Some of the others had left Alistair and Lance's townhouse once Alistair had come home. Avacyn had not. Her old apartment wasn't safe, and she hadn't gotten a new one, and she didn't want to go home to her mother and sister and put them in danger too. So she stayed, and haunted the house like a ghost, because she was drained and sad and everything was terrible.
She had settled on the couch with a cup of hot tea and Lady curled at her feet, wondering if it would be acceptable to use their Netflix to watch some Dr. Who and try to feel better. But, well, this wasn't her house - maybe in the room she had temporarily claimed, she might, but not now.

He'd noticed her shift behavior. Of course he suspected the cause. He knew the cause of Ava's mood. But still, he let her do as she please, opting t take care of Alistair during the few hours when he was awake. The blonde mostly left her alone, checking on her occasionally, or interacting whenever she sought out company. He figured that it was better to wait. If she needed to talk, she'd talk. When she was ready of course.
Or at least, that had been the plan anyway.
After everything that had happened in the court, it was easy for him to over worry. Most of the court was like family to him. So of course he would begin to get antsy. To wonder if there was something more to what he'd originally been told. Or if there was something he hadn't been told.
So when Lance found her sitting in the living room, staring off into nothing, Lance figured he might as well take a shot at it and talk to her. Maybe he could help? Maybe he'd just make things worse by asking... but there had to be something he could do right???
"Ava??" He called gently. "Do uh... do you wanna talk?"

Ava looked up, a little surprised to see Lance. He had mostly been taking care of Alistair, helping him recover from whatever horrible things he had been through while he was missing. She was mostly just a quiet houseguest. And she had been hoping to keep it that way.
"I, um." She swallowed, and took a sip of her tea, as if to calm her nerves. "Yeah, that would be nice." She set the mug on the end table and fidgeted slightly, looking nervous. "I mean, I'm sure Ali needs you but...yes, I'd like to talk to you."
Even if she ended up babbling like an idiot, because that was definitely a possibility, because she was an idiot. A giant one.

"Alistair is upstairs asleep again. He'll be out for a couple of hours... So for now it's just the two of us and Lady." He said as he took a seat besides his friend. Lady shifted slightly, picking her head up to stare at the pair before settling back down. "So... I could probably guess at the uh... subject but uh... Why don't you just.. start somewhere and we'll go from there? Is that alright? Or uh... I could just... Say stuff?" This wasn't awkward at all. Nope.

Ava nodded, wringing her hands a little. "I, um." She swallowed.
"I tried to purify." It came out in a rush, and it was the first time she had told anyone close to her besides Leto - and she hoped that the Princess hadn't told others, because she wasn't sure she could bear the shame of the whole Court knowing what she had done. "I just...I wanted to be with Chari again, so badly, and I found a Princess and she tried to purify me but it failed." And then she buried her head in her hands and started sobbing.

Okay, that. He hadn't been expecting that. His head snapped to the side, probably a little faster then he meant to, and he stared at her with wide eyes. "Ava..." Ooooh boy... Maybe he didn't know what was going on.
"Ava... Purification is still new to us... I don't think we've fully figured out how it happens." Chari had... but he wasn't sure if anyone was going to go rushing off to her to find out. Lance wrapped an arm around Avacyn, giving her a small squeeze. "It's okay though. No one's going to be mad at you for something like that. At least, I'm not." It probably would have been the same situation if it was he and Alistair.
"Are... are you sure, and uh, please don't take this the wrong way-" God he was never good at these things. "But, uh... are you sure that's such a good idea? I mean, if that's what you want then go for it. I am not going to stop you... I just want what's best for you."Noir Songbird DONT MIND ME I CHANGED SOMETHING

Ava nodded, a little. He was right, it was new and no one really knew how it worked. As far as she knew, it was just Chari who had done it. Maybe there were others, but...she didn't know them, and didn't know how they'd done it.
She turned and buried her head in Lance's shoulder to cry, instead of her hands, because he was warm and solid and comforting, and for a moment she remembered that she would have lost this if Polaris had succeeded, and that just made her cry harder.
"I don't know, Lance," she said, and then she let out a tiny whine. "I want to be with her, but what if she doesn't want to be with me? What if that's why she left?"

"I don't think that's the case Ava... I'm sure she wants to be with you still." Then why did she purify, and just leave Ava here on her own... Surely would have gone together wouldn't they?
"I'm not going to begin to understand why she's done this Ava, nor will I try to understand what's going through your mind right now, and what you may feel like. I just want you to make sure you really think about this. Just please don't go rushing into anything alright? I don't want you to decide on something and then come to regret it."
Lady had stretched, her small tail wagging back and forth as fast as she could possibly shake it. "There's not a whole lot I can say, as I don't... quite know how to handle this sort of thing. Both times when Cass crossed sides, I wasn't involved until afterwards. Even with those memories... after a while, I just tried to stay away from people." Ava knew how he'd felt about the children in those dreams. "I could say weight out your options.. But honestly, you need to ultimately do what's best for you, regardless of such things. Just know Ali and I are here for you okay? So are Quinn and Cass."

Ava sniffled, and held tighter to Lance, because his reassurances really were exactly what she needed. She was all too happy to accept his pretty words, even if they were lies. Even if no one could know what Chariklo really wanted. Even if they probably wouldn't be there for her anymore if she purified, and left them all behind.
And then she wailed out of sheer guilt, because how could she even think of it, how could she consider leaving this wonderful family that had opened their arms to her?
"I want to stay, but I want to be with her..." She sobbed, and then she just clung to him, desperately. "What would you do if it was Alistair?" Leaving aside that Alistair leaving was near impossible.

Lance just hugged Avacyn all the more tighter, whispering soft things to try and calm her down, though none of it seemed to work. "It's okay Ava. We'll figure this out.. You'll figure it out." He said quietly.
"I'd go to him. Eventually." Lance replied. "But I would be one of the last people to leave the Court. And he knows that. Even if things turned out like those memories, and Alistair purified early on instead of staying with the Court... He knows I would stick with them till the very end, even though we love each other." Alistair respected that choice. They both knew that wouldn't necessarily try and stop the brunette from trying to bring him over if the occasion arose. But deep down, they both knew Damocles would be one of the last to fall.
"I made that decision a long time ago Ava. And after what the Court has been through... What we've seen in dreams... I want to change it for the better. I don't want it to fall like it did. So how would I do that, if I was with the Order?"

Ava nodded faintly. Of course Lance would stay- he was so brave and solid and...well, devoted to his Court. Even if the person who was everything to him chose to leave...
"You're so sure of yourself, Lance," she said, faintly. "It's...I mean...I want that."
She swallowed. "Can I keep staying here?" She asked. "I don't want to go back to the place I had with Arilee, and..." She sniffed. "I don't want to go home."

"I mean, what can I say... I'm a little devoted to the cause..." Lance threw her a cheesy grin. Make a pun about his sphere? You bet your a** he would do make one. "You'll find what you need. What works for you."
He blinked when she asked if she could stay. "...Did you think I was going to eventually kick you out? Of course you can stay... Why do you think I wasn't pushing anything? I knew this was probably bugging you... If you want, I can go with you and help you pick up a few things from your place??" The blonde hugged her tight. "Ava, just remember.. That even though you two may be apart now, Arilee... Chariklo will always mean something to you. No one can take that away from you. That goes the same for her. Even if you two aren't together after this. You'll mean something to her. Nothing can change that.

Ava giggled a little, even though she was definitely still crying. God, she adored her friends so much. How could she even have thought of giving this up?
Well, because Chariklo was also still dear to her. And because she needed them to be together, and because part of her feared Chaos. But Chaos was her Court and her friends...and did she really have anything to fear from them?
"Yeah, I'd like to go pick up some of my things," she said, and then she sniffled, carefully slipping out of his arms. "Just...I'm gonna take a little to um, colelct myself, and then we can go." Even though it wasn't always the best for her to be alone, she wanted to be for just a little, to figure things out.
"And, um, thanks," she sad, as she scooped up her tea mug and went up to the guest room. Lance was right. Arilee would always be important to her - but she had to decide what she wanted more. Her lover, or herself.
