Their previous attempt at the task had ended prematurely in the most anti-climatic fashion. Perhaps the long day was starting to take a toll on the ghoul, as she found herself rather irritated at the idea of having to climb up the mountain once again.
And to stumble into a cloud of miasma, as she had done previously as well.

egg from hereHistory had an uncanny tendency to repeat itself, and the man, startled to see the ghoul disappear into the fog, had yet again dropped the wyvern egg in his hands in panic.

re roll with new egg hereSeeing that Edel was fine (asides from the strange purple glow that emanated from her since the last time she had emerged from the fog), Ivar quickly hurried himself to find another wyvern egg to replace the one he had dropped. He would keep quiet about the fact that he was hurting from scraping his knee against the rough cliff in the attempt to save the egg, not wanting to trouble the ghoul any more, though in his mind he was starting to get worried about the number of minor injuries he had sustained from this trip alone.

Was it the fact that she was glowing purple? Or that she had heard a whisper by her ear and turned around too frantically in surprised response. Either way, the ghoul would soon find herself wishing that she had taken her stealth classes at Amityville a bit more seriously when she found herself face to face with a Giant Snake.
A panicked cry rang out from behind her, but the last thing the ghoul saw was the image of the Giant Snake's mouth enveloping her vision and swallowing her whole.
Darkness, and then the pumpkin patch.
Edel was now rather mad at letting herself get dissipated after such a long time (well, at least for over a year now – a long time considering the recent history of events).

And so she made her way up the mountain once more, taking great care this time to avoid the cloud of miasma. The ghoul could only hope that Ivar would be able to fend for himself against the Giant Snake while she took her time to get back to the nest.

Just barely slipping past the Giant Snake, the ghoul found the nest to be empty, with no signs of the dark elf around. As she replaced the wyvern egg in her hands with one from the snake's nest, she also noticed that none of the other eggs have been replaced either.
Which could only mean one thing...

Yelling for her was probably a stupid idea – no, it was definitely a stupid idea. Just moments after Edel had disappeared into the Giant Snake's belly, Ivar found himself facing the same fate with no where else to run. The feelings of regret, and the terrible thoughts of mortality barely had time to rush through his mind and the man found himself surrounded by darkness.

But that was not the end, he realised, and soon he would wake up at the pumpkin patch. He could barely rejoice over the fact that he was not actually dead, noticing that the frost demon was not there as well despite having been eaten earlier. Clambering around the pumpkins, he was growing desperate at the idea that she was gone … until it occurred to him that she might have felt the same about having left him there at the snake's nest too.
Could she have made her way back there? he wondered, reaching the conclusion that she very well might have, and that meant that he should return there too.
Unfortunately, he would find that the wyvern egg in his care had been smashed apart once again, meaning that he would have to take a short detour to retrieve yet another.

new egg hereFamiliar with the way up the mountain to the Giant Snake's nest, the dark elf made haste to return to the lair. Small doubts began to creep in, as he wondered if his speculations had been right after all. He would soon be able to tell, as he neared the nest...

Ducking sharply to avoid the gaze of the great snake, the man crawling towards the nest, executing the task of replacing the wyvern egg for one of the snake's. He was relieved to find another wvyern egg lying amongst the pile, meaning that he had probably guessed right about the frost demon's actions.
Still, the fact that she was not present at the nest could not reassure him completely, not at least until he could actually see for himself that she was indeed alive and well.

“Nice of you to join me...” she was not smiling, busy dealing with two velociraptors who had managed to sniff her out.
A spray of ice daggers pelted the creatures, stabbing one of them through the neck and felling it with a shrill cry.
“...Hold on, did you -” she turned around to stare at the man, figuring out why he had taken so long. “Are you alright?” she asked, expressing much more concern.
“As well as you are,” he answered regretfully, noting the change in her tone when she realised that he had probably been eaten by the snake too.

The second velociraptor was quickly slain, the ghoul hardly bothering to check on it as she made her way over to the man, eyes scrutinizing him for any signs of injury (beyond those minor ones she already knew of).
“You...” she began, scrunching up her face with mild upset, “Alright, the same goes for me as well, but please be more careful.” Dissipating too often ran the risk of not being able to reform back properly, so she had been taught, and luckily for her she had the infirmary at school to take care of the process for all those times she had been dissipated before.
Perhaps it was because the Giant Snake had swallowed them whole, which made the recovery less problematic. Either way, the ghoul was not happy about it, especially the idea that it might have been the first time the man had experienced it.

They would have to save their chit chat for later, seeing as to how they were now being chased by more of the creatures who had come for the eggs. Finding themselves at the edge of a waterfall, the man began to have thoughts about being dissipated again with this unfortunate twist of fate.
“We're going to jump,” she declared fearlessly, turning to look at the man, “Please hold on tightly...”
A globe of ice began to grow around them, encapsulating the two within. There was a slight pause before she grabbed on to him, hurling themselves off the waterfall into the waters below.

The large ball of ice managed to stave off most of the impact, and its buoyancy floated them back up to the surface before it began to crack. By the time it had fully disintegrated, they had drifted into shallow waters near the bank, leaving them to stumble in the water for a moment before wading out of the river to safety. The eggs were still intact, though they were not within their most immediate concerns.
The two were left staring at each other for a long time.
“Shall we head back?” he finally broke the silence. The ghoul nodded, picking up her egg to head back to the village. It had been a very long day...
