(Xilarn post 1)
"Akiyal," Xilarn scolded firmly, voice tight as he watched his young charge scamper after a Wind girl that may have been close in age to him. After a brief pause, Aki scrambled behind a merchant stall and out of sight, leaving Xil to glower at the last place he'd been standing and looking a fool while doing it.
The Oban groaned softly, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Adapting to Akiyal's blossoming personality was more of a strain than he'd originally expected. It was great of course, when he son started to curiously investigate other children in their play. Xilarn had been fairly concerned during the time when the lad hadn't seemed interested in joining them. He'd wondered if their was perhaps some social fear that kept his son excluded, or maybe a lingering worry that he'd lose someone he became too close to. So it was welcome to see him engage with others.
Xilarn would simply have preferred it in a little less public and rambunctious place. The market of Kesris was no place for a child to be scurrying unattended. That much, he was sure of. With a dissatisfied grunt, he stalked off in search of the boy.~~~ (Akiyal post 1)
Akiyal gave pause at the sound of his name shouted over the bustle of the market. He turned from his companion fleetingly, casting a glance back at Xilarn before deciding... He wasn't quite ready to return to him yet. Making that conscious decision to ignore him, Aki bustled after the girl that currently served as his playmate.
He didn't know much about her, save that he'd accidentally knocked shoulders with her while following Xilarn through the market. She was Wind, like him, perhaps a year or two older, not much. She certainly wasn't an adult yet. He expected she had some family someone close by, though to be honest, he wasn't entirely sure who or where. She was faster than him, as most children seemed to be; a very dismaying discovery. "Hey, wait," he called softly, voice hardly loud enough to sound over the other passerby. "You did never tell me yer name."

Amarone was quite happy to be back home and with her family. Her siblings had grown so much since she first began her journey, and she was almost ashamed to have missed so much. Chasing a dream was something she needed to do, but there were a lot of sacrifices she had to make.
When the fighting ended, she knew she was obligated to return home and make sure everyone was safe. The warning and the rush gave her no time to check with Syrah to ensure that the roles were working well, to see how Fe'Anno was doing in terms of his laziness, or to coddle Brachatta about how beautiful she had become.
Thankfully, now she had all the time to do just that. With her family working most of the day, she was able to persuade her parents to let her take Brachatta to the market, something her mother originally planned on doing. Now, she was looking at all of the wares, her satchel filled with the required purchases, while she let her sister have some fun.
She wasn't clueless enough to not notice how the young girl seemed to get along with an equally young boy, and as long as they stayed somewhat close, she would permit a little bit of an impromptu play date.
Brachatta's laughter was loud as she rushed away from the younger Windling. When he seemed to lag a bit behind, she spun on her toes and waited a moment to hear his question.
"I'm Brachatta!" She said with a giggle, rushing back to his side to continue their game once more, "What's yours?"

Elyessi I apologize for Aki's dialect. *headdesk* He's a dumb little bby. =w= (Xilarn post 2)
Surely parents didn't generally allow their children run about like this? When Xilarn thought back to a time when he'd been a young boy in a market, he could only conjure up memories of being scolded and forced to hold his big brother's hand if he tried to run off. Not that Xil had any desire to be the type of parent his own were. And,of course, Oba's markets were significantly larger. There were a great deal more people, and they all seemed... less inclined to forgive bustling children.
Here at least, so long as nothing was broken or ruined in play, the merchants and shoppers seemed willing to forgive, or maybe just ignore. When Akiyal knocked the corner of a stall in his chase with an alarmed yelp, a man standing by extended an arm to steady the youngster, but otherwise left him be. As Xilarn caught up to the children and moved by, he mumbled a quiet apology for the commotion.
"Akiyal," he hissed again warningly, tone low. "That's enough. Come here." He reached for the smaller boy, wrapped his arm around Aki's waist and scooped him up, dragging him off his feet and incapable of continuing.~~~ (Akiyal post 2)
Aki gasped softly as he was suddenly tugged up from the ground. He gave a light squirm and quickly whipped his head down toward Brachatta. Crystal eyes narrowed before turning back to the elder Oban. "Momma woulda let me play," he informed Xilarn tartly.
Xil's response was immediate tension, his arms tightening around Aki's smaller frame and brows knitting worriedly. "Is that so...?" He murmured.
Akiyal nodded vigorously, giving another squirm. "Yes. Wasn't doing nothing wrong. Lemme play with my friend. Lemme play with Burshatta."
Xilarn didn't release him, but he did stoop down toward the young blond female. "Is your mother around?" He questioned softly.

The young wind girl paused and spun around again, her eyes wide as she looked at her playmate being scooped up by a tall, dark skinned man. She knew he was someone who was hovering over Akiyal, but she didn't realize it was his father. The man looked so different from most who came to the sleepy settlement, that he caught her off guard and caused her to stare with a wide mouth.
"It's Brachatta!" she corrected automatically, pouting a moment before turning to the man and dropping her mouth wide again. That was Amarone's cue to swoop in.
"Sorry! She's my sister!" The teal-eyed girl said with a bright grin, saddling up next to the little girl and rubbing her hair with some affection, "She's keen to play with those who are her age, and most of the kids around here are either older or younger than she!"
Brachatta shoved Amarone's hands out of her hair with a huff, and began to correct her now messy pig-tails.
"Oh, but you aren't from around here...are you?" She said as an afterthought, her eyes narrowing as she looked thoughtfully at the oban before her.

(Xilarn post 3)
Despite his son's immediate and highly unnecessary efforts to be returned to the ground, by way of going completely limp in his arms, Xil hefted him up with a grunt, and Akiyal huffed in response. He tried not to be put off by the young girl's staring. Children were prone to such things after all. Really he should just be happy she was only staring. Xilarn fidgeted.
"It's nothing worth apologizing over," he assured mutedly, tugging his gaze up to meet the bright blue-green irises of a slightly older blond woman. She certainly seemed chipper. Hesitantly, Xilarn offered her a small return smile. It was gone much more quickly than it'd come, as the woman's eyes narrowed on him.
There was a brief flicker of thought as he wondered wheat she thought she'd do if he was up to something unscrupulous. But Xil brushed that away too.
"Well, no," he admitted with a roll of his shoulders. The motion earned a low, annoyed groan from his bundle. "Obviously I'm originally from farther south, but I do live here now, and have for several months. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you yet, though. My name is Xilarn, and you? Miss...?" He let the question hang between them.~~~ (Akiyal post 3)
Akiyal squirmed, shoving his fingers to Xilarn's chest, and when that didn't work, he aimed higher. A quick jab of the heel of his palm to his father's throat (unwittingly, of course), had Xil coughing and his grip slackening. Any lingering attempt at commentary was interrupted as the Oban's gaze dropped to the ground. Akiyal slid to the dirt and dusted his pants.
"Tha's what I said," he informed Brachatta, crossing his arms with a snort as he did. He tipped his head back up to shoot the taller female an inquisitive stare. "Y'know, I have'n' never seen you around afore, neither," Akiyal informed her briskly. "You live close? We could play som'more."
"Don't be rude," Xil grunted, giving a light tug to the back of Akiyal's hair.

When he admitted he was not from around the area, Amarone's brow actually furrowed and she seemed to pout. She was used to obans from her travels, but after meeting the inventor she begun to be suspicious of the war-minded people. It wasn't that she assumed anything, but her voice was more keen since she was in charge of the pig-tailed girl that was her sister.
But as he explained his reasoning, and as the little boy also seemed keen to express their logic, Amarone's face smoothed out once more and a bright smile crossed her cheeks.
"Well that explains that!" She even went as far as to wipe her hands to seal the thought away for good, "I've been traveling myself, and am only back to visit since I was in the area..."
Trailing off at the unspoken reason as to why she was in the area, she smiled to the kid.
"I'm Brachie's sister, and I'm traveling the world to become a great inventor!" As she said this, she ignored the eye roll from her sister, the younger girl quite used to Amarone's exuberant passion.

(Xilarn post 4)
'Miss Brachie's sister.'
Xilarn resisted the impulse to scrub a hand down his face, and in his attempts to further deter the knee-jerk reaction, instead folded his arms behind his back. Great, they'd cleared introductions up sort of, and yet he didn't feel too much more at peace.
She'd been suspicious. And while he shouldn't blame her or hold it against her (she was just being as protective of her little sister as he was being of his son), Xil was miffed nonetheless. He'd grown accustomed to the people of Kesris being suspicious. They had been when he'd first decided he was going to live here. But that was months past, and the brunt of it had long since blown over. As it turned out, 'accustomed to it' had a way of quickly devolving into 'tired of it.' Even though 'Brachie's sister' smiled, he found himself frowning.
If she was only 'visiting,' what right did she have to question him, anyway? He reached, curling his fingers lightly around the back of Akiyal's neck and giving a very gentle encouraging tug backwards.~~~ (Akiyal post 4)
Akiyal was less put off by the whole thing. Suspicious or not, she'd smiled, and that seemed more relevant at the moment. And Aki found it easy to respect a pretty, daring, traveling Wind woman. She couldn't be so different from his mother, if she sought adventure away from home.
But she made it sound like she was leaving her family. And this felt grossly unacceptable. He tilted his head, and blinked up at her through unwavering sky-toned orbs. "Visit?" Akiyal repeated. "You don't take your sister with you? You don't like her? Does she 'get in the way?' My daddy thinks I'd get in the way if I traveled with him."
Xilarn's gaze snapped down to him. "I have never said-"
"Why you gotta 'travel the world' to be a great inventor, anyway? Bet you could do that from home."

Amarone simply didn't notice the frustration of Xilarn, most likely because it was a behavior she had seen day in and day out, and simply didn't mind at all. Her entire village had felt the same frustration the man most likely felt at this point, the absolute frustration that such a seemingly absent girl was wasting their time. Instead, she focused on the children around her.
"Oh no, I don't think any of that little one!" She said with her bright smile once more, before fondly looking down at her relaxed sister. Brachatta was quite used to the flimsy ways of Amarone, and really didn't mind her sister decided to travel. Afterall, she could do the same once she was older.
"The world is big and full of wonder, and I need to see it all if I want to be the best of the best. But I made that decision after years of focus, of training and testing here at home. I needed to grow quite a bit before I was ready to take on the world on my own, just like you need to do the same. The best place to grow is where you can set roots...that's why Brachie here is staying. So she can learn and grow and work out what she wants to do too."
Nodding, she smiled to the man now, before looking back at the little boy, "I'm sure your daddy thinks that he wants you to be safe, and this place sure is safe."
Pausing, she looked around before frowning, "If a bit too quiet. I remember it being louder-"
"That's because you made all the noise, Amarone." Brachatta added in with an eye roll.

(Xilarn post 5)
A stronger surge of frustration came immediately, like a spark before a flame, and Xilarn's expression pinched, a darker frown edging up on his face. He didn't mind her telling his boy about 'laying roots' and 'growing' and 'working out' your place in life (not that he could say he'd done the same, and for the most part he seemed to be fine now), but that he only thought that he wanted his son to be safe?
She meant nothing by it. Xilarn knew the uncalled for irritation was irrational, but that didn't make it any less there.
He stood straighter, gripped at his boy a little tighter and notched Aki back closer to him. Xil levered a stiff stare on the Wind woman. "I do not just think I want Akiyal to be safe," he assured her. "I do want him to be safe, and I will keep him safe. If here is quiet and boring and safe, then all the better." There was still plenty to do around Kesris. Lakes for swimming, the beautiful sight of the mountains in the distance, children for him to entertain himself with. There was no reason Akiyal, or anyone else, could not be happy here.~~~ (Akiyal post 5)
Akiyal winced and twisted about in an attempt to shoot his father a decidedly displeased look. He did not want to be grabbed or tugged on when he wasn't even doing anything worth holding him back from. When his attempts to be free went ignored, he reached back, scrabbling at Xil's hand and letting out a quiet grunt. "Lemme go."
"Sorry," Xil muttered. His grip slackened, but didn't release.
Aki gave another fidget before looking back at the Wind woman."I don't wanna be 'on my own," he informed her in as clipped a tone as a young boy could. And he certainly did not want to spend 'years of focus' at home. Especially not all the way up until he was her age. She couldn't have been much younger than Father, and Aki wasn't interested in waiting around, doing nothing for that long.
"And I don't need to be safe!" This was said with a sharp whip of his arm backwards, knocking away Xilarn's fingers as he rounded on the older man. "I don't wanna be here! Is too quiet and too boring. You don't even wanna be here, you leave all the time! No one wants'ta be here!"
