Train Car #2

Boarding went smoothly. Passengers boarded at a calm clip and joined those already present until the car reached slightly beyond comfortable capacity. Strangers stood shoulder to shoulder in the standing areas, though they left enough room in the aisle to accommodate people wishing to change seats. All seats were soon filled, with two to a row on either side of the aisle. Capacity was twenty-eight for seating, leaving the car packed with around forty denizens in the midst of prime travel time.

Each seat was of simple ergonomic design with violet carpeted seat covers. The lot of them faced forward with narrow leg room so taller passengers often stood. Each row received a letter, and each seat received a number - seats started in the top left with A1, following each subsequent letter in the alphabet, and ended in F4 at the bottom right. A simple metal label mounted to the top of the seat confirmed the row and seat number - an outmoded practice from the times when the subway issued assigned seats - but the numbers no longer mattered in free seating. There are privacy screens toward the back of the car for people who intend to sleep until they reach their next stop and want to do so without prying eyes.

Agents who boarded these trains were given orders to take seating, as the slumping inherent from a starseed stolen could easily pass as sleep. Standing parties proved the much riskier targets, and Brimstone warned that stealth was tantamount to the mission's success. Pulling from standing individuals should only be done in a time of dire need, and if the operation reached that point, then meeting up with a Captain or General (or constituent senshi) was the far better plan. General Brimstone also prided himself on how he staffed participating agents among the cars, citing that he left an officer who can teleport among every car.

General Brimstone also composed the organization for this operation at three in the morning, so he felt particularly proud that day.

The trains progressed in a large completed circuit, so anyone who missed their stop would be able to reach it by simply waiting on the train until it circled back around. The train always stopped at each platform on its route, eliminating the need for the bell alerts like on busses. This rendered the subway both dependable and predictable, thus earning its common use.

Of course, the fact that it hadn't yet been the target of terrorist activity warmed people's hearts greatly.

Rules, Explanations, and tl;dr

_______Rules

  • Please be courteous to other participants! This event is meant to be fun, and godmodding and bad attitudes are akin to shitting on the birthday cake.
  • Try not to jump out of the train or otherwise break out. You'll splatter. You don't want this.
  • The train cars are controlled remotely, so it's not possible to sabotage or reverse the effects on the train.

_______Phase 1

There will be a rolling component to this part of the event!

  1. All Negaverse agents (and Mintaka) start with a stealth value of 120. When this number reaches 0, you have been discovered! It is up to the owners of the Negaverse agents to keep track of this number.
  2. All Negaverse agents (and Mintaka) must randomize 1-5 if they are attempting to grab a starseed (or drain energy in Mintaka's case). This number is subtracted from your stealth value. For the purpose of this event, starseed pulls are auto-success (as is Mintaka's energy grab).
  3. All participating anti-Negaverse characters may randomize 1-5 to denote their suspicion of any one Negaverse agent. You can only suspect one person at a time, as is the nature of human focus.
  4. Anti-Negaverse characters are allowed to power up at any time. Any anti-Negaverse character transformation will immediately drop all stealth values to 0 and end the rolling portion of this event. Likewise, transformation is highly advised when a Negaverse agent's stealth value reaches 0! If you transform or your stealth value reaches 0, please use the code on the front page to quote all parties in the thread to let them know that the rolling portion has concluded (and quote me too please)!

  • There is no need to wait for a Negaverse agent to make the first roll. There are some pretty suspicious-looking outfits out there!
  • There is no cooldown on posts, but please be courteous about rolling!
  • There is no need to keep a total on your 1-5 rolls!
  • You do not have to participate in rolling to participate in this part of the event!
  • The rolling portion also has a built-in timer to prevent it from dragging on forever!

Example: Lt. Deviline rolls to pull a starseed. Lt. Deviline randomizes a 3, which is subtracted from his stealth value. Originally at 120, his stealth value drops to 117. Lorne (Mont Blonc) sees something funny going on when watching this mysterious dude in a track suit (Deviline) and randomizes a number. Lorne randomizes a 5, which is subtracted from Deviline's stealth value and drops it to 112.

Example: Two agents are acting strangely up near the front of the car. Snowball sees this and randomizes a number, but that roll only affects whichever agent Snowball chooses.

Example: Caledonite, Rebalite and Stibnite all have varying stealth values from pulling starseeds and gathering suspicion. Dmitry rolls on Stibnite and sends her stealth value to 0.

Whew, that's pretty daunting! Please PM me if you have questions about the rolling!

_______tl;dr

Powered-down characters enter a subway car with the rest of the crowd, as do Negaverse agents. The agents start pulling starseeds. Between action rolls on part of the Negaverse agent and suspicion rolls on part of the powered-down group, they nuke the Negaverse agent's stealth value and then everyone powers up and all hell breaks loose around these poor, traumatized civilians. Way to go, assholes!

Communication

Every powered character has the ability to communicate with other characters outside of this thread! Whether that's via standard cell phone, knight signet ring, senshi cell phone, or Negaverse crystal is up to you!

Communication is good for letting others know which train a character is on, and to notify others that something might be up on said train. This will become especially useful when strange things start happening to the train! Communication is optional, but giving someone on the platform a status update might help stop the car!

Communication becomes significant at a later date (after the roll portion has concluded)!

In order to chat with someone on the platform, please quote the player with the text or verbal message that their character receives. Be sure to denote which of their characters you're chatting with, as they may have multiple characters in the platform area!

Likewise, chatting is completely optional! Your characters can remain asocial for the whole of the event if they please!

Chailee maneuvered around the people boarding the train to snag herself a seat fairly close to the doors she had just entered from. Her petite frame made the seating arrangements fairly comfortable though , of course, she was forced to sit with her messenger bag hugged against her on her lap so that other passengers could take up the surrounding seats.

She was slightly miffed that she had forgotten to pack a new book. The one tucked safely in her bag she had finished yesterday while out at at a cafe and had neglected to take it out. There wasn't much she could do to pass the time besides playing on her phone and people watching. Neither were anywhere near as interesting as a book would have been.

With a sigh she pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail while she still had some room around her. She knew from experience how stuffy the cars could get, especially if they filled up. Today looked like it was going to be one of those busy days too.

Leaning her head back against the window behind her she resigned herself to a fairly boring ride.

Rebalite patiently waited amongst the crowds of people as they filtered onto the train. Already it appeared that it was going to be a fairly full care. Excellent. It would make things easier for the mission.

Rebalite situated himself towards the back corner of the car. His height made it a bit awkward for him to sit, but orders were orders. Plus, he wasn't going to argue against sound instructions. It didn't take long for the seats beside him to fill up as well, and he quickly found himself feeling uncomfortable by the proximity of people and the heat. He had thrown on a long coat to hide his uniform, but also for the fact that said coat had fairly deep pockets.

A young woman to his left, who was nestled in the corner seat was already making herself comfortable. Headphones were in, her head was back against the seat, and her eyes were closed. Such a perfect opportunity that he wasn't about to miss.

Rebelite waited until any possible roving eyes were not in his direction before, with a practiced hand, he sunk his hand into the young womans chest, snagged her starseed, and placed his bounty into a pocket. At most, the woman looked like she had completely fallen asleep in moments.

Haven Sinclair was not used to being nice to Peter Gallo (though admittedly she wasn't mean to him on purpose, it just kind of happened unintentionally). She wasn't used to being friendly with him, she wasn't used to making plans with him, and she definitely wasn't used to meeting up with him on a whim. So the fact that she'd just spent the last few hours at the library going over her research with him felt odd to her.

Now they were on their way to their respective houses—Peter to his older brother's a few stops away, and Haven further out of town to her parents' house.

She managed to snag one of the last few empty seats just before the train car filled up, sitting with her messenger bag in her lap, clutching it close to her protectively. She felt awkward now that there was no way she and Peter could speak of powered things without being overheard. Those conversations were always easier for her to manage than traditional small talk.

Instead of trying to maintain their chatter, Haven sat and stared at her knees, lost in thoughts along the vein of 'I'm so awkward. This is awful. It's just Peter, there's nothing to be so uncomfortable about. Why am I making such a big deal about this? We've known each other since he moved in across the street when we were small.'

Yet no amount of internal reassurances made her feel any less out of place.

Stibnite had been one of the first onto her car, quickly taking a seat more in the back corner so that her eyes could watch who filled into the car and where. This was far from what she had wanted to do today but orders were orders. Last thing she wanted was them using her starseed (did she even have one?) in their experiments.

Not to mention she had been out of the loop for a few weeks so it wasn't like she could say no. Back into the action.

So she sat in her seat for a moment as others came around her. Eyes closed, hood pulled over. Lucky for Stibnite, her uniform looked like something kids wore these days.

As the car began to fill though, she used the sudden shuffling to her advantage. "Oh, sorry." She whispered, falling into the man to her left. What no one saw was as she pulled back and adjusted herself, she pocketed the first of the many starseeds to count. The man next to her appeared to have just slipped away to dream land.

Peter couldn’t want to get home and have the leftover lasagna his mother brought over for him and Michael. The downside to living with another guy like Michael was that he’d learned how to survive off things Peter wouldn’t consider sustainable for living. Chips and crackers and beer and protein shakes weren’t exactly at the top of his list. Thankfully their mother knew what it would be like and was easing him into living with Michael. Which was surprising because if she wanted him back, she could just… not feed them.

Oh right, and he was on a train with Haven riding back home. “So you never told me how your first week was. Is it true what they say about Crystal girls?” Peter wondered with a grin as he stood beside the chair Haven managed to snag. Some little old lady seemed to be asleep against the window, which was fine since they would be getting off pretty soon.

Silas was capable of driving, but sometimes there were occasions when someone else in the family needed the other car. When these occasions came around, he coped with minimal grumbling. He was a good walker, and there was always, of course, the trains. Today he had gone around town for some excursions and explorations, and the train would be what he used to get home. He plopped into a seat (one of the few left, anyway) and began fiddling with his phone and earbuds to get some music going for the ride home. He noted with chagrin that someone had put a crapton of Fall Out Boy in his music library. Sure, that kind of music was fun and all, but it wasn't entirely his style most of the time. He sighed, scrolled to the Metallica, and put Hero of the Day on play. Strong, but not too strong.

It was actually a rare thing for Drake to take the train. Most things were in walking or biking distance, and he generally preferred to take the bus. Something about being in a tunnel, in a moving tube just never sat well with him. Today though, he needed a quicker way across down; two accidents along the bus route, plus a bus out of service had forced the tall college aged young man into the subway.

He picked a seat near the doors, constantly glancing about in a mild "I'm trying to not panic" sort of way. His long black hair hung braided from the nape of his neck today, and he had a literature book open on his lap. Sea green eyes darted around, pausing on one rather gloom looking young lady with a hood. Drake frowned; generally a hood wouldn't give him pause but something was... odd today. Maybe it was the amount of people onboard, coupled with his already heightened worries about the tunnel collapsing on his head, or the train careening off the tracks.

He shrugged, trying to focus on his book instead.

Five minutes into the ride and not for the first time, Hitch was sorely regretting all of his choices today. 'Sore' was the key word; everything still ******** hurt. Yeah, he was healing, but not fast enough. Bruises alone took long enough to fade, and what he'd gotten was worse than that. He stared firmly down at his feet, teeth gritted, and sorely wished he hadn't slipped out alone. Yes it was a big day, yes he was getting the stitches out (probably), but ******** wouldn't it have been nice to have his lover's arm hooked in his own instead of strangers from every ******** he wanted a ******** he wanted to sit ********, he wanted to go home.

He squeezed his eyes shut, only to have them snap open when some poor soul just happened to bump him as the train rounded a turn, right into his ******** back, and he tensed, sucking a sharp breath between clenched teeth. "Can you watch where the ******** you're going?!" he snapped, because it was better to snap than to yelp and <******** this s**t okay.

Haven gave a start when Peter spoke to her and looked up at him in mild confusion before his comment processed through her overactive brain.

“If you mean to ask if they're all snobs, then yes, most of them are,” she said. And that was something coming from a girl who could probably be labeled a snob herself. Haven didn't think she was one, but her superior attitude often got her lumped in with all the other girls whether she approved of it or not.

“But my week was okay otherwise,” Haven continued. “Nothing much going on yet. Mostly just the usual introductory stuff. What about you? It must be nice going to Azure and being around a bunch of geniuses for a change.”

She found it difficult to keep looking at him without feeling that annoying sense of awkwardness again, so Haven glanced around the subway car to keep herself distracted. It was full of the usual variety of people—businessmen and women with their phones and briefcases, teenagers with their headphones jammed over their ears. There were a few people wearing clothes that didn't look suitable for the warm weather and the heat of an overcrowded subway car, but she dismissed it as an odd quirk and moved on.

There was one girl, though... she fell against the man next to her and seemed to pocket something a few moments later. A thief, perhaps???

“Hey,” Haven whispered, quickly glancing at Peter again. She made a motion in the girl's direction with her head. “Keep an eye on her. It looks like she stole something from that guy.”

If only there was a police officer around when they needed one.

Peter snorted at Haven’s response, but made no further comment. “Geniuses, sure, but just as snobby, usually,” he said with a shrug. “It’s not bad, though. I hate the uniform, but as long as the teacher lets us take off our jackets in the classroom, it’s fine. The science classes are great, but would you believe me if I said I wished there was more physical education courses? They’ve got pretty small sports teams. I have no idea why anyone would think to watch their baseball team for recruiting, but somehow Chris got noticed,” he explained, in a pretty good mood. This was probably the longest time in which Haven hadn’t insulted him in one way or another.

Or maybe it was just a clear sign that he was actually growing up a little, if small things like that didn’t bother him.

“Huh? Did she really?” he practically sputtered and turned to openly stare at the woman in question, but it didn’t look as though she was going to turn their way. “Did you actually see her take something? Should I call the police? They could probably meet us at the next station. We could always try to detain her if she really is a pickpocket,” he said with a frown, his eyes narrowing in preparation for the woman to make eye contact with him so he could let her know they were on to her. If she was super sketchy about it, then they’d know for sure.

But luckily for her, he also caught sight of someone he did know. “Hey, is that Chailee? From the dance. Hey,” he called to get her attention, although it didn’t have to be too loud since she was just across the aisle from them. “You remember us, right? Peter and Haven,” he indicated to himself and then to Haven. He wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t recognize him with his almost shaggy hair gone and replaced with a much more modern undercut style.
