The place was sweet with the smell of fresh flowers, overturned dirt, and the warm humidity of the island. The place had been scrubbed as best as a greenhouse could ever possibly get, and plans were made. Blankets and pillows gathered, they laid on the ground (after his own inspection to allow it), and ate a private meal.
Then, when the basket was set away, they laid together. Idly, he played wtih Rin's hair as she rested on him, looking up through the glass to the sky. It made him think of the days he used to camp out as a kid. "I miss staying out at night."

"Where I grew up I didn't really get to see the stars." The scent of night-blooming jasmine was especially strong this night and put the roses to shame. "Even the moon seems bigger and brighter now than I ever remembered as a kid." She turned her head to glance sideways at Melvin. "It's funny how different things look from a slightly different perspective." A smirk curled across her bright red lips, "Like if we ever told civilians even part of the s**t we did for them I'm sure they'd lock us up for being ab-so-lutely bat s**t crazy."

He smiled, continuing to play with her hair as he looked down at her. "I don't mind that actually. Being crazy with you. At least it would be comfier and safer there than here. No one would bother us or wake us up with some mission to the bottom of the ocean or to anywhere with alternate realities."
He brushed some hair from her brow. "What alternate reality would you most want?"

"I would like a reality that was actually real, I guess." She shook her head, not really sure what she was trying to say with that. Maybe that she did crave a bit of normalcy. "Do you ever miss just being a normal human like the rest of 'um?" Her smile shrank to something more soft, more real. "Pretty much that reality."

He smiled. "If I wasn't haunted by shadows, then yeah. The only reason I came here was to get answers to what bugged me all my life. If I didn't see them, I wouldn't be here. We wouldn't be here." He continued to play with her hair, but started to move his fingers down her cheek.
"But then I'd want a reality where we'd meet as normal people and see how we made it work. How we would meet. How we would grow." And if Rin would actually still want him if all the world was open to her. "I think I'd have more competition with everyone around you."

Rin's smile twisted up again with a flash of tooth, "I get it, bugged you." She was never very good at being serious all of the time. She pressed her cheeks flat so she'd stop grinning goofily at him and instead looked back up at he stars. "A lot would be different, that's true. I would have been 'normal'. A perfectly average human. Maybe I would have gotten into college even... maybe got work in the medical field.... I'm kind of already doing that now though."
She shifted to sit up partially and give Melvin a deadpan squint, "Still no kids."

He grinned back and cupped her chin. "Really? You would be an excellent mom. You take care of a big baby like me enough."

Rin threw her head back in raucous laughter before slowly smooshing her hand into his face. "Down boy," her amused smile could be heard in her voice. She turned her hand side to side to really scrunch up his face. "Ain't nobody messing my body up but me." Then leaned in close to his ear, "got it?"

Face smushed, he tried to speak through puckered, fishy lips. "Not even me?" He reached up to slide his hands down her back, reaching for her jeans and squeezing.

Rin looked as though she was considering it before rolling her eyes and finally pushing his face back with her hand and letting it go. "If you call that messing my body up, then I'll have to say you are wayyy over estimating your skills. Just a bit."

He threw his head back, away from her to lean back. "Ouch. I'm wounded." He closed his eyes, turning to one side.
Reaching back, he set a hand on his brow to look at her. "We'd still be happy though. I don't think I'd see you as often. Not a lot of normal people getting hurt. Couldn't spend all my time in the Infirmary with you......then again, maybe we could work together."

Rin seized Melvin by the bottom jaw and turned his head back to her for close inspection. She squinted realllly hard. Didn't see it. "You're fine you big baby," she scolded before planting a kiss to his forehead and releasing his head again.
"I don't think there'd be an infirmary in such a world. I think I'd work in a lab, making or testing medications, perhaps? Find ways to treat diseases." She smiled at him again, a lot more relaxed. "I like this life too though. Less boring."

"Alright. No kids. What kind of pets? What are their names? How would you like our bedroom and living room and kitchen?" He asked, pulling her up closer.

Rin sighed exaggeratedly at him before taking pause. She suddenly looked very thoughtful and then glanced back at the sky. She shrugged a shoulder before settling back in to get comfortable alongside him. "Well honestly. Who knows. What if one day hunters can leave? Maybe I'll get a parrot. I'd like a nice small place though. Easier to find things."

He looked up at the sky with her, moving his hand to gently rub alongside her hip and side. "What about here? I mean, we can still get the bigger upper floor room together...but maybe expanding the greenhouse. A little room added just for you. I'm sure a minipet tank would be easy to get." It wouldn't be the same, but it would be close to the picture of normalcy.
