Stasya was very happy. Their little group of healers had been steadily growing, and, with the buffalo herd's promise of protection, they were safer than they had ever been. This guarenteed safety brought more soquili out of the woodwork, and now the traveling healers were beginning to resemble a herd.
The unicorn was especially excited at the present moment, because she had managed to recruit another helper to their cause while on a walk by the nearby stream. A lovely Cerynei that was wandering with no place to call her home. Stasya quickly told her that she could find a home traveling with her peaceful group of nomadic healers. She had agreed after some coaxing, and now Stasya was marching her back to where the group had set up a temporary camp while they collected the local herbs and plants.
"It's just up ahead, Nasille," Stasya said, looking over her shoulder and smiling at the green Cerynei. "I'm so excited to introduce you to everyone,"

Nasille would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. Being led towards a group of strangers by another stranger didn't settle well with her, but the unicorn was so kind. Nasille's parents had told her to always trust a unicorn, but, in the past, trusting a unicorn had done nothing but break her heart. However, this unicorn, Stasya, had offered her a place to call home and a purpose. Nasille had been perfectly content to wander aimlessly and alone, but this new opportunity had piqued her interest. She did like to feel useful, and lately there was no one that really needed her and she was lonely.
So Nasille figured that this could be nothing but good. And if this turned out to be a trap or something bad... well unicorns were two for two with being deceitful, and her parents were dead wrong.

Stasya grinned as they crossed the treeline and entered the small clearing that the herd had settled in. A large brown and tan buffalo lounged to their right and gave the two a nod.
"Hello, Bubba! I'm back. Is all well?" Stasya asked, smiling brightly at him.
"Yup, all is well, Princess," the buffalo reported. "Some other scouts are just getting back from herb collecting and we're only waiting on a few more,"
"Wonderful! Come, Nasille, I want you to meet my second-in-command and then you can meet everyone else,"
Stasya scanned the clearing before spotting her apprentice.
"Ah, there she is - Alucia!"

It had been a relatively productive day for Alucia and Emerald. The two had gone with Bubba's mate, Betsy, to scout the east part of the surrounding forest. They had found a lot of dead, overturned trees and a small patch of marsh land. Swamp grasses had been plentiful, and, with Betsy's help, they had rolled the dead logs and collected the moss and mushrooms that had grown on the wet and rotting bark.
The trio had just come back with their bounty and were organizing it with the help of some of the raccoons that had joined up with them, when Stasya returned. Alucia was busy delegating where the day's collections needed to go, so she didn't notice her teacher's approach until her name had been shouted. She looked up from the pile of swamp grasses and froze, her wide eyes immediately set on Stasya's companion.
Emerald, immediately noticing her friend's distress, stared at Alucia questioningly, before following her gaze to Stasya and.... oh.
"Uh-oh," Emerald groaned. "This is not good,"
"Maybe," Alucia whispered, looking down at Emerald. "Maybe she doesn't remember..."
Emerald gave Alucia the driest look she could conjure up.
"You think she'll forget the mare that left her all those years ago -"
"I mean it's been a long time!"
"-after ruining her engagement,"
"....euuurgh," Alucia lowered her head, defeated, before quickly attempting to recover as Stasya stopped in front of her. Stasya did not know about the dark parts of her life, and Alucia wanted it to stay that way for as long as possible. She slapped on the biggest smile she could muster.
"Oh Stasya, welcome back! We managed to get a good haul from the swamp in the east," the purple unicorn tried not to let her internal dread show as she turned to Nasille. "Oh, and who is this?" she asked, smiling at the mare.

Nasille would be lying if she said she wasn't absolutely gutted when she saw the purple and green unicorn. How long... how long had it been since she'd laid eyes on Alucia? The unicorn that had ruined her adolescent years and had her questioning her parent's advice of trusting unicorns. Well, Nasille was absolutely positive that her parents had been sniffing some weird plant when they had bestowed this stupid advice upon her. Because right now, unicorns were becoming bad omens.
She bit down on her lip and fought her flight response as Stasya lead her to Alucia. She was settled on the ground with a large green wolf... Nasille could not recall the wolf's name... and another buffalo. She stared at the ground until Alucia had acknowledged her... if that's even what you'd call it. 'Who is this?' Did she really... Does she not?
A part of her heart shriveled up a bit more as the words flew from the unicorn's mouth. How could Alucia forget her so easily? It had been a long, long time ago... but... Nasille had not forgotten.
"I'm Nasille... pleasure to meet you," she smiled, content with acting like her feelings had not just been violently stomped on. Two could play at this game.

Alucia smiled through the pain. This was a good thing, she told herself. Their lives were both better off this way. Yup. This was definitely a good thing.
"Nice to meet you too, Nasille," she said. "Excuse me, but I need to get this over to Jasmine,"
With that, she gripped the bag of swamp grass in between her teeth and practically ran to Jasmine, who was across the clearing.
Emerald sighed and shook her head. They were both idiots. This was going to be awful.
