Where: The Dark Swamp
When: Shortly after arriving in the swamp, Voscil wanders off with MamaJu and finds a rather familiar face in Afryse.

The mountains of Busthind had been replaced in favor of much different kind of terrain. The little lightning charged psionic would have preferred they stay there but not wanting to lose track of the group and their important mission Voscil had journeyed deeper into the murky swamp lands. At one point she chose to wander off for a bit, just to explore the area. Voscil promised she'd be back to no one in particular as she crept along her large tigress for a mother close behind.

Energy surrounded the young troll as she made herself into a make shift light bulb in order to better see where she was going. Her mind wandered, jumbled with a mixture of feeling and emotion she couldn't place. The usually bubblie troll felt her shoulders round just a bit as she finally thought she had some time to herself. She had to admit, for all the worrying she'd done seeing Zeffer had calmed her nerves enough to make the situation that had unfolded seem less awful. While grateful for that, the yellowblood still found herself looking for something she had yet to find. It was a confusing feeling, almost like when you find yourself forgetting or missing something vital.

The tangle of thoughts in her thinkpan were falling and tumbling like stones. They didn't seem to know how to settle or really make any real sense and left her pouting. Everything wasn't as it seemed, and that frustrated Voscil. She lacked the patience to really make sense out of most of the more abstract concepts she'd encountered tonight. That only soured her mood further as she gave a yelp of surprise feeling her shoe be pulled off her foot. "Noo! That's my shoe not yours give it back." Vos jutted out her lower lip some. Her bare foot touched the muddy ground making her stick out her tongue. "Ugh yuck!" She whined trying to reach for the lost shoe as she held onto an uninjured portion of Mamaju's fur for an anchor. Truthfully Voscill was just afraid to meet the same fate as her shoe.

Afryse slogged across the swamp, his eyes glued at the ground. Somewhere between the entrance of the swamp and here, he had lost Hemera. Father was there, but he was hiding in and out of the trees, not wanting to be seen even by his charge. Without a friend or anyone near, Afryse was left with the racket of his thoughts. They weren't very happy at the moment. It was a confusing swirl of anger, defeat, confusion, and pain.

Why had he helped Zindel? He hated Zindel. Did he hate Zindel like that? Even then, was it not payback that the betrayer would die from fire wounds after complaining loudly about his ice? The yellowblood snorted and kicked a rock. Sticky mud sucked it in, all his force only having turned it on a new face. He stared at it, angry now that even this rock wouldn't react to him properly. Father had been hurt and he had relied so heavily on Hemera it was terrifying. She was slowly starting to take a significance in his life he couldn't express.

A bright, feminine voice caught his ear. Yuck? Oh! Was that Hemera? Afryse jerked himself away from the rock and kept moving, his boots slowing him down as they squelched in the mud. Grabbing a handful of vines, he pulled them aside to find Heme --

Voscil.

Afryse stood, rooted in place. He was at an angle that would make it difficult for the other troll to notice him. A shoe slowly blurped deeper into the muddy puddle. Afryse took stock numbly. She was getting her shoe. The one he had lost was frantically trying to get a shoe. Hot anger flushed his cheeks as tears stung his eyes. A ******** shoe!? Here she was struggling for it, endangering herself for some dumb clothing piece. She had not even exerted that much effort in finding him, even prior to this fight. Had he just been a roadblock from people she wanted to interact with more? Anger made his teeth chatter, his fist by his side shaking as the air turned ominously cold.

He reached out and the mud that had been absorbing the shoe slowly stiffened. All around the pond, soft crystals of ice floated in the air as a the mud cracked and flaked from the sudden cold. It was a sudden freeze, but only in that one spot

Voscil felt the cold chill before she actually knew someone was there. The yellowblood crackled with lightening defensively, ready to bolt from fear of what had found her. Confusion blazed in her eyes as she looked around frantically. There was only one troll she knew who could do that, and the likely hood it was her icy troll....what were the odds? Her eyes widened as she touched the sheet of ice before finally she found him. Her pump biscuit skipped a beat, thudding wildly like a caged lusi that had just been stirred from its slumber.

Her shoe was forgotten in a moment notice; although she was glad the puddle was no longer a hazard. She would have fallen in at the rate she was going. Standing up even if it was cold on her one foot, she started moving towards him. Tears pricked at her eyes as she hummed with static electricity at finally FINDING him. "A..affy...?!" She stammered out in a happy cry. Her energy lifted her up off the ground, a blurr of movement as Voscil crossed the distance between them. She was in a hurry to get to him.

However like a generator cutting its power, as she crashed into him he was not shocked. The glow of yellow waves and electrical sparks were gone in the blink of an eye as she grabbed hold. Voscil clung tightly to him, latching on as her frame trembled. "Afryse! You're okay!" Her teeth clicked together with the mashing of her pointed teeth as she tried to keep her jaw from chattering. Tears freely cascaded down her marked cheeks.

A clash of emotions swelled up in her. She had missed him so much; it was hard when you didn't know exactly where someone lived. This troll...meant so much to her. She didn't even understand it exactly, only that she was overjoyed to have finally been reunited with him. Even if she looked horrible, was covered in muck and grime and probably smelled.

None of that mattered right now!

This was different then how she felt about Reemus, while he did mean the world to her this yellowblood before her had stolen her pump biscuit at Bloodfest. It was after their first fight following capture the flag. The fact he'd cared enough to approach her even if she hadn't been mad meant the world to her. Just like having him here now did. "I didn't know you where here..! I didn’t know where you were a-at all…I just wanted to help. I followed a friend of mine and tried to keep them safe. But then I got caught behind the rocks after the explosion and..and.." Another few stray droplets slid down her cheeks as she pulled back a little to look into his eyes. She knew she was babbling, but that stopped the moment she got a good look at him up close.

Why did her friend look so angry...? She didn't understand.

The most frustrating part, the most baffling part, the most agonizing part of Voscil was how her touch and presence sapped the anger from him and stripped Afryse down to bare studs. He wanted to be so angry, so angry at her for not caring about him. She hadn't seen him. She had so many others. He was nothing but a drop in an ocean to her.

But she held onto him despite the cold, and the relief in her eyes and voice were like sweet succor after the terrors of the caves. How could he remain angry at someone who, without even trying, disarmed him so thoroughly? His pump biscuit caught in his windpipe, and Afryse tried to choke it down as the speedy troll kept at her fast pace. Her words tumbled out, jamming up every inch of his think pan.

"V-voscil." Her name like a prayer whispered out. Crying. She was crying? Afryse blinked and felt a chill burn down his cheek. Apparently, so was the ice troll. Slowly the ice of the mud and around his body retreated, faded just as the anger did. It left behind a hallow gash of sorrow.

She looked as if she wanted to pull away, but he pulled her in again, holding her fast. His words stammered, shivered out, but unlike Voscil's, it was not due to the cold, "I-I thought you... I thought you didn't want to see me. That I didn't matter to you. And then I saw you... Chasing that teen and I... I lost you. I lost you and you ran and I couldn't..."

His voice broke as an anguished plea whispered from his lips, "I can't keep losing you like this Voscil."

Voscil realized despite her tears, being close to him was comforting. Not like how a lusus made one safe, but it was similar by comparison. In the shelter of his arms, she felt just maybe everything wasn't so scary..Vos could feel her pump biscuit begin to beat irregularly like a caged wild lusi at the thought of never seeing him again.

She hid her face against his neck for the moment calming down before his words made her freeze in place and stare in horror at him.

"No..?! I wouldn't just ignore you if I knew..I have more than one friend sure, but I wouldn't leave you behind just cuz." She whispered quitely, feeling guilty for making the other worry. "I'm so sorry..I don't mean to make you worry." She added softly, hesitantly brushing back some of his hair from those confused eyes. How could she make it up to him? She'd really screwed up, but at least she'd been honest instead of lying.

Right?

"I've done some really bad stuff..I don't think I can just walk back into normal society Afryse." She swallowed nervously looking away in shame. "But I don't want to loose track of you either..I'm scared but what choice do I have? I attacked a solider of the empire to protect the rebels." Voscil whispered sadly finally looking at him, making eye contact admitting to her war crimes. Because she trusted him without question.

"All I know is we are heading north.." Her eyes were wide, trying not to keep crying like a wiggler. She didn't want to let go, when he held her tightly she leaned into him nuzzling her marked cheek against his jumper. "Afry..se I.." She started to say, swearing she heard a noise faintly off somewhere. Vos wasn't sure, but she didn't expect her friend to follow her for her mistakes. But she wanted to stay with him..it was confusing. "I don't want you to get hurt..maybe when things quiet down I'll come back and look for you?" Voscil added in a sad, yet hopeful tone. The young pre-teen gripped at the other fiercely, hugging him possessively.

There were sounds, the soft crunch of leaves and the muted whispers. Their time was running short. Perhaps, if he hadn't met Hemera, then he would have followed Voscil in a minute, a heartbeat. Even if the other powered yellowblood did funny things to his pumpbiscuit, she was no longer his only friend. Besides, he had pulled Hemera into the mess. Leaving her stranded was beyond callous - it was negligent and horrible.

"North..." he committed it to memory. A fugitive, running from the law. Voscil Torgny, his first friend, now a rebel. Nodding slowly, he hugged her back just as possessively. It'd be months, maybe longer, until they could see again. He wanted her to remember him through the times. Gog knew he would, "I'll come back here. I promise. You promise too. We'll see one another again."

The sound was approaching. Hissing in disappointment, he pushed onto his tiptoes and kissed her cheek lightly, "Thank you, Voscil. I'll distract them, you need to get out of here." Telling from their lack of competence, they were most likely military drones. Turning on heel, he left, fled the heartache that swam in him. They'd see one another again, one day. For now... Well, he had to make sure she got out of this predicament alive.

Voscil felt tears threatening her eyes again, realizing she'd have to let go of him. This was part of the consequences for her blindly following Reemus, and willingly assaulting an Empirical officer. Yet there was some kind of light in the gloomy darkness, and there was a chance she would see him again. For now, maybe it would have to be in dreams but she would remember him. It was impossible to forget him, or the fact she felt like it was leaving a part of herself behind to see him walking away from her.

His cool lips hand kissed her lightning bolt marked cheeks, and for a moment she was rooted in place, touching the spot. She'd quickly returned the gesture before he could tell her he would go away to distract them. Voscil was as quick as lightning after all. "I promise..! I want to see you again." She meant it, there was a firmness to the set of her jaw, and a seriousness that was not like her usual joyful self. If she never saw him again, the psionic yellowblood couldn't help but feel cheated, even if she had a good friend in Reemus. The idea set her teeth on edge and made her ball her fists.

"Be safe..I'll miss you." She added as the troll quickly shook out her muddied shoe, shook her foot off and pulled it on. She had to get moving, he was being selfless to protect her and she wouldn't waste it. Voscil would come back to this spot, and even if it took time for them to encounter one another...she was determined they would meet again. Sniffing she ignored the blurring of her vision as tears rolled down the trolls cheek as he rushed off to find the other rebels and resume protecting the cart containing the eggs and the mothergrub.

Voscil could only hope she'd chosen the right path, and wasn't horrible mistaken for refusing to turn herself in. She didn't know, she ran past the tears before she turned around and ran back to him. The promise they'd meet again would have to tide her over for now, and the warming place on her cheek that was now warmed with the swamp air. She hoped he meant it, and they really would Voscil would hold him too it.
