Your character must catch one of the local minipets wandering around. Roll 1d10 and see what phrase you get from the list. Then use the minisglossary to pick a pet with that phrase in it (do not pick SE pets or RE ones!)

6. Cheese
7. Onion

9. Wish
10. Eyeball

Once they have caught one, they need to carefully examine it to make sure it has no signs of the virus (the symptoms are possibly purple, evil looking, very vicious) then they can let it go. If however, it is purple or shows possible signs of the virus, they should hand it in to the villager. Roll 1d4 to see what the villager gives you for your time.

1. You get nothing. They take the pet and go away.
2. You get a halfhearted thumbs up.
3. The pet bites you as you near away from it! Ouch! Add +2 to your miasma meter.
4. The villager looks at you. He says "they key to the door is 8888." He leaves.

Perhaps there were better ways to get information out of these secretive villagers than just asking them directly. They may have just not liked answering questions until they were more familiar with the person asking them.

Therefore, when Nkosazana was asked by one of the villagers if she could help them find minipets with a certain infection or sickness, she was willing to put her best foot forward and help. If she found what they were looking for, perhaps they would be more willing to give her some more information about where they were in turn. That was all she could ask for.

Nkosazana did not ask for this beforehand, though, not wanting to frighten the seemingly shy villagers away from giving her appropriate advice. Instead, she accepted, asked where she should look, and headed off in that direction.

Carefully, Nkosazana bent down and began to look through foliage and shadowed locations for minipets that may have been hiding away from the other villagers. At first, she didn't see anything that really seemed out of the ordinary, but she kept looking until she spotted a small wishing minipet that appeared to be wearing some kind of hat on its head. It seemed happy enough.

Nevertheless, it could have been infected. Nkosazana needed to get a closer look before she could determine that for sure.

She was uncertain if the infection was contagious, so she would keep her distance for now. How was this minipet supposed to look? While she was plenty familiar with foxfires due to Medea's foxfire, err, problem, she was not too familiar with many other minipet species. She kept a few minipets in her apartment herself, but none looked like this.

There were a few things she was supposed to look for, though. Purple, evil-looking, and vicious. The creature didn't seem very vicious, honestly, but it did seem a bit oddly purple. Maybe that was a bad sign? Maybe it had just gotten the infection! Perhaps the villagers could stop it.

Concerned, Nkosazana lifted up the minipet and went to see what the villagers would do about it.

Once she found the villager who had originally asked for her help, she beckoned them over. "I think I might have found one!" The villager came over as beckoned, looking over the minipet they were presented with. "I am not familiar with this minipet," admitted Nkosazana, "though that may be because of my origin." She figured it was probably obvious she was a horsewoman, unlike the younger students who mostly had seemed to have landed there. "Still, it does appear to have a different colouration, in that it appears to be purple. I'm not sure purple would be this minipet's natural colour..."

The villager held up a hand to quiet Nkosazana's rambling, and she quietly apologized, putting her head down and shutting her mouth. There were a few more moments of quiet while Nkosazana waited for the villager to review what she had presented him with, before they were suddenly interrupted by a grunt. She glanced up to find that they had presented her with a thumbs up. Oh. Was it infected then? "Was that what you were looking for, then?" That seemed to be the implication, at least, as the villager nodded and walked away from her with the small minipet still in their hands.

They, unfortunately, walked away too fast for Nkosazana to get the chance to ask them any questions. Still, it was a start, at least. If she did more things for the villagers, perhaps they would be inclined to start helping her in turn. Perhaps one of them even knew how to fix the broken down bus. That would be nice...
