Quote:
The local dragonseer (that's a fancy word for someone who rides on a balloon and stares at the fog from above) wants your help in locating potential signs of danger and sand whales. You are to ride the balloon up and take a look.

You must first assemble the balloon. Pick any two items from the list below to make the basket of your balloon out of. Rp accordingly:

- Snake leather
- Thick rope
- Flaming carpet
- A basket of foxfires
- A white cloth
- Carved sand whale bone
- A net
- A table
- A door
- Five golden rings
- A pine tree
- A trash can
- A really really really really big bottle

- Next, to ascend, roll 1d100. This is the number of feet that your balloon launches to the sky. If you roll a 1.. you kind of suck. Maybe you're really bad with balloons. Maybe youre too heavy. Maybe your buddy should get off. Who knows.

If your character is lucky and manages to roll above 50 feet, they will get to see the town below them. You notice that the town is shaped like an S. You can also see clearly the town below you.

If your character rolls above 80 feet, you end up going too high into the highest miasma clouds. The thin air makes exposure to miasma easily and you gain +5 miasma.

As long as you roll over 50 feet you succeed in this venture.

Dragonseer, admittedly, sounded like a much more important position than it actually ended up being.

While Nkosazana did not mind flying in hot air balloons necessarily, she had thought they were going to see majestic old creatures or something similarly as awe worthy. It did intrigue her, though, that they insisted on calling someone who flew in a balloon a "dragonseer." Was there something above the clouds that was reminiscent of a dragon? It seemed the most logical response to her, anyway.

Or perhaps there were dragons up there? It was rather hard to see quite high up considering all the fog that was overcast.

The best way to find out the answers to those questions appeared to be playing along with the locals, though, and actually creating a balloon to fly up high with the dragonseer. While flying was the purview of the clan of War usually, there were those in Death that could fly, and they were also fairly high up in the tower, so a fear of heights did not strike her. What did strike her was the fact that she was expected to make what would be supporting her herself.

She had never made a flying contraption before; contraptions were the work of the scientist types of Famine and Conquest and perhaps even the Jewelcrafters of Death to some extent. It could not have been too difficult, right? If it was, none of those here would have ever been able to do it. She just needed to figure out what was necessary to carry her particular body up into the skies.

There were a lot of things sitting in front of her that she could use. Leather, rope, doors, clothes, trash cans, all of these seemed like logical possibilities. There were then the ones that were less so, like the flaming carpet at the net. It didn't seem like a net would make a particularly safe material to make a carriage out of, and she had to question why it was even in with the rest of the flying supplies.

Of course, then again, perhaps there was a good reason for it. Cloth was often used as a way to hold people, but it would not be particularly sturdy just on its own in the air. Perhaps if she could attach it to the net, she would be better off. Locating some adhesive, Nkosazana set to work on attaching the cloth to the net, leaving the net on the outside to support it, and the cloth on the inside to make the ride up just a bit smoother.

"There, that'll work," Nkosazana seemed confident for a moment, but that was quickly shattered when she added a, "I hope."

It seemed that Nkosazana's theory on how to make baskets for balloons was rather well founded.

As she arose, Nkosazana thought with a smile that she was right--the simplest answer was indeed the most obvious one that she could come up with. A net sturdying the softer structure that was often associated with holding humans in the first place was a good support, as it did not leave the cloth too frail or the net too full of holes.

Once she made it high enough, Nkosazana took herself out of her thoughts to get to work on the actual assignment she had been given by the villagers. They had wanted her to look for potential signs of danger and sand whales in particular, which she had been lucky enough to not run into herself so far, though it seemed that there were plenty that were currently sitting themselves on a nearby mountain. She would mention that to the villagers when she got herself back down.

While she was up here, she was able to see the village as a whole for the first time. Interestingly enough, the whole village appeared to be shaped in an "S" format. Considering she was used to circular towers or, just in general, circles, it was a different looking format than she was used to, and she took note of it.

Once making a few more observations, Nkosazana started to let herself down, pleased with how pleasant the trip had been. For all the chaos that had brought them here, this remote Halloween village was not all that bad.
