General Merlinite was perched in a tree in the park, though he knew that was not the best idea. He had been holed up too long, though, after being injured by Painite and then going to Camelot's wonder to heal and hide for a while. Then he just spent time in his home under the library. While it was nice to be safe, it was... difficult.

He was getting a little stir crazy.

Well, a lot stir crazy.

Spreading his wing out, standing up on the sturdy branch and reaching for a higher one, Merlinite felt much better. He was able to stretch his muscles a bit, prowl around and he was hoping he might find a senshi or a knight to help patrol with.

They were always surprised when he offered, and explained he was on their side and not the Negaverse's. After all, his aura was incredibly chaotic, with him being a General, and half a youma. It made his aura twist in a very unsavory way, so he could not blame the White Moon for being skeptical of him.

But he was trying. He wanted to prove that he was a good guy, that he was someone the White Moon could count on. He just had to figure out a way to earn their trust a little easier.

She shouldn't have approached, it wasn't wise, but the chaotic aura she felt was just so odd she found it hard t help herself from investigating.

Despite the nervous protest that came from the dainty cat draped over one shoulder. "It's be alright, haddy," she assured him, petting one of his ears. "I just want to see what it is, then we'll disappear again, quick as a bunny." A turn of her head let her kiss his cheek.

"Besides, they can't feel us coming, you hide my aura." It was one of the reasons Chaonis did not grouch more about her being off on her own. He didn't like it, probably never would, but the guardian cat's presence hid her from whoever might have been out there looking for her. They would have had to be very lucky to simply stumble upon her, but she'd feel them coming first.

This aura though, it wasn't anything she'd felt before. And yet, there was something about it that nagged at her.

With a thoughtful frown she neared the tree, glancing around the base of the trunk before tipping her head up to look among the branches. Even with the wing, the tail, it took her a moment to spot him, and when she did she gasped, hand coming up to snap over her own lips to stifle the sound.

Hadaya nuzzled his face against Navi's shoulder, tucked in as close to her neck as he could get. He shook his head, ears flat down against his head.

"Something doesn't feel right. That aura... it's so... I don't like it. I don't think we should go near it, Navi!"

As scared as he was for himself, he was also very much aware that he was supposed to be guarding Navi. That was his one calling, he had decided, and he was bounded with her in a way he had not experienced before. She was HIS senshi, and he did not want to see anything happen to her. This twisted, unfamiliar Chaos aura was most certainly not something he wanted her to go and deal with all alone.

Maybe if they went and got Chaonis... or Camelot... yeah, a Royal Knight would be nice right about now.

He stopped his protest, though, the closer they got to it. After all, he didn't want to give her away, if the thing was as dangerous as he felt it was.

Merlinite, meanwhile, could not feel their approach, and nearly jumped out of his scales at the gasp. The sound came out of no where, and he lost his balance on the branch before he spotted the source, plopping onto the ground with a useless flap of his wing. Groaning, he pushed himself up into a crouch, looking like a gargoyle, and stared up at Navi.

He frowned thoughtfully at her, confused.

"Uh... hi."

Her grip on Hadaya tightened as the thing in the tree moved in response to her gasp, apparently startled, and fell. She backed up a step, the hand that was already up lowering to press against the back of the cat's head protectively.

it was as he straightened up into a crouch, head lifting, that she realized why his aura held that faintly familiar taste. Even with the scales and the horn, his features were still the same. Still Merlinite. Navi couldn't have forgotten him, not for anything. Days spent with the agent, of him trying to help her as best as he could with the fear of Painite's awful retribution hanging over his head.

The girl bit her lip as she looked him over, chest hurting as she took in every awful twist and change she could see on him. What...what happened?

"Merlinite?" Her grip on Haddy loosened, as she took a step towards him, then another. "What happened to you?" She thought...she hoped, that he'd gotten away from the negaverse. That he'd run, found Camelot, purified perhaps.

Merlinite looked at Navi for a long moment, realizing that the White Moon senshi he was looking at was actually a very familiar one. Though she had not been White Moon before, when Painite captured her. No, she had been a Dark Mirror, though a lot of White Moon had come to her rescue. It was not surprising, then, that she had managed to purify.

He was happy for her, and offered her a sheepish smile.

There was still a lot that he had to make up for. He felt very responsible for how much she had to suffer, considering he should have done more to free her when Painite had her captive. Instead, he was too scared to act.

It was still one of his greatest shames, and the reason he was working so hard now to help the White Moon, and prove himself a better person than he had been. Even though Chaos had done its best to keep him in its grasp, he did what he could to defy them.

"Uh. Well. I guess... Painite wasn't very happy when she found out I wanted to purify so... she sort of. Corrupted me more. Uh. But I'm not with them anymore. I mostly stay hidden and Camelot helps me out."

She wasn't hesitant now, though perhaps she might have been. Navi remembered the scared soldier though, the kindly coward that had done what he could to help her, at great risk to himself. It made her bold, and she walked closer now, quickly, shifting the cat in her arms to nudge him up to lay across her should so she'd have her hands free.

He'd wanted to purify. He'd wanted to escape Painite and chaos, he'd tried to leave, and that woman--that b***h--had twisted him into this? It was tragic. No, it was heartbreaking. Navi's chest ached to look at him.

"Oh, Merlinite..." A small hand came up as if she meant to touch his face, but she stopped just short, not sure if he'd let her.

It was a relief to hear that Camelot had been helping him, but she wished she had known. Now that she did, maybe she could help as well? How, she wasn't sure, but she would do whatever she could for him.

Hadaya did his best not to claw the hell out of her shoulder as Navi shifted him to sit on it, though he needed to hold on with his claws despite his best efforts. Still, he hoped he was getting more fabric than her shoulder, because he was a bit too nervous to really control how tightly his little paws were digging in.

He was still not sure he trusted this half monster thing, and kept his eyes wide and his fur prickled upwards in awareness. Even if he was scared, he would protect Navi!

Merlinite flinched a bit as Navi reached for him, but the contact never came. He offered her a tight smile, nervous, hiding his fangs as best he could.

"Hey, don't worry about all that. It happened, right? And I mean. I'm still freer from the Negaverse than I was. I'm pretty lucky, really. But look at you! You purified! You even have a fluffy... uh. Friend. You look like you really fit in those white duds, you know? Being a white moon senshi, I mean. How do you feel?"

Navi only gave the slightest indication that Haddy's claws bothered her, but she made a mental note to give them a little trim when they got home later. Just to take that needling little point off the ends. Bless his sweet little heart, she knew he didn't prickle her on purpose.

The flinch had her hand drawing back, and after a moment she let it fall to her side again, the other resting over her heart as she looked up at him. Seeing him like this made her want to cry, and here he was, smiling and complimenting her on her good fortune. It just wasn't fair, not at all. And Navi didn't know if there was anything she or anyone else could do about it.

The smallest of smiles touched her lips, but there wasn't much happiness to it. How could she be happy for herself when he stood there like that? What sort of a life was this to live? "Thank you." She was't sure what else to say. Anything else seemed as though it'd be too cruel.

Ah, but she could introduce the frightened little fluff ball on her shoulder. Turning her head, she kissed his sweet little kitten cheek. "Hadaya, this is Merlinite. He once helped to save my life."

Hadaya leaned against her face as she turned to give him a little kiss on the cheek, probably giving her much more fur than she expected. He just wanted to be close, because he was so nervous. His eyes were as wide as they physically could be, perhaps a little bit more, his ears basically invisible as they laid completely flat against his head.

Merlinite watched the little cat, tilting his head.

"Don't worry, Hadaya. I'm not going to eat you or anything. You can even call me Dennis now. I don't really go by Merlinite any more." He glanced at Navi, too, nodding at her to let her know she could call him that, as well.

Merlinite was dead, even if he was forced to stay on the side of Chaos.

"Why would you say eat me? No one said anything about eating until you brought it up!" Hadaya squeaked, scooting closer against Navi's neck, trying to disappear into her hair. "Don't eat me! Oh... you uhm. Uh. And... thank you... for... helping Navi... but don't eat me!"

Merlinite sighed and shook his head, lifting a clawed hand to scratch the back of his own neck idly. He doubted Hadaya would want him petting him, so he didn't even try.

"Navi, I just... I just wanted to say how sorry I am that I let Painite get away with so much before... before I even tried to help. And I'm sorry I spent so much time being scared and stupid. You had to go through way too much before I really figured out how wrong it all was. It shouldn't have happened."

"It's alright Haddy. He won't hurt us." She understood the poor things fear. Merl- no, Dennis, didn't exactly look harmless. He might not have been acting threatening, but his very appearance, to a little cat, was probably worrying. She stroked between his ears again, smiling as he thanked the general for his assistance in saving her.

To Dennis she offered an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry. He's nervous." Nervous enough she felt the prickle of his claws through her fuku, where normally she did not.

The apology made her frown thoughtfully, and she took her head. "No, yo don't need to apologize. You did what you could under the circumstances. If you'd done more, she'd have hurt you, or worse, and then you wouldn't have been there at all. I don't know what I would have done with out you."

Of course, while they were offering regret for things that had happened... "I am very sorry Chaonis punched you." The other senshi hadn't known he was attacking someone friendly at the time, but that didn't make it alright.

Hadaya trusted Navi, and Merlinite seemed nice enough, but it was hard for him to look past the way the half youma appeared, or to ignore the strange, twisted aura he gave off. Nothing about this situation was particularly comforting.

Except the cuddles he was getting from Navi, to reassure him. He nuzzled against her hand when he felt her fingers on his head.

Merlinite didn't blame the little thing for being nervous, though he had not anticipated just how much of a scaredy cat he was going to be. Poor little thing. He supposed having such short legs and being so round and small did not really help him in dangerous situations.

He'd almost forgotten about that very devastating punch Chaonis had delivered to him during the whole final escape effort. He rubbed his jaw thoughtfully when she apologized for it, shaking his head and offering her a toothy grin.

With fangs.

"Oh, no worries. I deserved it, in a few different ways. Hey, I'm glad we can... you know... talk about it and all that. I didn't think we'd both still be here, you know? Anyway, if you ever need help, I'm still going to try to make up for things: I'll do whatever I can, whenever you need me, okay? Think of me as your own personal half youma."

Taking pity on Haddy, navi tucked hands beneath him and lifted him from her shoulder so she could cradle him against her chest, fingers massaging gently against the back of his little neck. He was shaking like a leaf, the poor dear. In her arms, she knew he'd feel a little better.

She'd smile back at the half-youma in turn, chuckling softly before once again shaking her head. "You didn't, really. Not that hard. He's just..." She paused, mulling over a word. "Over protective, where I'm concerned." A small shrug. "I can't say that I really blame. It's been quite the hard year up til now. "Calamity after calamity. It was a wonder Navi had made it this far. It was a wonder they all had.

"I am glad to see you made it out alright. Even if this happened." A small hand gestured towards him, indicating the wing, the tail, all o fit. "You seem happier, at least." Which was something.

"If there was anything I could do to help...?" Somehow she doubted it. If Camelot hadn't come up with a solution yet, then Navi wasn't sure she'd be able to. All the same. "I could bring you things, if you needed? Food, or other things?"

Merlinite swung his tail behind him thoughtfully, looking down at his claws and flexing them a bit as he considered himself. She was surprisingly right, he realized: he was a lot happier now than when he had been human. Sure, he was a monster all the time now and as far as he knew he could not power down, but he had a pretty okay life now.

He lived under the library, with plenty of books to read, electricity and the basic amenities of a home... without any bills to pay. He did not have a daily job to trudge through any more, and instead worked nights with, well... a knight.

Really, things were much better than they had been.

"Oh, it's okay, I have plenty of stuff! Everyone has been really nice, and a lot of senshi and knights keep me well fed and taken care of. I'm really kinda surprised by how accepting everyone is of a half youma general... but they believe me when I say I want to help, and I'm just trying to make sure I earn that trust properly."

He smiled, looking at Hadaya as the cat buried his face against Navi's chest and refused to come out of the little ball of fur he now formed.

"Maybe uh... I should let you two go. Not sure how much more that little guy's heart can take."

The news that he was doing well did wonders to sooth the senshi of tumbleweeds. If he was happy, she was happy for him. It still hurt to see him like this, to know his life would forever be changed because of it, but he seemed to really be making the most of it, and that was certainly something to admire. Navi smiled up at him, stroking fingers between Haddy's ears as she did so. "All the same, if there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask." She owed him a lot, though even if that hadn't been the case she'd have been happy to help.

Mention of the cat in her arms had her looking down at hi,, and Navi's smile turned a little lopsided as she tucked her hands up under his little arms and lifted him up so she could kiss his nose. "I suppose you're right," she answered, then spoke to Hadaya himself. "Are you ready to go home?" It was getting pretty late, Chaonis was probably wondering where they had gotten off to.

Hell, if she didn't get back soon he'd have the entire family out searching for her. He'd gotten a touch over protective since her last run in with Painite. Not that Navi could blame him.

"I live with Camelot. If you need anything from me, you can get a hold of me through him." Maybe she shouldn't have shared that, but she doubted that knowledge could really be used against her, or Camelot and his family. Not unless someone knew where the elder knight lived, and that would be a whole different set of problems.

Hadaya looked at Navi helplessly, nodding his head a little and letting out a little mew of a 'yes' to indicate that he was ready to go home. Maybe he would ask Camelot more about this youma living in the library's basement, but for tonight, he'd had just about as much as he could take of the nega's weird, twisted aura.

Plus, he had a wing and a tail and horns and fangs and claws: none of those were on Hadaya's mental list of things that were safe and good.

Anyway, as far as he knew, Chaos could make someone evil against their will. How long would Merlinite be able to ignore that? What if it just... took over him or made him a whole youma? Hadaya did not want Navi around for that, should it happen. Still, it seemed to make her happy to be talking to the Nega, and Hadaya would do his best to understand and support her... and the friends she made.

Merlinite lit up, nodding his head when he heard she lived with Camelot. That was good. Everyone together, staying safe and strong. There was definitely a lot to be said about the power of a group of senshi and knights. And to know Navi had the Royal Knight looking out for her, who had been put up on a pretty high pedestal in his mind, went a long way in helping him think that maybe things would finally get better.

"Alright, I'll let him know! He already lets me meet up with some of the senshi and knights he helps out, so I can help them spar and stuff, so that's good. We're like a very weird family. I guess I'm like a pet, like the little guy there." He laughed at that, swishing his tail behind him. He grinned, then moved to head back toward the library, to climb up the wall.
