Bright rays of sunlight casted through partially open blinds, warming the girl who was currently lying comfortably her in bed. Her hand was tucked underneath the cool underside of her pillow and she opened her eyes slightly to look at the time on her digital clock, reading 9:17AM. She promised her best friend that she would be at his place by ten. After a few minutes, Dakota finally mustered up the will to drag herself from the tangled bedsheets and tousled a hand through her untamed brunette hair as she disappeared into the bathroom. After taking a quick shower and brushing her teeth, Dakota got dressed into a cami and a pair of dark jean shorts and tied her hair up into a messy bun, grabbing her small brown knapsack as she started out of the small bedroom towards the front door. She slung one strap over her shoulder. "Emma! I'm out!" she hollered. No response. Figuring she was probably passed out from a nights worth of bar hopping, Dakota decided to head into the kitchen and bend over a small table, hastily scrawling a note on a piece of paper she found so that her roommate would know that she left. She then grabbed her luggage bag and headed out the door.
Today was the day that Dakota and her best friend would begin their cross country road trip. They had been planning this for moths and needless to say she was ecstatic and couldn't wait to hit the road. Dakota took a cab over to her friends and once she reached the door, fished out her keys from her knapsack and let herself in as always. "I hope you're awake!" she shouted as she opened the door, her English accent making itself profound immediately. She slipped off her baby blue keds and left her luggage by the door and headed into the kitchen, opening the refrigerator door for a bottle of water. "I woke up much too early for my liking for you to be lazing around in bed still," she mumbled softly, twisting off the plastic cap and taking a sip.

As always, the night before he is leaving to some place, any place, Riley is incapable to sleep. He tried everything, from watching movies to playing games really close to the TV, anything that could make his eyes tired and make him fall asleep but it really was impossible for him. He started to text Dakota I CAN'T SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP Dakota please be awake PLEASE of course you're not awake okay. SLEEP ;-; But of course, Dakota was sleeping, she didn't have his sleeping issues. So, he accepted the situation and started to count the hours till they were going to leave for their cross country road trip.
Riley finally fell asleep at 8:30 AM but it wasn't long before he heard Dakota's voice downstairs. He stood up completely confused, trying to reach for his door. Yeah, I'm up he shouted from upstairs, going in the kitchen where she was drinking a bottle of water from his refrigerator - as if she was home, well, they've been best friends for a really long time so these things were normal. His luggage was ready because he had the entire night to do it, he took a shower before he fell asleep at 8:30 AM so, practically he was almost ready. He only had to get dressed and eat something quickly. Did you check your phone ? I didn't sleep at all ! Where were you when I needed you ? he pouted and took a shirt from the clean laundry, heading then to the fridge and taking from there some snacks I guess we're ready he smiled and took his backpack - it didn't even look like he didn't sleep the entire night, he was really excited for his trip they planned for so long.
Dakota's eyebrows furrowed slightly at his statement and she fished her touchscreen phone out from her back pocket. She hadn't bothered to turn on her phone, merely unplugged it and the charger from the wall and packed the charger into her bag. "My phone was off all night! I'm sorry Riley," she laughed softly and opened his messages to read them over. He was too adorable. Dakota lifted her head to look at him and she smiled in amusement. His russet brown hair was a total mess and yet despite his sleepless night, he still managed to look so excited. "I'll drive." With a smile she slung the strap of her knapsack over her shoulder and grabbed her water bottle, making her way towards the door with Riley. She slipped on her keds one foot after the other, speaking as she went. "Alright so I got about four hundred dollars worth of cash. We'll hit the gas station first and fill up the tank... you got the snacks.." She was running over a mental list of to-do's in her head. "Neither of us have eaten breakfast yet so, Starbucks?" she questioned, looking over her shoulder at her friend as she walked through the door.
Riley looked at her with a blank expression when she took out her phone from her back pocket. Seriously ? he replied and shook his head, sighing deeply So I was in deep pain, in a big need of help and you don't even have the interest to look if you're best friend, you're soul mate he made a pause and tried to give her a look to tease her and try to make her feel a bit bad - he was joking though - needs you or maybe just wants to tell you ' Good night, can't wait for tomorrow ' ? He kept his eyes locked on hers for a few more seconds then he laughed and walked towards her to hug her. He took his back pack, his luggage, a big water bottle for both of them and then walked towards the door. Four hundred, gas station, snacks.. Riley was repeating after Dakota, also making up a list in his head. Of course I get the snacks, I'm the only one eating he winked and opened her car's door, seating next to the driver's seat Yeah, Starbucks sounds good. I really need another coffee.
