[Quest 3] [The Sand Whale] [Uru & Brenna]

A sand whale has been spotted nearing the village sand harbour!. These creatures are extremely unfriendly and have been known to swallow entire buildings. Ring the gong, fire bombs, throw ballistas, do what you can to stop the sand whale!

- The sand whale has 200/200 HP. When it hits 150 HP it will leave and swim away.

- At the start of the battle roll 1d6. This is the amount of ballista shots your character gets. Every time you use a ballista shot, you do a perfect 10 HP damage.

- The sand whale does an automatic -1 damage to you every time you attack the sand whale.

gaia_smilies/icon_star.gif If you thwart the sand whale it drops a whale fin, it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list

"Some vacation spot, you picked this time!" Uru shouted as he stood against the overlook, watching as a large sand whale float menacingly around the harbor. If he had recalled his readings, these creatures were not exactly the most friendly of creatures. Given the size, this one could swallow up entire areas of the village if it chose. Luckily, it found solace in floating around the harbor as oppose to attacking.

"Well, this is but some excitement to our trip! Imagine, you can go back and tell your boil toy about it." Brenna teased before being pushed hard away from the overlook.

"Damien is not my 'boil toy'! He's my boilfriend and you know it!"

"Yeah, but does he?" The red that creeped across the demon's face was enough to make the ghoul laugh. "Alright, alright, what do we do about this thing?"

Uru paused for a moment as he glanced around. Nearby was a large ballista and a bunch of other objects set up for this sort of occasion. At least, he had assumed it was for this reason. Sand Whales attacked harbors... this village had a harbor. They had a defense for it. It made sense.

They had devied up the tasks. Uru was stronger, lifting and loading the ballista was a simple task. Viewing it as another form of working out, he had very little issue of lifting the heavy bolts into the mechanism as Brenna manned the helm. She had a lot better aim and more of a distance offender than a up-close-and-personal such as the brother.

"You got it?" Uru inquired, a shaft nestled between his shoulder and his head, looking intently at the circling creature.

"I got it, just..." A loud twang rung out as the bolt sailed through the air. The following cry of the creature was monstrous as it thrashed in the harbor, ramming itself against the side of the cliff. The pair of demons joustled as they held onto the ballista.

"You're gonna miss if you keep shaking like that!" Uru shouted over the sand whale's cries as it thrashed about in the harbor below, loading another bolt into the mechanism. "If you keep hitting it, it'll go away!"

"I wouldn't be shaking so much if it wasn't thrashing into our cliff! How about you go down there and freeze the harbor? Then I can get all the clear shots!"

"BULLSEYE!" Brenna shouted as she threw her fist triumphantly into the air before being thrown back into her seat as the Sand Whale attacked their post again. It attacked with more fervor as it realized the location of its assailant. "Alright, if you want to play it that way... Uru, load another, I'm aiming for its head this time!"

"What have you been aiming for!?"

Uru threw on bolts after bolts, Brenna aimed and fired as fast as she could without sacrificing precision. They gave their battlecries as they hoisted the heavy beams or pulled back on the lever to let the pointy things go. They cheered briefly when the beast was struck, but they were determined to scare it off. Or, if the situation arises, kill it.

The last bolt caught in the rig. Uru scrambled to his sister as she tried to wedge herself into the mechanism to undo the jamming. Frantic cries of care carried over the whale's wail. The chaos of noise and panic filled the air until the final thwang of the ballista echoed out as if silencing everything. For moments it was silent until the whale gave another cry. A splash and another silence. The whale had fled.
