Name: Flydra Dromen
flydra - taken from dragonfly
dromen - Dutch word for dream

Blood colour: #2bbdbd █████, tealblood

Gender: female

Symbol: stylized dragonfly, see pic above (it's on her dress)

Profile: Flydra is a dreamy troll with a great love for science, specifically drugs. Learning how things work the way they do in order to break through current limitations is her passion. Her greatest joys come from researching the troll bodies and the various upgrades that can be done to it. Because of this obsession, she has become desensitized to blood and gore and views such things with scientific fascination. This is not to say she does not value life, after all dead trolls are not nearly as fun to test on, but she wouldn't hesitate to harm another person for the sake of her ambitions. Though in such a situation, she would rather step back and record data from a fight rather than participate in one should the choice be available.

Her manner is very mellow and quiet as she is more of an observer than an entertainer. When she does talk, her voice is somewhat melodic but also kind of haunting because it tends to fade in and out in volume (sometimes she also sounds just plain stoned from testing things on herself). She enjoys socializing with others but prefers to follow instead of leading the pack. Her focus is more on the details rather than the big picture of things which is why she lets others give orders; Flydra will handle executing them perfectly. Though she might get a little sidetracked should something interesting happen by that could be studied.

She actively seeks out other trolls willing to take part in her testing and tries to reward them with free medical assistance when she can get her hands on supplies. She figures lowbloods with limited access to medical help will take her up on her deal but she hasn't figured out a way to attract highblood clientele yet. Currently she is trying to mix together a balm to protect the skin from sunlight but all attempts thus far have ended disastrously.

The hemospectrum is intriguing to Flydra as it is a method to organize and categorize trolls which is useful culturally and medically. The perks given to highbloods do not bother her as she figured out quick that life is less about a troll as an individual and more about who you know. She believes regardless of the 'every troll for herself' nature of trolls, most trolls love to have a posse or army to do their bidding and she'd be more than happy to belong to a highblood as a pet if it meant more resources. Pride is not really important to her. Thankfully the hemospectrum has made it easy to look for those with money and access, what a convenient tool! Flydra attends as many social events as she can with the hopes of sucking up to highbloods and finding herself a sponsor.

Flydra cares about blood hues because she wants to study the hemospectrum rather than because she cares about her own rank. She wants to understand the biological differences between highbloods and lowbloods and if there are differences within in a caste as well (the lower end of teal versus the higher end). She hasn't gotten very far in this research yet as she's just a kid but it's what she's interested in since the hemospectrum is a big part of Alternia culture so she wants to thoroughly understand it. She gets how it works culturally and adapted to it very quickly but due to a great interest in science, slowly decided to investigate it factually. Flydra hopes to find clear definite differences in order to help aid the government in justifying the caste system to squash these weird small rebellions once and for all. She heard a rumor about their existence but doesn't know if it's true. She is interested in this topic regardless.

One of her earliest memories was a conversation with a fellow tealblood over who's blood color was technically higher. They were both close in color but it was difficult to tell the difference with just the small symbols on their shirts. Flydra decided they needed a bigger sample of the colors and scratched open the other troll's arm to get a better look of their color. The other troll promptly smashed her head into the ground as retaliation leaving her unconscious. She managed to note that her own blood was bluer than her companion's before passing out and found the experiment to be a success despite the splitting headache the next night. She hopes to collect a blood sample of every troll on Alternia to organize a master list of the castes. Her reason for doing this is to understand what makes each caste unique as well as to hopefully understand why lowbloods mutate differently than highbloods and so on. So far progress has been difficult as not many are eager to volunteer and she has been threatened with violence for her aggressive efforts. Hydrady has cracked down on stopping her efforts to protect her from physical harm but she still attempts to pursue it behind his back when she can get away with it.

It comes as no surprise that Flydra's hobbies include both journaling and reading. Recording the world around her is useful but she also enjoys keeping a private journal detailing specifically her own thoughts and feelings. This is one of the few outlets for her emotions that she allows herself because no one will ever read it (hopefully). She will occasionally write letters to other trolls in there as well expressing things she doesn't feel comfortable really sending but maybe someday she will actually give them to their recipients.

Reading-wise she loves non-fiction best of course and devours medical books as well as history. Otherwise, she enjoys suspense and mystery stories the most. Flydra travels around Alternia a lot in order to meet with friends or do work out in the field and found reading to be an excellent hobby to bring onto the train with her.

One of her more bizarre hobbies is stalking trolls (or beasts). It is partially a game to her and partially a serious experiment. If she can successfully keep her presence hidden from her target, she hopes to witness their more vulnerable and unguarded states to record useful data. What better way to find a weakness than to watch someone who thinks they are completely alone? Plus it is great practice for one day growing big enough to partake in hunting games! Flydra knows she is too small and weak to participate now but hopes to hone her skills to be able to efficiently track trolls and beasts alike. She figures it is a useful skill that highblood patrons might enjoy having at their command.

Strengths:
calm - Those dirty jobs or unpleasant errands are right up this girl's alley. She does not flinch or falter when situations turn unpleasant or scary. Flydra is not exactly bold or brave; her patient and unflappable nature stems from viewing the world through a logical lens rather than an emotional one. Problems are a challenge to be analyzed and solved. Pain sucks but is not always a horrifying thing nor an emergency. Everything has a solution and she will work her way to it slowly but surely no matter how long it takes. Keeping her cool allows her to thrive under pressure and take advantage of every opportunity without panic clouding her judgement.
observant - She is a quiet personality that likes to watch the world around her. This puts her in a great place to collect information as well as analyze it. While her strengths are more in the scientific field, this trait has come in handy for escaping sketchy situations or figuring out how to win someone's favor.
generous - This is not a troll with lots of beetles to throw around but she is very giving in other ways. She will happily give her time and resources out to others that want or need them. Flydra is also willing to heap attention on other trolls to build up their egos (and also get them vulnerable if it can benefit her). She finds that it pays to give because you can get a hell of a lot of stuff back in return.

Flaws:
pushy - This isn't the kind of troll that will order you around like a boss, she's too much of a follower for that. However, she is the type to do whatever she wants without regard to the wishes of others and will blatantly ignore their protests if they are a lower caste than herself. This disrespect has cost her a few friendships and gotten her attacked before (out of retaliation) but for some reason she still hasn't wised up about the problem.
distracted - Flydra is easily distracted by the details in the world around her. Whether this is because of a potential improvement, an unnatural oddity worth noting or a deviation from something expected, it all throws her off her game and causes her to change her focus. She is not good at letting go of something if she does not understand it and commonly needs assistance getting back on track with her plans.
risky - Her method of trial and error research have clashed with safety common sense and created some survival priority problems in her life. While Flydra is very intelligent, she is also very stupid when it comes to her own well being because she is willing to brave any danger to get what she wants. Sometimes this can pay off but more often than not, she doesn't listen to her own body's warning signs or follow social cues to GO AWAY NOW.

Weapon: syringe darts loaded with a variety of poisons and 'enhancements'

Appearance: She wears a ruffled labcoat over a poofy cupcake dress to give her style a little girlishness and always has disposable gloves on hand in order to get to work. Her eyes are almost always half-lidded and droopy as if she's on something. Naturally her hair is actually straight and she takes time to add some curl and wave to it every day.

Home: Her hive is located in Civisect City near the beach because she likes the view of the sunset over the water, it is the perfect way to start her night (even if a little uncomfortably bright). Her hive is a humble two story building with a basement. Her recuperacoon is in the basement along with other storage as she doesn't spend a lot of time sleeping. The first floor is her laboratory with guests being entertained on the upper level. The place is meticulously clean and smells faintly of disinfectant all the time. There are several locked closets that are off limits for visitors to poke through.

There are a few strange items (like a pair of socks, jar of seashells, painting of a scarecrow) scattered around the place as if she attempted to make it look more 'lived in' but it just kind of looks weird.

Lusus: Flydra has become who she is tonight due to the overwhelmingly confusing lusus Hydrady. Hydrady is a reptilian beast that walks on all fours with three necks and a crocodile head on the end of each one. Very heavy with lots of teeth, her lusus is very capable of defending her in battle and is slightly taller than the average troll. Two of the heads are male while one is female but she refers to him with male pronouns just to make it simpler and easier. The three of them tend to disagree on how to raise Flydra but all care deeply about her and will give lots of conflicting advice.

Hydrady is not fond of her desire to go out and stab other trolls with needles because attracts a lot of violence towards Flydra. For now, Hydrady has been able to protect her and sometimes interfere with her experiments (halting some of them before they get out of hand) but the worry that she will become more rebellious as she grows bigger is a concern for the future. The current plan is to get her some friends to influence her to take an interest in other hobbies but so far this has been unsuccessful.

She loves her drady very much and has tried to live a life combining everything she's been told which has backfired on her a lot because not everything works together. As she begins to grow older, she is starting to think more for herself while using her lusus as a sounding board for ideas because the three work well as a council to consult rather than a traditional parent.

Hey Yama! Flydra is looking good so far, I just have a few overarching concerns and general knowledge to lay on you.

To start, the little "other" section you have down at the bottom seems like something that could be easily added to the profile instead, so please go ahead and do that.

This is a general note, but there are places here and there were she reads just a bit more like a teenager than a child. For example, scuffles are fine for kids, but remember not to let fights get too out of hand. Also consider limitations as far as her knowledge about the troll body/enhancements, ability to acquire equipment, and how big the bounds in her research should be. Build her into her knowledge and connections through rp while keeping in mind her status as a child.

I'm on the fence about the unafraid strength. While I do think having resistance to pain or fear is a good thing in their society, the word "unafraid" is a weird midpoint for me that could almost be read as a flaw, like she might blindly walk into danger without worrying about the consequences. You've already got that covered in her flaws, so maybe consider a strength like "ambitious" and expand on it a little more along with what you have? As I said, I'm kinda wavering on this, so if you think it works as-is feel free to let me know why.

As a note about how trolls generally view others of the same blood color, a majority would likely look at another tealblood and consider them on equal social standing. There are exceptions: trolls who care a lot about status and those who tend to enjoy bullying the lower castes might be more finicky about exact hues. All in all, though, it's unusual.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with making Flydra the type who cares that much about the nuances of troll blood color rankings, but I'd like to see more justification for it. With what's been presented about her personality—she's mellow, a follower, not overly prideful, and more likely to avoid a fight (though avoiding a fight reads more as physical right now, mellow still makes me believe this is applicable to verbal fights, too)—it honestly strikes me as out of place that she'd get worked up to the point of arguing about whose teal is slightly bluer.

Also, please be aware that attacking another troll, whether lower or higher in blood, is pretty heavy grounds for being attacked right back in self-defense. Based on Flydra's pushy flaw, I know you get this, but I bring it up only because the argument with the npc makes it sound like the other tealblood took the time to mull over blood colors with her after she clawed their arm open before decking her. That probably wouldn't happen, she'd probably be attacked immediately if the other troll were prone to defending themselves (as this npc seems to be).

One final note about this, please be aware of our npc guidelines. Your use of an npc here isn't over the top, but as I mentioned earlier, I'd love to see more justification for Flydra's thoughts and actions above and beyond one interaction with an npc.

Finally, I'd love to see more information about her hobbies and how they relate to her character. It doesn't have to be a lot, just enough to give me a better window into her world.

Thanks for the help with the crit and answering my questions earlier! I have reorganized and rewritten parts of the app. These areas are marked in the teal color!

I have changed the unafraid strength to calm as this is more of what I was trying to explain. Ambitious is a good recommendation but her ability to stay calm and focused through a roadblock is a trait I wanted to highlight. I hope it makes more sense now that I've rewritten it!

We talked about her intense interest in the hemospectrum and blood hues earlier so I added some justification that she finds the system useful and wants to essentially 'prove' that it's legit to shut up any naysayers. I hope this explains her thought process better. The encounter with the NPC was supposed to be more of an example of her beginning to collect blood/start doing something to research rather than a pivotal moment sparking her interest in the hemospectrum. I don't intend for her to meet the NPC again or for them to play a huge role in her life. I just wanted to include the short anecdote to show she's begun to do this and that I as an RPer am aware that she would encounter pushback and negative reactions in response to it.

Her hobbies have been expanded on at the bottom of the profile section as requested! She spends most of her time trying to work or suck up to highbloods but I figure these hobbies are things she does to pass the time when she can't do those other two things or in order to improve herself to attract a sponsor. Her journaling/letter writing hobby won't play a huge role now but when she grows into a teen she will likely start sending the letters anonymously. Just as a way to collect her thoughts and express them to trolls that she is close with or would like to grow close to.

Thanks again for all the help! I hope this edit clears stuff up. If not let me know!

I'm really excited to see how her hemospectrum studies play out!
