never felt the desire to mess around. Far too in love and infatuated with the mate she'd called hers for years now. Even though she had a large family now, she hardly felt like the grandmother she was.

"Serren." Her voice was warm, and equally as soft as she started leaving the shadows to walk closer to him. Her heartbeat thrumming in her chest as she wondered how he'd take the news. She was going to break it to him today, having figured a few days was long enough. She could no longer keep it to herself.

The moment he saw her, the world seemed to stand still as he basked in her glory. Always. This was how it was every single time he came home--to her. To this. And in that moment, it didn’t matter if they never had another batch of foals, as long as she would always hold his heart in her hands. God, she was so freaking beautiful. His grin was wide, almost turning into a smirk as he trotted in her direction, arching his neck with a whuff of sound, coming to a halt directly in front of her, hooves braced against the soft earth.

“Vitania,” he countered with a wink, dipping his head to nuzzle her face, velvet skin brushing against her cheek. “Sorry it took me so long. Decided to swing by a pay a little visit to the minions.” That’s what he referred to Tav’s batch of kids as. The minions, because as much as he loved them…they bit. Hard. He lifted a hoof to show off a recent bite that was probably going to bruise. “What can I say? I must taste delicious. Just makes me glad that you’re not a kalona.” He grinned and nipped at her flank before springing away. “Not that you wouldn’t make a glorious kalona. All fangs and jagged horns. Dazzling. Dangerous.” His nose brushed against the tiny, feather-light wings on her back. “But a faerie fits you much better. My faerie princess.”

He trotted forward to her, and the same moment his own heart was swelling with love, hers was following suit. Having watched him stand, his head raised and his entire body proud in the sunshine, the backdrop the beautiful home they shared together. He was like some Grecian god, if she'd had any idea what that would actually mean. Her pushed her own head into a nuzzle, her muzzle brushing under his chin. She reached up to pull a strand of his mane with her teeth. Probably a bit harder than others would like, but gentle enough that she knew it wouldn't harm him.

"I could have told you that." She answered, bemused, her eyes narrowing deviantly as she looked up at him from under her dark lashes. She found him absolutely delicious, but she supposed she was a bit biased. She looked at his hoof, a frown forming on her features.
"You'd better be careful, Serren," her voice was almost dominant but it never went much further than that. Despite how much of a punk she herself could be, sh e was not the dominant one in their pairing. She loved that about him.
"If you lose a hoof, how ever will I get to look at you standing in the glorious sunshine again? You'd have to hobble." She teased.

"But to be fair, my mother might as well be." She chuckled, thinking about Ravah and how she liked to drink blood and eat meat. She didn't even really have the teeth for it, but she did what she could. Her mother and father had had such a strange dynamic, but even Vitania knew Ravah loved her father. She'd always wanted that kind of love, though perhaps a bit more healthy.. She'd suceeded ten fold.

He pressed himself against her, feeling the sunshine’s heat beaming off her pelt and soaking into his, and he let out a pleased sigh that quickly turned to a groan of amusement as she snagged a strand of hair between her teeth and tugged. She had the power to make him go weak in the knees. And she knew it. He knew she knew it. He flashed his teeth in a grin and nodded. “Always careful. Ciaran is just a little nippy… Maybe I’ll bring him back with me next time. See how you two get along,” he teased. Ciaran was probably the most innocent kalona hybrid he’d ever met, and he was fond of the bright orange and violet stallion. Even if Ciaran tended to still retain foal-like tendencies way into maturity. “I think you’d love him. But I am. Always, always careful.” He chuckled. He liked the freedom of running wild way too much. “I would prefer not to be a cripple, thanks.”

He nipped at her ear, then nudged her in the direction of the crystal clear pool. The heat of summer was beaming down on his back, heating him and the air. He took a few steps and cocked his head, to see if she would follow; she always did and when she spoke of Ravah, he smiled. He’d only met her mother in passing… She was. Well. Strange, to put it nicely. A wee bit on the controlling side. “I have to agree with your there,” he said. Ravah would probably eat him if he wasn’t the sire of her grandbabies. “Do you have plans for this beautiful day, milady?” he asked, tone light and teasing.

When he mentioned bringing the one kalona back home, she found her ears flicking against her skull. It was only for a moment, but she imagined what even a gentle Kalona could do to new foals. She supposed she was making the right choice to tell him tonight. She knew he'd feel the same. Even though her babies were always strong, always ready to face the world, they were not built to survive a Kalona. It just wasn't in their cards.

He nudged her, and started walking away from her, and she followed instinctively. When he was around, it wasn't likely she'd be very far from him. She loved him so much, and the idea of the knowledge she carried was making her heart beat much like a rabbit's in the face of a wolf. She followed closely,s miling when he turned his head to look at her. They really did live in such a beautiful place. The water was so close, the trees offered perfect protection, and the grasses were perfect for sleeping in the warmth of the sun on a nice day. Though the sun was starting to get heavy on her, and her legs were starting to ache.

"I had no plans, whatsoever." She paused, looked at her hooves and lifted the front right leg to kick at the dirt in front of her, stomping at the grass. "But I did have some news."

Her eyes flicked up towards his, her bright blue eyes staring up into the chocolate brown eyes that made her heart flutter everytime she looked at him. He was also a good bit taller than she, and she always felt he was just too masculine for his own good. It made her weak.

"Some good news, I think."

Serren didn’t notice the brief flattening of her ears; he could be oblivious at times, but not to a fault. If he had any idea what this “news” would be, he would’ve never endangered babies with the threat of even a lesser kalona like Ciaran. Never… His tail flicked to the side, braid beads clicking together as he warded off a pesky fly, tilting his ears back to listen to her voice, soft and fluting and damn near musical. And she was all his… “Good answer,” he replied with a cheeky grin as they neared the sandy edge of the small but crystal clear pool, with its blue-green waters and pebble-sand bottom. It would be warm the way this summer had been; warm but a relief from the heat nonetheless.

When she spoke of news, he paused and looked back at her. Her ice-blue eyes met his and for a moment, his heartbeat stilled. Stuttered. Picked back up again, only to careen down the tracks. “Good news?” His voice was soft, almost breathless as he let his warm gaze roam over her body. She still looked the same… He nuzzled her nose, huffing out a low breath. “Don’t leave me breathless, babe. Spill.” He had a glimmer of hope that maybe… Maybe all their tries hadn’t been for naught.

He looked so excited, his eyes wide and hopeful. It made her grin widen, and she sashayed aorund him, her long tail lifting just enough to flick his leg, and she waded into the water. She let it cool her, closing her eyes and breathing deeply as she felt her body release some of it's tension. It wasn't a really deep body of water, but it was deep enough where the weight of her body wasn't so great on her legs.

She turned to look at him, her mane plastered to her neck as she smiled. He was so much like a boy, so young and jovial. The look in his face reminded her of the day she had met him. Handsome, tall, and big, he had been everything she'd ever thought she'd need. Though add that he was a rogueish brute, it made him perfect. She would have purred had she had the ability.

"Oh yes, good news." She had seen him look her over, she had seen the look in his eyes. He'd been looking for the sign that it was the news he had been waiting for. Though her body would show no obvious weight yet. Though it wouldn't be long.

"Well I'm not sure you'll want a Kalona, no matter how sweet, around for a little while." She teased, her voice playful.

Serren laughed huskily as her tail snapped gentle against his leg, not even hard enough to sting, and then she seemed to prance and dance around him, her body sleek and lithe as she slid into the water, a look of peace on her face, and he felt like he might explode from the tension that sparked between them, even if it was good news. “Tease,” he smirked, taking off after her and splashing into the water, letting out a huge sigh of relief as the cool water lapped at his chest and legs, cleansing them of the mud he’d splattered there earlier in his run. The water was not deep, true, but he still kicked off the bottom of the pool and moved in a circle around her, eyes intent on her words, on her voice, on her face. And when she spoke, he stopped swimming. He came up to her, pressing his forehead against hers. “Don’t mess with me,” he said and it was almost a growl. He didn’t want to get his hopes up. “Don’t tell me anything less than the truth, Vitania… Are you… Are we…?” He couldn’t find the words, throat tightening. “When?”

She shivered when he pressed his forehead to hers, batting her eyes coquettishly. She loved when he got serious, he had a flame in those eyes that would burn her soul and she loved it. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. Then she released the breath and her eyes opened and met his again.

"We are," she answered, and the smile was warm on her muzzle. She had the look of a lover, and a mother, all in one. She'd not been the greatest mother, she was selfish sometimes, but she had tried, and her children loved her all the same.

"Soon, I think. I've been hungrier for quite a few days now. I hadn't wanted to say anything." She looked at her hooves, her forehead pulling away from his, nervously as she spoke. She did doubt herself sometimes, though only Serren ever saw that part.

"In case it was a fluke, or something." She said, and found that the feeling between them was so strong she didn't want to meet his eyes again for a moment. Not sure her heart could stand it. She felt like she was a bucket of nerves, and she couldn't shake them. She knew he wanted foals.
She knew she wanted foals. But that didn't mean he wouldn't have doubts, doubts she didn't really want to see first hand. Though she knew it was incredibly silly of her to think that way.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 30, 2015 7:05 pm

Her words sung through him, a summer’s promise, and he couldn’t breathe as if the breath had caught in his throat and lodged there and for a moment, he feared he’d never breathe again. Sudden panic struck him--reality setting in quickly, even if it was a reality he’d been hoping for--and his grin was sheepish and surprised. “Well… Damn,” he murmured, shaking his head as she became almost nervous, suddenly shy towards him and he melted all over again. He grinned impishly, nipping at her neck before tugging her closer by a lock of her hair. “It’s a good damn. A real good damn.” He laughed and swam another circle around her, letting it sink in. They were going to have babies… Soon. “You’re sure? Positive?” It was his turn to second guess, his eyes skimming over her sides, trying to see if she was any bigger than she’d always been. With that first batch, she’d gotten round…and a bit bitchy, but he’d loved her nonetheless. He was a patient guy. His grin was broad. “Oh, Vittie… This is good. I’ll admit, being around Ciaran and Cedric, it made me want a batch to call our own.” But the stars just hadn’t been kind. It hadn’t been the right time, apparently.

He nipped at her mane, and she looked up to find him with a big dopey smile on his features. She found the smile contagious, as a similar one spread across her cheeks and she felt herself laugh the nervousness off. He swam around her, and her head followed him as he did. Watching him move, the muscles in his body under his skin. It was a beautiful sight, and what was more, was this was the look of a soon to be father, and it gave a whole new soft look to him.

"I'm absolutely sure." She chuckled. "And within a week or two, you won't be able to think otherwise. I'm bound to be huge all over again." She sighed, letting out the breath she was holding. She hadn't really liked being pregnant, it made her huge, her ankles would swell, and she felt her face got chubbier. But she had loved being a mother, and it had all been worth it in the end.

"I know you did. We did. I was starting to feel like I'd never be able to give you what you wanted again, Serren. It was a terrible feeling." She opened up just a little, the mare who never really let her feelings out, already throwing her feelings at him in all their glory.

PostPosted: Sun Aug 30, 2015 7:20 pm

He laughed, soft and relieved and happy all at once. “Aww, Vittie. I loved it when you got all big and fluffy, carrying our beautiful babies inside…” He grinned and nuzzled up next to her, one wing stretching out to wrap around her, feathers tickling over her back. “Even if you were a little bit grumpy… They were worth it. And they’ll be worth it this time, I promise you that. Even if you don’t believe me, you were a good momma.” He nuzzled her neck, breathing in her soft scent. “And don’t ever think that I could hate you for not being able to give me what I wanted.” His tone was scolding. “I love you. I’ve loved you since the day I laid eyes on you. You are mine, Vitania, and I am yours. And these babies will be loved.” He dipped his nose into the water then, splashing at her, a wicked grin on his face. “I’ll be here for you, through it all.”

He spoke his words, and she felt herself melting against his body with her own. She rested her head against his cheek, closing her eyes and just allowing herself to feel his warmth and solid feel under her.

"I'm not sure at all how I got so lucky, Serren. But I don't know what I'd do without you." She cooed, and nipped at his jaw before pulling away.

"Come on, let's go sleep. I could use a good nap." She didn't want to be alone particulatly, either. "And I love you, you punk. More than you'd ever imagine." She pulled her body from the water, and looked behind her to wink at him.
"Now come on, don't be a turtle." She grinned, and began heading for home.
