gaia_star [ Quest 1: ] Interview two villagers.

Your character(s) must interview two villagers. Villagers are all cloaked for some reason. Villagers may get disinterested when you ask too many questions, your goal is to acquire as much IC information as possible. Maybe they hold the key in your leaving.

Roll 1d10 and match your dice roll to the result below. That is the response they give you to your question. Your character can ask any question they formulate with the response always being the result below. If you roll the same number, you get the same response.

1. The villager glowers at you but does not reply to your question
2. The villager seems busy chopping firewood and is fastidiously ignoring you
3. The villager turns to look at you. They wave... at someone past you.
4. The villager is fishing. They reel in an invisible fish.. or is it just nothing.
5. The villager responds with a hearty grunt.
6. The villager looks you straight in the eye. "No."
7. The villager seems glum beyond their cloak. They mutter a few words involving the terms 'despair' and 'death'.
8. The villager is too busy looking at their toes.
9. The villager is cooking roast ghost fish, it smells delicious. They take out a skewer, offer you it, and then eat it before you can accept.
10. The villager seems passed out. Maybe you should leave them alone...

The village was bad enough on it's own to warrant both Xavier's wariness and fear - but considering that he was mostly on his own when it came to finding his way around, this only served to double his already skyrocketing anxieties. He felt quite on edge, nervous and jittery, and while Hel would have been proud of the fact that he hadn't yet collapsed into a puddle on the floor (or attempted to climb a tree, or tried to bury himself into a hole on the ground, or even get back onto the dang bus), Xavier himself was just happy to be alive.

Not that the villagers were making him feel any better whatsoever.

He approached them all with a tentative expression on his face, Xavier poking his claws together nervously as he sidled up, small step by small step. He was already terrified that he'd make a mistake somehow and offend them all - severe anxiety and a much too active imagination already Xavier picturing himself of running for his life, reels of possible outcomes playing throughout his head.

He wondered if he could just run away now, and save them all the trouble.

"Erm," he said hoarsely, and some of them turned to look at him, eyes narrowed, while others simply ignored him. His shoulders slumped, the feathers in his hair drooping rather dismally and pathetically, a few falling off and fluttering free. Xavier cleared his throat.

"E-excuse me...?"

There was still no answer. Xavier may have wilted a few more inches.

It took him another five minutes of wandering and awkward conversation to find someone who was willing to even give him the time of day. Xavier stumbled across a villager with a spit in front of them, slowly turning what looked like some sort of fishy creature in a slow circle above a roaring fire. It smelled divine; Xavier found himself drifting automatically in that direction, pulling his coats a little more firmly around himself along the way.

"Excuse me?" he asked again, trying to sound a little more confident this time, even if it just came out sounding squeaky and abnormally high pitched. But the villager looked up with an expressionless face, then reached to the side and picked up a long metal stick. He stabbed a piece of meat and held it above the fire - and then, a few minutes later, pulled it off to inspect it, the smell of roast ghost fish wafting up to his nose.

Xavier's mouth watered. He tried to inch closer, claws flexing, and the villager held out the skewer towards him, head tilted to the side.

"F-for me?" Xavier stammered, taken aback and yet simultaneously relieved at this offer. He held out a hand, claws stretching out towards the ghost fish on its skewer. "You really sh-shouldn't have, but t-thank you for your, erm, k-kindness - "

And then, just before his claws touched the delicious looking dinner, the villager snatched it back and popped it into his own mouth. Xavier made a half strangled noise of surprise and despondency, watching as it disappeared, and wondered what was the point of offering it in the first place, then.

He trudged off forlornly, shoulders slumped.

The incident with the (stolen) fish had left Xavier feeling much less sure of himself - not that he ever felt sure of himself, but he'd actually been a tiny bit proud to have been able to make it this far in the first place. He trudged along the outskirts of a smaller group of people and tried to ignore the way they stared at him.

Except he wasn't going to get very far if he didn't actually talk to any of them. Really, all Xavier wanted was to do as little interacting as possible, and get away with as little talking and giving away things as he could, but that was seemingly not possible. In fact, it seemed not only improbable, but ludicrous, which was both sad and disheartening.

He'd just have to make do with what he had, apparently.

A few minutes later, Xavier approached the next set of people, and at least he was far enough away from the fish stealer that he hopefully wouldn't be in danger of offending any of them - and maybe he'd managed to leave some of his shame behind in the process (doubtful, but one could at least hope).

"Erm," he said hesitantly, and approached the first villager he came to that seemed like she might be receptive. She turned her head, gave him a quick once over, and then what Xavier could have sworn was a derisive snort, though he tried not to dwell on that.

"Erm, c-could you, perhaps, p-point me in the d-direction of the s-school bus?"

Silence.

"Er," said Xavier, and his face flushed again. "P-please? You know, the, erm, the s-school bus that was c-carried here by that g-giant snake c-creature, a s-short while ago. Do you know h-how I can g-get back to the b-bus? Preferably without the s-snake?"

More silence. Xavier almost walked away, until one of the villagers answered him.

Well. As much as a hefty snort could be considered an answer.

Xavier left approximately ten minutes later with more questions than when he'd arrived.
