The day seemed to be escaping him faster then he'd anticipated. It felt like he had barely traveled anywhere, yet he knew otherwise. His mother had been a little sad to see him leaving, but she was also encouraging. He was starting to walk his own path in life, really becoming a mature stallion. Or at least he liked to believe so. H'ren snorted at himself, glancing up at the sky again. The sun was just about to set over the mountains and he really wasn't sure where about he was heading either.
Slowing in his walk, the stallion looked about him, taking in his surroundings. The trees weren't so thick here, allowing for plenty of open spaces. If he listened intently, he could hear the faint trickle of water. Perhaps there was a river near by? Or a small stream? It was worth investigating. And maybe he could find a place to relax for the night.
Or he could keep going. That was always an option.
"Water first." He told himself, ears flicking towards the sound of running water as he sniffed gingerly at the air. It took him several minutes to locate the stream, but it was well worth it. H'ren had not realized how parched he actually was. He drank deeply from the stream until he was afraid he might burst from too much water intake.
For a few minutes, he just stood there, listening to the soothing sound of running water and watching the shadows begin to extend across the land. Head tilting curiously, he decided to use the last bit of light he still had to explore the area around the stream. There were small critters creeping about in the trees he passed and the sound of owl's beginning to awake. It didn't strike him a strange at first, when he stumbled along a bone in the ground. He just figured it was from some poor creature that had served its purpose as food for another.
But then he stumbled on another. And another. Until the stallion side-stepped away from the strange sight before him. His ears perked up as he blinked. What... was this? He'd never seen such a thing! It looked very much like someone had put them there purposely. Which made him instantly extend his neck to nose a couple bone back into place. Then he took a step farther back and just stared. He never even noticed the mare that hovered near by.

Kyrieko And three months later I made a reply! xD /fail Sorry for my epic slowness! Illium hadn't expected someone to stumble upon her gardens. In fact, the mare had only just awoken a few moments earlier, and was on her way to the stream to shake away the grogginess of sleep, when she'd caught sight of a figure trampling along her precious bones. While her purple eyes had flared in a moments annoyance, the mare was kind enough to know that many did not see her beautiful bones. . . and fewer still took the time to realize where they were walking, much less what they were trampling upon!
Thankfully, this particular stallion had been thoughtful and considerate enough to step out of the patch of land, and even nose a few of the bones back into place. That ease the flare in her eyes, and caused the mare a moments pleasure -- it was good that he was so considerate. Good, good, good. Very good.
Still, Illium didn't move from the shadows of the woods. Instead, she decided to observe the stranger, to watch what he did, and what he might do next. Her night vision allowed her a better view; darkness and shadows meant little to her, and though colors were often skewed, there was enough twilight yet for her to see some patterning. He was strangely feathered -- how unique! -- but didn't appear to have hippogryph blood. Honestly, he looked patchy and colorful . . . though the whites didn't look all white or silver, either. How unusual.
Ah, but he looked strong, and healthy, and Illium could visualize the bones that were hidden snugly beneath his skin. Such lovely bones he might posses. . bones, bones, bones! Maybe, just maybe, he'd have something to offer her. Maybe, just maybe . . . She could only imagine what sort of spine a stallion like he might possess. Particularly with those feathers poking up every which way. Wouldn't that be a delightful addition to her garden? Perhaps when he was through, she could lay claim to such a magnificent spine. . . .
Still.
Illium knew that looks alone wouldn't serve. She needed a closer inspection to see if his spine was truly what might be missing in her garden. To poke at his hooves, to have him open his jaw, to get a better understanding of what he might feel like, and what general size his spine might be. Surely, he wouldn't mind that, would he? Illium was the best bone gardener in the area, after all . . . if not the Kawani!
Giving a happy tail shake, the mare decided that there was no more reason to hide. The skull upon her shoulder's eyes seemed to glow in agreement, and so, with a gentle smile, she slipped quietly from the shadows. "Good evening, stranger," she spoke, her words low but full of warmth. Illium was not a shy mare, not at all. She wasn't entirely sure whether or not this stranger would linger now that he knew he wasn't alone -- sometimes her fangs, or the skull upon her back, seemed to scare others away. . . .
But Illium was harmless. Mostly. She just never often got to entertain guests for long!

H'ren lowered his head back to sniff at one of the bones so oddly placed. It was certainly not fresh. Which probably meant he didn't have to worry about any predators coming after him. It wouldn't have surprised him in woods that were like these ones. It had an eeriness about it. But to the stallion, that just made things all the more intriguing. And much more curious. No wonder he had been drawn to this area! Now, if his mother had been this way... the stallion sighed.
He loved his mother, truly he did. But she was too cautious. Questioning everything. H'ren didn't understand why. She was such a caring individual and had a good heart to her. He kept hoping that, one day, she would tell him about her past. For that's what he suspected had shaped her into the harpy she now was.
Lost in his own thoughts, he was startled slightly by the voice that spoke. Head snapping up, he turned until he spotted a mare. And a glowing skull? The stallion blinked, and then stepped back a couple paces to take in the sight before him. She was dark in color, able to move through the shadows with ease he imagined. But the skull was what really drew his interest. Was she the one responsible for this... artwork of bones displayed?
"Ah, forgive my startled reaction, fair lady." He apologized sincerely. "I was not aware I had company. The evening is indeed good now." H'ren smiled as warmly as her low words. "I hope I'm not intruding! I just stumbled upon this strange yet alluring display. I was attempting to make sense of it." He gracefully indicated the bones with a nod of his head.
"It is a pleasure to run into someone this evening. I am H'ren." Her looks did not scare him away. Not at all. They made him curious as to who she was. His mother had raised him well, he thought with a small quirk to his lips. Besides, he really wanted to know about what he'd discovered! Uta o/ I tagged a thing! LOL we are awesome ;D
