Powderstones are notorious for being extremely heavy and unwieldy to carry. A villager has requested this, can you really deny their offer?
- Your character must head into the darkest, deepest volcano interior. Magma oozes at every precipice of this dangerous area. In the smallest, floating island of non-magma touched sediment is a beautiful powderstone. It is about 6 feet tall and extremely hot. It is very difficult to carry it, let alone breathe in here.
- Your character must carry the powderstone out of the lava. Roll 1d4 three times. That is the distance (feet) you carry the powderstone.
- You must reach a distance of 30 feet to get the powderstone out. If you fail, the powderstone drops at the distance you left it at (on your third dice roll). Only other characters can help you now, by coming into the thread, and picking up the rolls. The SAME characters cannot repeat the same thread. You are free even if you carried a stone in a seperate thread, to help out in a new thread!
- Example: Steve starts, and carries the stone. He rolls 3d4 and gets 6. He carried the stone 6 feet. He now cannot post in the thread anymore and exits before he passes out. Jim can now come in to this RP (as long as they are either invited (QUEST PRP) or just hop in (QUEST ORP). Jim rolls 3d4 and gets 3. The rock is now at 9/30 feet carried. Once again, this quest is not successful until the rock has been FULLY carried 30/30 feet. If it is successful, everyone in the thread gets the +2 raffle tickets.
gaia_smilies/icon_star.gif If you are the person who carries the rock to 30/30 feet, you get a powderstone. it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list

Only moments after he had returned from his trip up the mountain, Wrath was being asked (again, more like told) to complete another task for the villagers. This one he was a little bit more unsure about, since it seemed like, even with his strength and experience with lava, mountains, and rocks from a life lived on the isle of death before it's destruction, the task itself did not feel as if it was one he might be able to complete on his own.
Still, his pride was great, and he did not hesitate for even a moment to agree to doing it.
He was led to the volcano in question, and told that the stone that was sought after was located inside. Carefully, the large death horseman lowered himself down inside, and he instantly broke out into a sweat, his skin feeling the burn even before he had gone very far.
Stubbornly, he continued down, avoiding the lava as best as he could. Before he had made the descent, he had removed his vest, metal claws and belts, leaving them on the surface where they would hopefully still be when he returned.
His journey was not entirely accident free. While his skin continued to feel like it could roast and blister at any given moment, he did manage to suffer through several burns, all of which he knew would heal though he would prefer not to dissipate in a place like this. As he got nearer to where the powderstone lay, he found it harder and harder to breathe, the air thin yet stifling.
Eventually, he reached the island with the powderstone. Wrapping large arms around it, he lifted it up off of the ground. Turning, and taking a deep breath, his teeth gritting tight, he began to carry it.

The going was slow, and hot. Unbearably hot, really. And the powderstone itself was heavy, forever slipping down in his grasp, forcing him to stop and readjust his grip on it so that it did not fall into the lava. Everything burned. His body, his face, his eyes. His breathing came in quick gasps, his forehead was drenched in sweat.
He was definitely sure he was not going to be able to do this, but he gave it his all, anyways. He struggled along, managing to carry the powderstone some few feet, though he held no illusions towards being able to go much further than that.

Though his muscles strained and his entire body both ached intensely and burned with a horrible, searing pain, Wrath somehow managed to continue on, trudging through that unbearable heat with a stubbornness that was nearly as mighty as his stature. If he could spare the breath, he would have probably been cursing the entire time he carried that stone along. As it was, it was all he could do to continue to trudge along, his energy waning with every passing step.
A few more feet of distance from the island was his reward, though he wondered how this could possibly be worth anything that the villagers could offer him in return for the favor.

Just two more feet. That was all he could manage even though he tried his damndest not to give up even then. He could not remember the last time he had felt this much physical strain and pain. In fact, before that moment, he likely did not know such. This was a task taken to extreme levels, and at some point, he had just given up, mentally and physically checking out.
The powderstone slid from his grasp, and he leaned against it, burning, exhausted, muscles twitching with spasms of pain.
This was is. This was as far as he was capable of going.
The might Wrath had given up.

Xavier had no idea how he'd managed to get here.
He remembered being on the bus. He remembered the absolute terror he'd felt while being dragged this way and that by various students - and the giant Jacking snake as it had carried them all off to who knew where. Xavier had tried to act like he knew what he was doing, especially since he had seen a variety of new students stumbling along in confusion as well - but sadly, he was incapable of figuring things out within the first five minutes.
He staggered along awkwardly, came across a boil he didn't recognize, and then realized, quite belatedly, that the boil was not a boil at all, but a Horseman (at least, he thought so), and Xavier was utterly terrified. Especially since he hadn't quite determined how he'd gotten into the cave in the first place.
He gave a little whimper, tentatively inched forward, and took a breath.
Maybe if he tried really hard, he'd be able to get this giant stone out. It was a little intimidating, but at the same time, the horseman was kind of lying on the ground and maybe that meant this was a time for Xavier to prove his own worth (not that there was much of that to go around, sadly.)
He stretched out a claw and hesitantly tapped the side of the stone before wrapping his arms around it.
It was heavy. Xavier gave a squawk, almost toppled over, and heaved it a little higher, trying in vain to push it. He could feel the heat burning into him, and a whimper escaped, but at least he was moving, wasn't he? It was at least something he could maybe sort of kind of perhaps be proud of, right?
(Maybe if he kept telling himself that, it would eventually be true.)

It was not, not only in the Jacking volcanic cave, but the giant stone itself. Xavier could feel the sweat pouring down the side of his face, thick and sticky, and he paused a moment to wipe his brow. Clearly, wearing his normal attire of thick, fuzzy fur and multiple layers had not been the best plan when coming into the cave. He felt as though everything weighed five thousand tons, Xavier's legs dragging as he pushed harder at the stupid stone.
He couldn't seem to catch his breath. Xavier wondered if it was possible for a demon to melt, because if so, he certainly was going to be the first example of such a thing. His long, feathery hair was sticking to the back of his neck, his horns felt as though they were weighing heavily on the top of his head, his claws were digging into the stone, his clothes were sweaty and soggy, and his face was probably several shades of red.
(Except not his normal shades of embarrassment red, this was just simply hot red.)
"Come on, Xavier," he managed to wheeze out, throat dry. He licked his lips and then belatedly realized that talking while attempting to push this enormous, heavy thing was not the best plan, because he desperately wanted water now, every part of him burning.
"Come on...you can do it..."
Sadly, pathetically, Xavier did not get very far on his second attempt at pushing the powderstone - but this was, unfortunately for the demon, the norm for him, and he didn't really expect any differently. He had wished, rather wistfully, that things could have been better, but it seemed not to be.

He was going to melt into a puddle. That was what was going to happen. He was simply going to melt into a puddle right here and now, on the floor of this cave, and no one would ever find him, and no one would ever care, except, maybe, perhaps Helmut, and maybe even Hel, but wait, he didn't really want to think of Hel right now minutes before his death, because he was totally going to die -
Xavier gave an almighty push of his shoulders, wheezing out a breath, and he felt as though everything about him weighed a thousand tons. His clothes were dragging on the ground, his chest felt tight with the effort of breathing, and sweat was pouring down his face in rivets.
Well, at least he managed to move it some distance. Xavier let out a whine of sadness. His claws scraped along the stone, he gave one last strained breath -
- and then he toppled over completely, face first, on the ground.

He must have gotten lost. It was the only explanation for why he was in this dreadful volcano again, readying himself to move another stupid, pretty stone. The boil wiped his brow as he glared at the dripping magma and steaming ground and everything else that made this place blisteringly hot, then he bent his knees, dug his fingers into the rock, and lifted.
The powderstone hopped forward, clearly mocking him as it toppled onto its side.

To his credit, the boil didn't make excuses. He tried to get in there and move it again, but his strength was at an end. The stone rolled over again at the barest touch, however, going farther than it had when he had actually made an effort. It must have been mocking him.

As a final resort, he tried a bit of verbal abuse, but Bren had none of Hel's skill with an insult. He resorted to pushing again, rewarded by only the tiniest hitch of movement. It would have to be enough.

The heat was exhausting. That much he will admit. Uru was without his sister again, this time was because he didn't want her anywhere near heat let alone lava. No, he will bear this task alone. At least, he had thought until he had arrived. There were already others out by the entrance panting and sweating. Some were running in as others were running out. Rolling his shoulders, he stripped himself of his jacket and his pants before rushing in himself.
Modesty? HE HAD NONE!
However, he was careless as he reached to grab the stone slab. He flinched as he pulled his fingers back as they became singed from the heat. So it was going to be like that? At least he was able to move it but a few steps before he had dropped it, adrenaline rush overriding his pain sensors long enough. Time for another strategy...

With a mighty roar, the demon hound threw the stone slab over his shoulder and rushed as far as he could before the sensation of heat could come to the surface. He took a few steps before his mind reeled with pain, letting the stone roll off of his shoulder. He stared offended at the piece as he rested his hands on his hip, doing his best to emit his cold flames but to little avail. With the air so thin here as if he was high in the mountains, he found himself breathing much slower, less deeply, while his body struggled to pant. He wanted to pant. He was wasting so much oxygen in his body by pushing himself as he had been. If he slowed himself down, he might be able to be more helpful to the villagers and moving this stone.
But it was hot. It was too jacking hot. Rolling his head back, a thin sheet of sweat cascaded over his face. The occasional sizzle of steam that emitted around him was from sweat evaporating when it touched down on the heated surface. How he was standing on this magma flow... he wasn't sure. He wasn't going to question it. He's still standing.
"Alright, lets get this done." He talked to himself, psyching himself as he squatted down to the six foot stone slab.

With a final push, the demon hound took a step and felt the oxygen being sapped from his lungs, escaping out of his body. He felt the oxygen that he had left heat and sit inside acting like a stove that was becoming unbearable. He gritted his teeth as he breathed out slow like a kettle letting out steam as the water had became heated. Still, he held onto the six foot stone slab as he stepped further and further from the beginning where the others had left off. Before him, he could see the exit. He had hoped that the cool air from the outside would waft inside and cool him. Just a little bit.
He was briefly cooled when the once dampened tank top was burned off of him as it hung around his neck. Risking it, he took his arm to rip the rags off of him. With a glance, he noticed how ashy and sooty his hand was as he held onto the stone... or was it powdered? He only spared a thought as he moved closer to the exit.
With a hard grunt, he let the stone go as he made a mad dash for the exit. He could not bare it anymore. He moved outside yet remained partially inside. If he forced his highly heated body into the cold, it could cause more damage than any relief. Uru left his mouth open, drawing in cold air into his body as he breathed out the heated. He was letting the warmth stay, but cool his extremities the best he could. The last thing he needed was shocking his body with cold... but his mind was becoming fuzzy and his cognitive was faltering.
"I got it close, someone-someone go and get it." He panted, his head pressed against the side of the cave. "I'm done. I'm.... so done."

False stared at the vast sea of fire, it rolled and bubbled it popped and simmered. The powderstone stood where it had been left other students and creatures fleeing from the heat as False stood before it arms stretched welcoming the burning sensations.
It was power, it was glorious it was what every Pyromancer dreamed to stand before.
And his Jack Damn Cat was swimming through it like it was water. On fire granted, but just swimming along for a moment before bursting into a puff of ink and smoke.
"Really? You just. You really did that? I was having a glorious moment with nature and you had to do that." The cat was gone, off to whatever subspace of ink and fur it existed in before summoning but the s**t eating grin on his face as he paddled past the reaper was seared into his mind.
Grumbling he moved towards the stone shoving it towards the exit and making a solid dent in the process.
