The summer heat had been unbearable.. The worst of it had been when she'd wandered into what seemed to be a subtropic sort of zone.. The humidity had been near stifling, and that had nothing to say to what it had done to her mane and tail.. She'd been trudging through all the humidity and heat for days. Still no word, not even a single sign of the one thing she'd searched for.

Now that she had finally emerged from the heavy undergrowth of foliage and humidity and rain, she was making her way towards more heavily wooded areas to continue her search. her wings she held fanned out, catching the sun and more or less trying to make sure they would finally dry out from all the moisture they'd seen. "Confounded...." She murmurer to herself as she stumbled and crow hopped sideways from kicking a small stick. She'd been caught up in her mind again and startled herself.

Time for adventure! Summer days were of much promise with plenty of time to roll around blissfully in the long grass. Seemed only yesterday he stepped forward spreading those unique wings in the sun and learning what it was to float upon the breeze. Refreshing with a peculiar dose of excitement made things perfect. Thinking back he fluttered those leaf-like appendages carrying himself along in the breeze. Where would he go today? What would he find? His mind was a flutter of questions that swirled around him in a breeze of wonderment.

His train of thought though paused as something caught his eye. For a moment it was a brown moving object but it cleared quickly into a delicate looking soquili whom seemed to have a bit of trouble. Catching another breeze he spread his wings outward so he floated to the ground light as a feather. Once his hooves hit the ground he trotted over to the other, "Are you alright? I saw you stumble a few minutes back there."

His parents had taught him to be polite with any strangers unless they intended harm. Then you ran like the wind or you risked your life standing up against it. Either way he hoped looks weren't deceiving this round.

Her eyes were wide when she saw the stallion before her now. She hadn't been paying that much attention to where she was obviously, other wise how could she have missed the fact that she hadn't been alone? "I'm fine.. just.. kicked a stick... it tripped me up some." She spoke sheepishly. "It really isn't the first time I've done it to be honest.. I really should pay more attention to where I'm going."

The flutter stallion looked at the stick with a scolding face. Such a mean stick to attack someone. Perhaps he was overdoing it a bit but Angelou wanted her to not feel like she was stupid or overly silly. Walking toward her he grasped the stick between his teeth and threw it off to the side.

"There we go. That stick owed you an apology but it opted to be removed." he nodded looking back at her with a smile, "I'm Angelou by the way. What's your name if I may ask?" he queried keeping full attention on her with bright glowing orbs. This was his first outing away from his mother's watchful eye and he deemed it hopeful friendship with this mare.

"I'm an adventurer like my parents. I'm also practicing to be a great guide if you're in need of someone to keep you company." He nodded and bowed his head as his wings fanned behind him letting his whole form move in a slow arch to show her his respect. Never once did his eyes leave hers for it was his way of offering full friendship in her presence.

She tilted her head off to the side with a look of mild amusement before finally chuckling as he spoke. "Ah well.. Suppose it did.. It's better to be out of the way now than to trip some other poor soquili up." She offered a friendly smile. "I'm Lightning.. Though I go by Whinny..." She nodded her head in greeting, careful so as not to catch him with her horn. Flexing her wings, she folded them lightly at her sides. At least they were fully dry feeling and less soggy.

"You're training to be a guide?" Now that might be just the break she'd needed. "You haven't by chance seen any wandering two-leggers around? I've been looking for one you see.." It was a one in a million shot that perhaps there could be and even if there were, the chances were even more slim that she'd find the right one.

He listened to her his deep eyes soaking in her words as was his attentive ears as they swiveled listening to her dilemma. He thought on her query quite a bit letting several vivid images travel through his mind.

"Wandering two-leggers...." he paused with a flick of his ear, "I've seen them yes. A lot of them infact". This his response was true and undaunted for her. He had indeed seen many a two-legger since his very being took in the sights of the Kwani villagers that roamed the land. His parents were very nurturing and understanding to his curiosity about many things in this brand new world.

"I'd almost guarantee that somewhere the one you're seeking is out there" he nodded, "and since I'm in training I'll be your guide. It's a great big world out there trust me. But, it's also scary and amazing at the same time. My parents have reminded me daily that things such as sticks can't compare to Kalona or walkers even."

His words rang with sincerity knowing she was a grown mare as he was a stallion but it was better to leave sleeping wolves lie. Because even the the most valiant will fall with one false thought or move.

"So...will you allow me to try and find your special two-legger? It will give me time to learn and you won't be alone in your quest", he nodded then bowed his head, "I am at your service M'lady if you wish it"

He hoped she'd accept for it would be his first real adventure. Not to mention his parents would be most proud of him falling into his father's footsteps.

She smiled wide when she'd heard that some one knew where to find the two-leggers. Her last guide hadn't stayed too long so She still wasn't sure she'd find them till now. "That.. would be amazing!" She hopped slightly in her excitement. "I was beginning to think that I'd be wandering around for ever and still not see a two-legger one." She dipped her head slightly. "Thank you very much.. It's very kind of you to drop everything to help me out in my search."

Tilting her head to the side slightly she listened to the last bit of kalonas and walkers alike. "Oh yes I agree.. A stick has nothing on the threats of those beasts..." She's been in her own scuffle already once since she came to this land. She'd had to shrink to get away from her attacker and even then a stallion had intervened and saved her still.

The smaller stallion chuckled, "Really it's my pleasure if i can help you in anyway Whinny" he smiled then dipped his head toward her. It seemed silly in some eyes but his father was rumored to be a King not to mention Kiros a fellow herd member was training as well. Being a knight was an honor and a great praise. He was young yes but you learned from your mistakes.

"I will help you search as long as it takes. Remember though I'm a new knight so if I mess up or lead you in a wrong direction I sincerely apologize". This one little thing made his mother muse on his manners. He picked up things quickly and righted wrongs. Yuuri his father thought that was a bit amusing his youngest son wanted to be a knight.

"Precisely..." His head nodded in agreement, "I think though we should gather supplies before the journey. Winter is coming along with other things and I feel we'd be better with preparations then nothing at all. It's a short trip back to my Home which i'm sure the two-legger there can give us some carrying bags and such", now his eyes were brighter with his words.

"Both my parents are adventurers. That's how they met one another and taught my siblings and I much needed information when it comes to an unknown journey". He turned his head with a flick of an ear, " M'Lady whinny will you accompany me back to get provisions and adventuring supplies? I'm pretty sure Tirranna has winter apples if you'd like a treat."

He bowed his head awaiting her response.

She mused lightly about his excitement. It was good to see some one else interested in seeing the unknown... but then again that was one of the good things about her long search, she'd been able to see so many wonderful things. "Provisions for the journey sound like a wonderful idea." She smiled and fell in behind him. "Lead the way."

Giving her wings a slight flutter, she pondered his words about winter being on it's way. If this winter was as harsh as the last one she endured, she'd surely be in need of something to cover her wings and keep the delicate things from freezing over. "Speaking of winter... Do you think we could manage to take with us something to cover our wings? Last year I had to hold up some place so my wings wouldn't freeze." She supposed that if worst came to worst they could hunker down.. but if they weren't barred by a storm perhaps they could get by with just keeping them covered.

His heart was beating like mad. His first real quest he could relay to his parents and family. Something an apprentice knight could truly place on his accomplishments not to mention resume for future gatherings and legends sang of old. He was so proud he'd finally found something that could help his name and title.

"Alright then follow me", he spoke with a curtly nod, "Fear not fair maiden the supplies are not far away". He then started walking off toward the teepee staying one step in front of her noting if there were any treacherous rocks or evil intent sticks to thwart this perilous quest.

He listened to her concern with reassurance, "The road may be long and riddled with twists and turns but, we will seek out the truth". He breathed a deep sigh kicking sticks to the side and limbs of trees that had met a fate such as death (or rather broke from the trees in storms or elder ages). No matter what the cause was it was sorrowful to him to see such a sight.

While yes they could have fluttered to their destination her query of the coming winter concerned him. He would seek out assistance from the indian maiden for some gloves to place upon their wings. Almost like a glove if you will but specific for wings themselves. Heck, even if they did indeed get snowed in somewhere a furry blanket would suffice just fine.

"The maiden or two-legger as you'd call her is named Tirranna. The elder mare that lives with her can't fully communicate but has a knack for understanding. In any case she'll have something we can use along with provisions", he nodded to her still staying a step ahead never losing track she was there.

He smiled and walked on his wings lowering when trees got to clingy or bunched them tight when trees really got grabby. They seemed paper thin but in actually his wings were strangely strong like his mother.

"So on our way there care to pass time with some idle conversation M'Lady Whinny? You can tell me more of your two-legger so I have an even better idea what I'm seeking for you, "he flicked an ear then swished his tail, "I can do the same for you as to why I chose to be a knight".

Stifling a giggle, she fell into step beside him tucking her wings carefully by her side. "You live that close by?" Well this was an interesting turn of events. She'd been so close to a two-legger and she hadn't even noticed. This troubled her slightly. What other two-leggers had she missed the existence of in her wandering?

Her mind snapped back as he prattled on about the elder mare. "I see so a few of you live with a two-legger? That's interesting." She smiled slightly. "Even a blanket or throw to block out some of the frosty bite would be a help really.."

Carefully, she chose her way around the branches and trees, dipping her head as limbs attempted to grab at her horn and mane. " Please, just call me Whinny. She was very kind.. rather small for a two-legger female I've ever seen. Not like she was dwarfed or anything.. She saved my basket when I was abandoned and raised me up for the good part of it.. She'd even tussle with the boys in the village when they were mean to me." A true smile drew across her face as she reflected some. "Her hair was like a deep rich brown.. but not quite.. it reflected reddish gold hints when the sun hit it, and always looked a mess. Like she'd never attempted to tame it a day in her life."

She paused momentarily. "You're sure though? That you want to leave your family's side that is.. We may be gone for a very long time.. Won't you be terribly missed?" She wanted to be certain that he understood the length that this journey might take.

His true calling finally a footfall away! He was so excited to hurry home and breathe aloud that he was finally to become a knight helping his first damsel in distress. Word had definitely gone around when Kiros had found his quest so now it was Angelou's turn.

"Live with a two-legger?" he responded in a daze, "Oh yeah Tirranna is Celendria's best friend. Took a bit to get used to but she just became one with the herd I guess you could say".

The stallion looked out over the horizon with a definite determined smile. A long time was indeed something to ponder but Angelou had the heart and mindset of his parents who had left near the end of fall once their children had fully grown. His mother was dedicated and nurturing but her heart and soul was weaved into a longing for the unknown. His father was her knight, more so a king in reality but foremost her protector. He loved adventure as much as she but Yuuri just loved being beside his mate's side. Angelou dreamed someday to find a spirited partner that would travel and see the world with him but in truth fate is a fickle thing. Kiro's mate rarely went anywhere though he never left her side. Perhaps the same would be required of Angelou some day.

"Alright then Whinny.. but don't be cross if I still say Lady or Mi'Lady as your title for it's more of the role to do so. Far as my family" , he paused looking out at the horizon again, "Their hearts are free spirits. If adventure ever died I don't know what would happen to them". That was painful to think of which he dare not dwell on. His mother lived for the treasure, the sights, and sounds of the unknown. He'd never want to see her depressed and broken. His poor father would crumble if Feena ever lost her thirst to live.

He smiled warmly, "They'd want me to succeed in my quest even if it took me to the world and back. That's just what knight's do...".

She wondered what it must have been like having adventurers as parents. What was it like? Parents all together.. the whole idea of having an actual family. The answer was that she didn't know. She had an Idea she supposed.. their attachment and fondness for Angelou had to be like that of her and her two-legger.

"I'm glad they understand and are reasonable. They sound like a very nice family." She smiled dipping her head once more to avoid a limb. "the rabbits have had heavier fur on their feet this year.. should be a cold winter.. we might need to be more careful." She fell to silence once more wondering. "How many siblings do you have?? What's it like.. having siblings I mean."

Angelou led the way though his footfalls were never more than a few feet from her. A knight enacting a lady's quest had to be vigilant, conversational, and overall chivalrous in their attempt to see the quest completed. Essentially, he was a mere apprentice behind his father a high King. He was also a squire in a sense still learning the ropes and being disciplined as he learned in life. Age old tales were a must in which he learned about past figures and their mighty feats. He wanted to be a knight tried and true but in reality Angelou was a foal among stallions compared to his ancestors. He really had no idea though of his father's background just that he was a mighty King who had become a knight marrying his beloved. Fairytales some may call it but for an aspiring optimist it seemed like a truly vivid lucrative dream.

"My parents are amazing. They've been through quite a lot and keep heading out for new perils and adventures". He beamed proudly speaking of his bloodline with much adoration.

"Far as my siblings well there's a good bit. Let's see I have three other brothers and two sisters", he nodded. "Isamu, Kamui, Ehren, Laine, and Elidah. I never really got to meet Kamui or Ehren sadly because they took off for some other land as soon as they were on their own. Isamu is out with his mate and Elidah is out seeing someone. Guess you could say the family comes and goes when it pleases. We're pretty tight knit though even when things look rough."

He then looked at her curiously, "Do you have family Whinny?"

Angelou hoped he wasn't being too forward. If a lady wanted to disclose information she would if not it would be your reward when she deemed you worthy. He admitted though in a journey that would take years possibly it's better to know your company rather than to walk with the unknown.
