The baking sun hung in the sky; it had been a typical summer’s day. The plains tickled the noses of all who were present in the plains with the scent of sun-scorched grass. Many soquili enjoyed the heat while others desperately sourced out any in any shade or pool of water they could find for relief. Generally the sudden rush of soquili near the banks of rivers or in the shallows of lakes usually was received well by the friendlier of the land soquili’s aquatic neighbours. In the summer the disgruntled and less social of aquatics would inhabit the deeper parts of the water, only going into the shallows to play tricks. Echo loved to watch the other soquili; however hung back. He longed to join in with the other soquili but was too shy to allow himself to partake in such activates outside the company and protection of his family. He always told himself in his head that one day he would take the plunge and make an effort to socialise with others outside of his family circle, but each day he found himself saying, tomorrow, next week, any other day than today.
His heavy helm pressed his mane flat against his neck, he always was prone to “helmet-hair” but his mother always said that he looked so handsome when his hair was allowed to be free. The helm meant he was given strange looks at times by passers by but it gave him more courage to go out and at the very least, people watch and dream of a better day. Without the helm other soquili would often call him young lady and ma’am, but with the helm he was usually addressed as sir or not at all. This in itself made him happy enough to wear it, although this day was starting to prove itself to be too hot to keep the helm on. As he lay in the shade he rested his chin on the cool grass and let the relief escape him in the form of a sigh. Perhaps it would soon be time for a lap of water for himself.

Yumitoko II Only three months late. . gah. Sorry for the delay! *eternally slow* I'm also sorry Lailah is horrible, omfg. . . xD She's such a flirt and . . . gah. It was hot, and the height of summer had overtaken the lands. Lailah, for one, loved it. The mare absolutely adored the long hours of daylight, even if it meant dealing with a sometimes oppressive amount of heat! She loved the flowers that were in bloom, the way soquili took to travelling, and the great summer storms that could sweep through the plains. She loved the scent of rain upon dry land, how the ponds and lakes drew soquili from every region to linger, and just how romantic everything seemed to be. Summer was, for this black and white maned mare, truly the time to shine! On a more vain aspect, Lailah had to confess that she loved how the sunlight made her coat's colors stand out at their brightest, and how longer hours of daylight meant more opportunities to show off for any who might care to watch.
Yes, while her mother and sister stayed hidden in the hills, Lailah had left as soon as she'd been old enough to survive on her own. The world was her oyster, and the mare wanted nothing more than to meet as many different types of soquili as she possibly could! There were so many to admire, so many to coo over -- surely, she couldn't be expected to just sit around and wait for life to begin! No, as far as the mare was concerned, she needed to get out there and experience everythin she could! Life wouldn't wait, and neither would she. So it was, Lailah had spent much of her summer socializing. Finding companions here, there, and otherwise -- getting to know soquili of all over. . . and having the time of her life!
Today was no different. A nearby river beckoned, and the mare was on her way to get a drink when a distance glimmer caught her eye. What on earth was that? Not at all a shy mare, and often too inquisitive for her own good, Lailah changed her trajectory and instead cantered towards the direction of the shimmering light. It didn't take long for her to discover the source -- some sort of helmet, or armor -- on what appeared to be a dark-haired soquili!
And such lovely long hair too. Better still, the resting soquili appeared to have the most lovely shade of purple coat! Ah, it was if the world was rewarding her for simply being her . . and why shouldn't she be rewarded? Perhaps this stranger was a knight in golden armor? Perhaps they could use a bit of a diversion? Or maybe they'd get gruff and try to drive her off -- they were rather far from the river. "Salutations, good knight," she spoke, her silver eyes bright with warmth. "The sheen of your helmet caught my eye, and I'm afraid I couldn't resist taking a better look." Of both the helmet and the soquili that wore such armor . . . and yes, Lailah certainly liked what she saw.
