Life Hunter
BATTLE ARENA

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

General Information
The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.

Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.

If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...

If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.

Group Play
Playing in a group on any course means certain things can be shifted to make it a better experience for multiple people without holding anyone back.
An approved group play alteration for the life arena goes as follows:
When someone knocks the tower down, they are shot with a weaker dart. They will wake up 5 minutes later, the game can be reset back to the point before it fell by placing their hands on the table and saying the word, constructum. This allows them to start again where they left off instead of the beginning. They can take up to three of these darts before passing out for an hour, the game will not reset for them and they will need to try again from the beginning.

    Mechanics
    - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.

    - you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)

  • Round 1

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 1
    Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d12
    Hunter Roll: 1d12
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d20

  • Round 2

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 3
    Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Hunter Roll: 1d10
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d12

  • Round 3

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 4
    Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Hunter Roll: 1d8
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d10

  • Round 4

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 10
    Trainee Roll: 1d4
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Hunter Roll: 1d6
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d8

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

It made sense that completing the Life training course would earn Nellie access to runic bandages. Something that the Mist found herself wishing she had with her whenever she or the people around her needed a quick fix during the missions they went on.

Making her way down the stairs, the raven haired trainee took in the setup of the room as she crossed over to take a seat at the table, ambers glancing up at the ceiling each time the chamber rumbled from the occasional explosions that originated from the testing areas that were located above. The room should hold. Countless hunters had sat here at this very same table to attempt the wooden block puzzle before her. She reminded herself over and over, forcing her gaze back to the innocuous looking wooden tower that was before her. 50 points. That was all that she needed and then she would be out of here.

It was high time the life trainee actually did something worth while as opposed to the repetitive chores of the infirmary. Or the bland, yet oddly satisfying task, of arranging files with material for the missions. Hands shoved into pockets as the raven haired lifer entered the room. The sounds above that seemed to shake the room not even gaining a blink of eye, signalling that Cain was obviously use to noises by now.

The thing in the room that actually brought a startle to the young man was actually another hunter. A slow blink and footsteps paused to leave him staring towards Nellie and from there the bluntly asked question was delivered, "what are you doing here?" She was a mist hunter correct? Not that he didn't realize other hunters took nonspecific courses but still.

Nellie was so focused entirely on the wooden tower before her that she didn't even realise that Cain was there until the Life trainee bluntly asked what she was doing there. Looking up at him, she blinked a few times, giving him a look akin to a deer that was suddenly caught in the headlights. "Nellie was told that Nellie has to complete this in order to gain access to runic bandages."

The answer was quickly blurted out. The Mist beginning to look flustered as she quickly got up and took a step back from the seat. "D-Does Cain want to go first? Nellie c-can come again later..."

Well she was right. A little sheepishly the lifer scratched his cheek and nodded, "yeah.." Moving closer towards the girl the look she gave him was took into question with a raise of brow. Why did she seem so nervous? He was pretty sure they had ended on good terms the last meeting? Right? Probably, though Cain wasn't the best at social judgement so maybe they hadn't. The mostly fully blonde man paused in step only realizing then how questioning of himself he was being, and on a weirdos behalf.

Why?

"Huh? That's stupid." Cain caught up to the present conversation and snorted, "why bother doing that, we can just do it together that makes more sense." They could have a competition and then Cain could forget all this nonsense swirling around in his head.

Nellie wasn't really sure herself either just what exactly was making her feel so nervous around Cain. Perhaps it was the fact that he disapproved of what she did or the way with which she rationalised things during their initial encounter. The Mist looked down, twiddling her fingers as she tried to quell the innate urge to turn and run when the Life told her that her initial proposal to let him go first while she returned later was stupid when the both of them could always complete the training course together.

Was what she suggested really so bad?

She looked up at him but found herself having to quickly avert her gaze again when even looking at him sent a shiver down her spine and made her quiver with fear that he was going to reproach her whenever she did something wrong again. "O-Okie. C-Cain and N-Nellie can do it together then..." She finally managed with a forced smile though it was only after taking a moment to rub at her eyes and force back the tears that were threatening to form and fall any moment now through sheer will power alone.

A lift of brow at Nellie for how she was behaving and he man sit at the table. The wooden block puzzle was looked over before his hand moved, "sit then...lets get this moving." He didn't have time to wait around all day, though he softened when he noticed the rub at eyes. "Please come on ok?" Cain didn't really understand why he wanted to reassure the girl so much but he didn't like seeing her look fit to cry.

A sigh and he took his turn, assuming they were still doing this together.

"Ok..."

The softening of Cain's tone of voice, though slight, was unmistakable to Nellie and it helped to reaffirm her conviction to stay with the Life trainee and see this training course to the very end. When it was her turn to pick a piece from the puzzle, she very carefully poked at one of the wooden blocks and then slid it out from the other end with a small triumphant smile.

After a good moment, another turn, and a long sigh he spoke again. "Sorry." He said softly, turning a faint pink as he apologized. It was rare and wouldn't happen again, at least not like this.

When he took another piece a small grin of success scrawled across face.

"It's ok."

She accepted the apology without any hesitation or hard feelings, a small pleasant smile on her face as she grabbed another wooden piece before offering tentatively. "Nellie didn't mean to get on Cain's nerves like that."

"Everyone gets on my nerves, its not like you are special." The man snorted without even thinking, hands moving to take a block as soon as it was his turn. This game was fun, he like jenga. Cain looked briefly up to Nellie and waited it was her turn now, "not like it matters anyways..I've told you before you have to stop giving two shits about how people think of you. That includes me." Cain didn't care about other people and he was just fine after all.

"Why?" Nellie looked up at Cain's words, a small frown on her face as she sought an explanation for something that she did not quite understand about the other trainee who sat across the table from her. "Isn't it tiring to be mad at the whole world all the time?" There had to be a reason for this. She wasn't going to sit on her high chair and think that Cain was silly or unreasonable to feel that way about the people around him. Not until she knew Cain better.

Seeing that it was her turn now, Nellie gently tapped a piece free before retrieving it to add to her little pile. "Nellie... will try. Nellie wants to have friends too. People are only friends with those they like, isn't it?"
