User ImageIt was warmer, much warmer than Halldora expected. This was her first time off the top of the mountain where they normally lived and everything was different. The snow had long since faded from underfoot and now she stepped in grass, soft and malleable beneath her paws. The trees grew so tall here, reaching up towards the sky with long limbs and tall tops. The sun blazed high and hot down on her back causing her to feel hot and sticky for the first time in her thick fur. There was no chill breeze that bit at one’s nose and stung the eyes, and there was so much color.

She had of course seen flowers and the like before but never this many at the same time. Dozens and dozens a field of them spread as far as the eye could see and the flutter buddies with their colorful wings made a cacophony for the eyes. So if truth be told it really wasn’t her fault that she had somehow gotten separated from her Warband who had come down from the mountains to rove and pillage.

Lady Halldora had turned away from just one moment and they had vanished from existence. She wasn’t too afraid of course, she’d find them soon enough. Right now she was so busy being caught up with the sights and sounds of this new area that she wasn’t overly worried.

Besides who was going to mess with a Snaeblod? No one was that dumb, she could take down anyone twice her size, after all she’d been training for this for a long time. She wasn’t terribly worried about getting into trouble, not by this point anyhow.

She wasn’t sure how long she had been gone, but the Olfattir was starting to sink towards the horizon indicating that day was coming to an end. There was still some time yet but Halldora was starting to worry she might not find her Warband before nightfall, which would mean she’d have to spend the night out here alone.

Now that wasn’t exactly terrible either, after all, she was one of the strongest of her clan right it made sense that she could survive on her own for a night. Though she was starting to grow mighty hungry and so far she hadn’t found anything to eat. Not that she was terribly used to hunting in these conditions, if she could just find something; even something to drink at this point would be nice.

As if the gods themselves had heard her prayers the sound of a stream reached her ears. Following the sound she came upon a stream that she soon found littered with fish. Well she could always go fishing, it wasn’t her favorite past time but she sure did love the taste of them. The lady drank first lowering her large head to the water her mane long even now falling slightly into the stream. One day she hopped to have one as long as her sisters, so long it dragged the ground!

Once her thirst was sated she lowered herself down to the edge of the stream and waited, watching the water for the perfect moment to strike.

User Image As a filly recently out of foalhood, Teleri was finally learning to master her wings. She had heard that wind foals had a hard enough time of flying, and since a friend of hers was blessed with the Angeni's two pairs of wings, she knew they didn't fly right off the bat either. If flying with one pair of wings was hard, and so was two... Well, a filly with three pairs had no reason to be ashamed. There was a certainly stubborn corner of her mind that kept at it though, determined to be the first of her siblings to taste the high winds. Which led to practice, lots and lots of practice.

So whenever she could, Teleri wandered away from the Flock and she practiced. Running and swimming and using her wings, but traveling, building her stamina and making a mental map of the lands near the Flock. She memorized herbs and mushrooms, gathered forage for the herd, and made friends with those she was fortunate enough to cross paths with. She gathered and wandered and chattered, and generally learned all she could.

She reveled in the sunlit meadows, the looming dark of the forest, the chime of rocks beneath her hooves that heralded the foot of the mountains. She drank deep of crystal pools fed by mountain runoff, rolled in meadows filled with flowers and dreamed that one day soon she'd climb up to where ice and snow held sway. She wanted to experience the strange frozen flakes, to roll in the fluttering white chill, find her hooves again and marvel about the snow told tales of where she had been.

But those were dreams for a different time, for now she was on the ground heading for a meadow to practice her flight. It had already been a long day of activities within the Flock and yet again an extra dance lesson. And Teleri was beginning to be quite confident in her abilities even as she worked to maintain control of her lengthening limbs. Flight practice helped with that, of course. "Gonna learn to fly today! Have to!"

If she was lucky, she'd make it back in time for before-bed stories. Maybe she could even fly home! Picking up a gleeful trot, Teleri sped toward the stream that she knew was nearby, meaning to drink deeply before visiting the meadow to practice. If she was lucky she'd be there before the butterflies left, and stay until just after the fireflies awoke for the evening.

"All my favorite things." She grinned, frisking around the last corner of forest and then stumbling to a sudden stop.

There was a strange mare dwelling on the bank of the stream, her pelt shades of white and gray like the distant peaks. From where she stood Teleri couldn't see her eyes, but there were great horns on her head that made the filly shift nervously.

"Who are you?"

~Latonia de la Courtel~

Halldora hadn’t heard the other mare approach, thus when she was spoken to it startled her. She jumped slightly shifting around to look at the femme with wide eyes for a moment. Hall arched upwards pulling herself up to her full height, which as of right now wasn’t very tall but one day would be. Still she made an imposing figure standing tall among the flowers.

She took note that the other didn’t seem all that intimidating, if anything she seemed small and delicate. Her wings stuck out in every angle, and little horns protruded from her head. Honestly Halldora felt she was more wings than filly at this point. She gave a small laugh shaking the thought away before eyeing the female once more.

“I’m Lady Halldora Snaeblod, and who are you?” Her tone was almost firm but more curious than anything. Her hunt for lunch not forgotten as she took a tentative step closer to the filly, her great paws pushing the flowers apart with ease as she stepped. She seemed to realize a bit belatedly that she was probably a scary sight for the other, considering what they were known for. It wasn’t like the Snaeblod tribe was all that friendly to those that lived in the valley below. Well that wasn’t exactly true but still the point remained.

Halldora shifted slightly lowering herself into the flowers once more so as to appear a little less intimidating now that she didn’t see the other as a threat. She supposed that might be a bit presumptuous of her but that was neither here nor there.

“I kinda got lost.” She admitted plucking at a flower with her claws. Her tone was sour as if she was slightly embarrassed to admit such things. Which in truth she was, how poorly did it reflect upon her training to know that she had gotten lost her first time off the mountain? Still she couldn’t help but be entranced by not only the filly but the world around her. It was such an interesting place, so green and alive. While she might not be able to imagine living this far from the Olfattir she could still see the allure to it, especially for all the plant eaters that lived about.

Watching the mare draw to her full (present) height, Teleri felt something like trepidation brewing in her chest. Though the shades-of-gray mare still showed signs that she had growing left to do, her height seemed considerable (and imposing) enough to the still-young filly now facing her. Teleri was smaller, though she still had growing to do, and finer boned which was very much obvious. She lacked a warrior's build, but was lean and graceful as a dancer and slowly learning how to turn that to her advantage as a fighter. As it was, she was not yet equal with her wings yet, and they made her feel a bit awkward as she face the stranger.

"I am Teleri Lindai." The filly returned, her voice calm and measured. She didn't want to sound arrogant or afraid, though meeting someone with the title 'Lady' certainly made her tail flick in wordless worry. When the mare took a step forward and she noted the massive paws, the white filly took an equalizing step backward, the feathers in her crest rising in alarm.

The sudden choice of the Lady to sink into the flowers made Teleri's ears pitch forward curiously, her red eyes going wide. She certainly didn't seem mean, but it was less scary than her looming overhead. The words were surprising, and for a moment she could merely stand there and goggle.

"You got lost?" She echoed, soft and ensure. "I mean.. I guess you don't come down from the mountains, often? You, seem like you would live in the mountains. I guess. I've never really been."

Teleri trailed off for a moment, nervous and silent. Then, with a shrug she nodded at the flower the mare was considering. "I think that one's called a blazing star... Do you have them up in the mountains?"
