“Long time no see,” Sessrumnir greeted lazily as the aura of the Saturn knight approached. While he did not know this knight very well, he did remember that he thought the kid had potential all those years ago. Had it really been years? But perhaps not as long ago as his memories made it.

These days Sessrumnir usually liked keeping to himself. Fighting off youma was one thing, but getting involved with others was something he tried to avoid. Too many risks. Too much liability. It was bad enough that he had to worry about his family being involved, but if he started getting close to others then he probably would never sleep. He figured history was always doomed to repeat itself, but this time he would be smarter and less involved.

Rooftops were a typical place to meet others, and while he was trying to catch a glimpse of a youma he thought he felt close by, meeting up with an ally was okay as well. “Aren’t your parents going to be worried if they find you out of bed?”

Funny how wrong he was about the potential - it showed, after all Mont Blonc was still in the beginning stages of knighthood, even after so much time had passed. But details, details. The Saturn page approached with a slight bob of his head, some (not all) of his usual shyness gone since it was someone he at least knew, even if he didn't know him well.

He was trying though, again and again trying to see where he fit best in the scope of knights and his team. Sessrumnir was not a Saturn knight, no, but even if he lacked the usual pull he felt towards his own, it was still as good a chance as any to get out there and see what was left to try. What he could do differently. How he could be of help, somehow, someway.

"A pleasure to see you again, " and although he didn't stutter, his voice was still soft as he said it, and his gaze still dropped as he tilted his head politely to the knight. Then, he smiled faintly. "Well, my parents are in France, so... w-what they don't know won't hurt them, right?" God that was a lame counter line, wasn't it? Why wasn't he ever any good at comebacks? Everyone else around him was so damned witty!

Sessrumnir was surprised that he withheld a snort at the thought of it being a pleasure to meet him again. Mont Blonc was obviously being polite and Sessrumnir didn’t want to insult him if he could help it, and if the other didn’t warrant it. The small stutter had him pausing for a moment, but he didn’t have any reaction other than that.

“Is that where you’ve been?” he wondered, glancing back towards the alley. He couldn’t sense anything just yet, but he still wanted to be prepared. “Why did you decide to return to this… lovely city?” It was just a question, and one he was curious to hear the answer to. Sessrumnir had his own answers as to why he stayed in Destiny City instead of leaving for anywhere else in the world. Being a knight probably saved his life, but that was another story for another day.

“Come to fight the pointless war of magic and monsters, huh?” he prodded, turning to frown at the other, his blue eyes shifting from inviting to icy. “Do you think you’ll be able to make a difference?” Perhaps if he could dissuade Mont Blonc… if the other had any ounce of doubt… maybe he would leave and it would save him from getting killed.

Of course he was being polite; the only time Mont Blonc would ever not be polite is if he had a damned good reason not to be, and even then -

"Yes, " because there was really nothing dangerous in the admission. Mont Blonc's lips pressed in a thin line, although he smiled faintly regardless. "Well, I - I thought I was being drawn back with threats of madness or something after I had this rather vivid dream of a future that never happened, but - apparently I wasn't the only one." Still strangely comforting, in spite of it all; he wasn't crazy, and in the world as he knew it, it seemed less and less like a possibility.

The iciness in the knight's eyes was not lost on him, and Mont Blonc retreated back a step or two by instinct - no, he was not bold. No, he was not strong. "N-no. Not in the slightest." And he didn't really know why he answered so honestly, because he hadn't really voiced it to his team - his friends - his girlfriend. He burdened them enough as it was.

But his talk with Glitnir came to mind, and even if he still didn't know what use he was to the people that mattered the most, "I haven't stopped trying, though - a-and I won't - I have more reason to be here than ever." That much, at least, he could say with resolve in his voice.

('Hello to you too Sessrumnir, how have you been?' - was that beyond the realm of possibility?)

”Trying is pointless when you can’t do anything,” Sessrumnir said with a shrug. “Instead, you’re just putting yourself in danger, causing those you’re fighting for to worry. Have you even learned any self defense? Do you know fighting basics? Have you even bothered trying? Do you know what your magic can really do?” he offered, although his voice took on something of a bored quality.

This kid was going to get himself killed, and if Sessrumnir could somehow dissuade him in his attempt to be another body on the battlefield, well, he would do what he could. Unfortunately, most of these people were stubborn and didn’t realize how much they were just getting in the way.

“What would happen if someone you cared about died? Or all the people you fought for died? Let that nightmare you witnessed come true? What would you do if you lost everything you could possibly think to fight for… would you be a soldier then?” The words came out of his mouth, but Sessrumnir tried not to focus on them, himself. This wasn’t about him, after all. It was about Mont Blonc.

“You’re better off just going home to your parents.”

He's so mean. I'm so sorry. QQ

Mont Blonc visibly flinched, like the words hurt him... and that's because they did. Because they captured every feeling and doubt he'd ever had about his capabilities as a page.

That didn't mean that he was going to buckle under the pressure, though. If anything, he stood a little taller than before, a slightly pained look in his eyes and a frown on his face. "With all due respect, Sessrumnir - you've got no place telling me what I'd be better off doing." His voice trailed off a little more quietly at the end when he said it, but he meant it no less.

"This is the first we've spoken in a long while. You've no idea what I came from, what I've done, or what I will continue to do. - and you speak as though dipping my head back beneath the sand would be easier, if I didn't try and those people I loved still died when I could have done something. So, again, while I appreciate your intent - " Mont Blonc drew in a deep, short breath. "Unless you've advice to help me better myself as a page, I'd rather not hear it, if that's alright by you."

Sessrumnir continued to look down his nose with icy eyes at the younger knight, watching as he flinched and then straightened up and said his piece. Naive, all of them. They knew so little of the world, of what war was, of what loss was, of what sacrificing yourself for others was.

And yet, could they really be faulted? He knew the dangers of the war, how he would rather take on a hundred Negaverse agents than watch as people like Mont Blonc, young people with lives ahead of them that they could have a chance to live, ran in head first and died or were corrupted.

Still, after a long moment of silence, Sessrumnir turned from Mont Blonc to peer down the alley to make sure he didn’t sense the youma he was pretty sure was hanging around.

“My advice is to punch someone like me in the face, instead of letting them go on and tell you you’re worthless,” he offered, the tone of his voice was the only indication that any ice was melting. He glanced up once more to point out one very sure thing:

“You didn’t stutter that time.”

He let out a sigh and shook his head. “It was worth a shot, at least.” It was obvious that Mont Blonc made up his mind already.

Mont Blonc looked at him with a hint of surprise visible in his yellow eyes - but shock quickly gave way to subdued warmth as he looked down, a smile on his face. Not a happy smile, exactly; just a smile. "Again, I appreciate your advice - but you are failing to take my situation into account, " he said quietly, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "I don't punch allies for trying to help me - or for being honest. I wish more people would be."

He knew he was worthless, at least as far as being a knight went. No matter how many times his friends reassured him, as much as he loved and appreciated them for it - it was hard to deny how utterly useless Mont Blonc was as a knight. But he would not relent. He would not simply fold and go back to what he had been. It just wasn't an option for him anymore. "I apologize, too, if I came off as harsh, " because of course he did. He just wanted to be understood, no more questions asked.

He hadn't stuttered, had he? - his smile warmed at the thought. "To make it up to you, I could help you dispose of this youma?" he offered, in a way he hoped sounded helpful or appealing.

Sessrumnir snorted softly and shook his head when Mont Blonc said he wished more people were honest with him, doubting that he really meant it, but it was a nice thought. No one really wanted someone to be brutally honest. It hurt too much. But who knew; maybe this kid was different. Or just a masochist.

"Oh please," he snorted again at the apology, not thinking it was at all necessary. He could keep going if he wanted. He could continue to talk down to the other knight until he was ready to quit and go home, or at least stomp off, not wanting to continue the pointless confrontation, but Sessrumnir figured he had done enough for the night.

As for taking care of the youma... that was another story, and he turned with a small wink at Mont Blonc. "Just don't hold me back," he warned, but even though his expression was still somewhat harsh, the ice in his eyes had melted. After all, it wasn't that he didn't want the help... he just wanted to make sure everyone else realized what they were getting themselves into.
